144.0. "1974 Topps set question" by ACESMK::FRANCUS (Mets in '90) Tue May 29 1990 17:42

Quick query. When my parents moved they found the set of
1974 cards that I had been looking for for years. It is
a complete Topps set for 1974 (1973 season).

I have absolutely no interest in selling any part of it but was
curious if there were any cards from that year that are of any
value. I assume most of those cards are not worth a whole lot.

    Thanks for the help.

Beckett's has the complete set of 1974 TOPPS listed at
            $300-$450, depending on condition.

            Card #456 - Dave Winfield RC $28 - $40
            Card #20 - Nolan Ryan $16 - $28
            Card #10 - Johnny Bench $7 - $12

If you don't want them, I'll buy the following cards for
            Beckett's list price:

            # 206 Jim Palmer/T.Seaver $2.50
            # 207 Nolan Ryan/T.Seaver $3.00

Also, I just noticed that there is a Mike Schmidt # 283
            $50-90.00

Sports Collectors Digest lists a slightly lower range of $200-$400.

    There's also a $10 Reggie Jackson in there, a $25 Dave Parker
    (rookie?), McCovey, Yaz, etc.

This set is also of interest because it was the first set that Topps
released all at once rather than in series. Plus it contained (sort of)
a traded set. There is also an associated set of team checklists with
facsimile autographs, which may or may not be an official part of the
    set.

    Parker is a rookie.

It does have a traded set as well.

There was a good article in SCD about 1 - 2 months ago. It said
that they thought it was a sleeper because it is loaded with many
Hall of Fame cards. I collected heavily (paper route $) that year and
having opened about 3 sets of commons the hardest card to find was the
actual AAron card #1. I believe it was #1 so good condition may be
    harder to find yet.
