I used to think 1990 Topps were ugly and cheap looking, until I
saw the 1990 Donruss. Looks like somebody's idea of a joke to me.
I give them my vote for "ugliest card of the year". Of course, I
haven't seen Fleer or Upper Deck, but if they're even uglier this
is going to be a lean year. I'm sticking to cards from yesteryear
    from now on.

Donruss' first issue those in cases numbered under M9348 have over
thirty errors which have now been corrected by Donruss.

Number 10 DR Kingg has a reverse photo of a player in mininature
on the front, Angels and #5 are backwards

Number 33 Juan Gonzalez, photo on front is reversed

Checklist card number 700 left off card number 716 on back,
    Ex-commissioners card

All of the All Star cards state on the back "Recent Majoe League
Performance" , should read "Recent All Star Performance "

Nolan Ryan Donruss King has the MVP back and the MVP has the DR
    King back

I hear that the Ryans are selling for $30 and up, the AllStars for
$3 each, Gonzalez for $15-20 and boxes for $65 ea.

Has anyone seen these ? If so what are they selling for ?

I bought a box of "error" Donruss at Double Play Cards in Lowell,
MA for $16 last week. I went back yesterday and he had raised the
price to $20 because of the errors.

>> Donruss' first issue (those in cases numbered under M9348) have over

Someone explained to me that cases marked M9301 thru M9340 contain
all error cards. However, cases marked M9341 thru M9347 have a mix
of error cards and corrected cards. Be careful if buying error
    boxes.

>> Number 10 DR Kingg has a reverse photo of a player in mininature

Diamond King #10 is of Brian Downing of the Angels. The complete
negetive is reversed, not just the miniature pose.

I've gone to two card shows since the '90 Donruss cards have been
out. Every dealer at these shows had Donruss material in huge
quantities. They are all asking the rediculous prices you mentioned
but I don't know if they sell them for those prices. Most of them
    should be willing to haggle...

I heard that Rotman's was selling error boxes for $17. Check 'um
    out...

I went to a show in Manchester ,Connecticut this past Sunday, where
error boxes were selling for $17-29 ea. I saw Ryan pairs for $27
    and All Stars for $3.

Some dealers are telling people that the boxes wrapped in cellophane
do not have errors, this is false.

My last note header really was scrambled, as my system took same
kind of a hit. It should have read "Show Feedback".

I am going to a show in West Haven,Ct. this weekend, I'll see what
    the prices are there.

I think that as these cards become scarce, that the prices will
    rise.

I have tried every store you can think of,and I just can't find any
Donruss wax packs.Well,my wife and I went shopping yesterday at B.J's
in Salem N.H.,and they just got done putting them on the floor, and the
people were scoffing them up as if they were giving them away for free.
They were selling them for $12.98 a box,and there are 36 packs per.I
talked to a couple of people that have there own Variety Stores, and
they said it was almost impossible to get them from their
Distributors, one guy purchased 40 boxes. If you want them you better
get up there before there gone.I bought 4 boxes and came up with some
    real good cards...................... John

Bart Giamatti card number 716 is hard to find, dealers are now up
to $10 each for this card.

The Baines All Star error is going for $30+ at the shows out West.
This is the error with a black line thru the star.

I also picked up 3 boxes of wax packs at B J's in Westboro. The
Bart Giamini card and the Ryan error cards were in the boxes. One
Bart, one Ryan with the DK front and two Ryan 5000K's cards. Looks
like I did O.K. One of the price guides lists the Ryan errors
@ $25.00 and the way he is going, the price can only go up.

95.19All Error Cards Will Self-Destruct!!AKOV12::GASPARONITue Feb 13 1990 18:5427
I agree about what you and John have said about the error cards, ITS A
BIG FAD!! But it sure is nice to open a wax pack and find a card
everyone says is an error card worth $25 bucks. And it sure is fun to
see all these collectors at card shows running around trying to find
the cheapist box of error cards, so they can all run home, and spend
the rest of the day opening waxes to find error cards. If these so
called collectors are that stupid to be paying money for cards of
NOBODYS, to collect a bunch of error cards, variations, or what ever
the card companies call them, I feel very sorry for these so called
Baseball Card Collectors, because in 30 years, after collecting all
those dam error cards, their kids someday are going to ask why would
anyone want to collect error cards of players holding the bat in the
wrong hand, or a shortstop that fields with a glove on his right hand,
or a Nolan Ryan card, with Tom Boltons stats on it, or a ball player
with no logo on his hat? It won't make much sense in 30 years, beleive
me. People should be collecting because they have a favorite player,
or like a special team, or are collecting for the memories of when they
saw this ball player play. I'm sure glad they never screwed up any of
my Mickey Mantle cards, because I sure don't want people putting his
card in with a bunch of error cards. This is the biggist gimick since the
oil crisis, when we all had to wait in line to buy gas, because there
was a supposedly shortage of oil in the world. There was no shortage
then, and it doesn't appear to be a shortage of error cards now.
Dealers won't buy them, unless you buy a pack of cards for .50, then
they will take the card from you, their are millions of them, and by
the way, "Mr. Mint" will not buy or sell Error Cards, he has stated it
in public, so investors be where!!
95.20RAINBO::COOPERMANWed Feb 14 1990 13:4720
    Re .19

Error cards and variations ARE valuable to collectors who are
interested in them, whether they're old-time collectors of material 30
years and older, or new collectors interested in Nolan Ryan wrong-back
cards. And it doesn't make sense to be contemptuous of any "segment"
of the memorabilia collecting population, since your coveted Mickey
Mantle cards would be worthless if people didn't want them. Demand is
what this hobby is all about.

Some "variations" that people do collect include a few 1959 cards of
players who were traded or optioned after the season started. The
common card contains a line that says "Optioned..." or whatever. The
variation does not have the legend. The cards are currently valued at
$80 in NM condition, where the more common cards with the legend are
    $2.50.

    Enjoy whatever you collect.

95.23That's not quite what I meantRAINBO::COOPERMANWed Feb 14 1990 16:2126
Roy and John (and probably just about everybody else who reads this
conference), I agree that the recent error-mania is ridiculous and that
card companies that issue errors and are able to correct them so
quickly certainly seem to have planned them.

What I was commenting on was the comment that in 30 years these cards
will be worthless and that our kids will wonder what we ever saw of
value in them. Historically, this is unlikely, tho the current prices
may be way out of line. In fact, short weeks (maybe months) later, the
89 Ripken FF card dropped substantially from the $100 people were
    paying for it.

Another point - any comments about the 1989 Upper Deck "mania"?
Weren't prices for packs, boxes, sets ridiculous? And how many
collectors who think collecting errors is silly bought these sets at
near $100? Want to buy a baseball autographed by Johnny Carson? You
can, you know. Maybe Tony would like one if we all chipped in (insert
    smiley face here).

I have no 1990 cards, thinking that they're all overproduced (anyone
want to buy any of my 1988 Score sets?) so (thankfully) have resisted
the "feeding frenzy" we've all seen about these error cards.

    It certainly makes one wonder.

95.24Enough of this! Lets talk cards!HPSTEK::SCHWARTZThu Feb 15 1990 11:1124
I would like to say something about the error cards. It gives the
kids a thrill, so leave them alone! With what this hobby is becoming,
it is about all that is left to them. They are the future and w/o
them this hobby is doomed to die a slow death. Sure there are a few
good cards to go after, but what then? Do many ever have the chance
to own a Mantle or Williams? Not likely! Not with the overinflated
    prices that these cards bring.
If you want to gripe about something, go after the shop owner or show
seller, He laughs at you every day on his way to the bank! He is the
one who helped set the price on these error cards in the first place.
He does very little for the hobby. He pays you low prices for your
cards and turns around and sells them to someone else for an above
book price. The one at Hudmar in Marlboro gets my goat the most. He
laughs at you right to your face! The one in Concord thinks that
everybody is rich or stupid. I haven't figured out which yet.
I think overall that what has gone wrong with this hobby the most
is that you no longer trade cards... You trade bankrolls! Even the
kids are doing it now. No longer is it... "I can get xxx No. of
cards for this one!" ...... Now it's...."Wow this guy's worth xxx Bucks!"
But to get back to the main topic. Let the kids alone.. they are no
threat to your collections! they are your future and if some marketing
guy at Donrus is smart enough to see that and they throw some errors
at the kids....so what? The kids didn't put a price tag on them. The
shop owners did! The adults did!

summing up what has been said here and in other notes in general. Must

    they are talking about you.

    Hey, everyone stay kool!
I think what I was at least trying to say, was that there are more
error cards being printed out there than straight ones. Maybe, the
card companies and the dealers will correct this,(self-correcting), as
more error cards get printed, the straight cards,(no errors) will
eventually become the expensive, more desirable cards, and we'll all
be back where we started from, (Pre B. Ripkin). The greedy little
card dealers and card companies will eventually kill the golden goose,
that layed these golden eggs, (Error CArds). Its a funny thing, I
never really heard much about error cards before the B. Ripkin card,
yes, I knew they were there, but the P.R. was not like it is NOW. I
wonder why? MONEY, THE ALMIGHTY GREEEEN!

Anybody have an idea of the current value of the double-error
on the Harold Baines All-star card. It's the card that has "Recent
Major League Performance" on the back and the black line running
through the star on the front. I have one and am trying to trade
for another with my 9 year old son. :-) He's being a tough trader. ;-)
Anyway my goal is to get his and trade it for an 87 Fleer Bo Jackson

The most recent Beckett's has them as the following:

    A) A black line crosses the yellow star on the front of the card
and the back has the title "Recent Major League Performance"
        above the stats......lo = 3.00 hi = 8.00

    B) A black line crosses the yellow star, and the back has "All-Star
        Game Performance" above stats.......lo = 6.00 hi = 16.00

    C) The black line goes behind the yellow star on the front, but the
back still has the incorrect title "Recent Major League Perfor-
        mance"......lo = 6.00  hi = 16.00

    D) The black line does not cross the yellow star, and the correct
title "All-Star Game Performance" appears on the back........
        lo = .05  hi = .15

    Hope this helps. pat.

OK, I went and bought a pack of DR cards, opened them up, and got a

with it. Does this mean that the card is worthless, because nothing is
wrong with it. Pretty soon, gum stained cards, and creases will make
a card worth more if there in the right place. I was sooooooo
