96.2They changed thier strategyRAYBOK::DAMIANOWed Feb 14 1990 14:2713
    John,

    I too have been seeing Fleer everywhere from grocery stores to gas
    stations. Last year I entered a note about how Fleer was going to re-
    do thier distribution so that Fleer cards would be more readily avail-
    able. They're trying to grab a bigger market share (you know, saturate
    the market like Donruss and Topps). Up until last year, it was hard for
    the small stores to get cards, so Fleer was relatively hard to find.
    Now, the new guy in charge has adopted a Topps-like approach to getting
    the cards to the market trying to get them distributed everywhere and
    grabbing some visibility.

96.4By the way , I like their designWHELIN::DIFONZOWed Feb 14 1990 15:095
    SCD had an interview with the new guy at Fleer ( whatever his name is)
    and he said that Fleer would make the cards more available this year
    but not oversaturate the market, whatever that means.

    John

    It means, they will put out only 1 billion sets, 5Million waxes, and
    50thousand variation cards. The dealers will ease them sloooowly, not
    to effect the price to much.

    ALRIGHT, finally a complement on a 90' set of cards. I do not usually
    buy fleer, but I am starting too!
     This is the greatest hobby in the world!

    cards in and they were going for $12.98 a box (36 ct),I picked up
    3 boxes and lucked out with alot of great cards,anyone interested
    better get up there,the guy told me that they sold over 400 boxes

96.9Loss Leaders.AKOV12::GASPARONIMon Mar 05 1990 16:5310
    These stores have to be selling these BB cards at a loss! In marketing
    terms, the BB cards are a LOSS Leader, to bring customers in the store
    for the hope to sell them something else. And Fleer Packs use to
    be hard to find, now, go to your local furniture store, or BJ's
    Wholesale Warehouse, and buy a case or two. The Dealers must be
    pulling out their hair? How can they compete with the likes of these
    giant marketeers?? And Fleer use to sell only to hobby stores or
    dealers, now, there everywhere, EXXON gas stations even has them.
    The new owners must be trying to increase market share, and what better
    way than through these outlets.
96.11Osco'sUSWAV1::VINTONTue Mar 06 1990 14:185
    I recently bought Fleer Wax Boxes at Osco's for $12.00. They said they
    will repeat this sale several times through out the year. They also
    had Donruss, Topps and Score at the same price.

96.131990 fleer new series?EVETPU::MCEVOYMon Jun 18 1990 16:578

    I bought a pack of 1990 fleer cards the other day that looked
    completely different than some earlier 1990 fleers that I had
    bought.

    Did they redesign the cards for a second series? or am I seeing things?

	I purchased several 1990 Fleer Baseball Cello packs over the
	weekend and made a discovery.... I got a 'Soaring Star' card
	inside one of the packs. Has anyone collected all 12 of these
	or bought these cards at any shows... It was the first time
	I've every see or heard of them

	I wanted to pickup a set, but was unaware of a good price.. Now
