78.0. "Chef Boy-Ar-Dee Sheet(s)" by SMURF::BREAU (to be a rock and not to rooolllllllllll) Thu Jul 20 1989 16:14

Can anybody tell me what how much an uncut 1988 Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee sheet
    is worth? -Jim

I saw it listed in one of SCD's "sets of '88" lists for $25 in
Mint (... but you'd be lucky to get $10). I had a couple of sheets,
but I traded 'em away toward a Mantle card. They didn't do such
a great job on the photos (out of focus/blurry), no team emblems,
etc. My wife saves proofs-of-purchases from everything, and sends
away for alot of that free sh_t.

    Re: .3

Yeah, I got the Nabisco/Ritz Mattingly uncut sheet. Like the Chef-Boy,
it does not have the Yankee logo, but the photo quality is a little
better. It is 11"x14" and consists of a Mattingly little league card,
minor league card, and a MLB card for each year through 1989. Each of
those cards has statistical info. about that year (except of course for
'89, which just says he'll probably have another good one). At the bottom
center of the sheet is a large 5" x 7" Mattingly card. The back of it
contains stats for *all* of his MLB career.

The funny thing about the little league card is that it contains the
same biographical info as the minor league and MLB cards - height,
weight, etc. I thought it would be funny if they listed height 5'5"
and 120 lbs. for his little league card, but they didn't.

Unlike the Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee perforated sheet, the Nabisco/Ritz Mattingly
contains no perforations to help you separate the individual cards.
Consequently, 5 or 10 years from now, it will be much more difficult to
find uncut Chef-Boy sheets than it will be to find the Mattingly
sheets. However, Mattingly's popularity in the media capital of the
world will probably mean that the Nabisco/Ritz superstar Mattingly sheet
will be worth more to the collector. It's the kind of thing that a
half-million New York kids would love to frame and hang on the wall.

Does anybody have an idea as to how much the Mattingly sheet is worth
    now? - Jim

78.3Stick that air brush in their ear!WLDWST::DRAKEWed Aug 02 1989 16:567
I would like to know if GREED on the team owners part, is responsible
for the logos getting air brushed out of the pictures? I have gotten
a beef jerky card, Captain Crunch and Pepsi cards all with the players
hat taken worked over. What is the problem here? The old Kellogs
    cards aways had un-censored pictures!

After looking at the quality of the cards, they are really a joke.
The stock is so thin I would not even use it for a coaster, I dont
want my tables getting rings! And I'm not collecting anymore cards
that dont have all of the CORRECT graphics a NICE card should have.
On top of that, I can't justify buying a minimum of 11 boxes of
Captain Crunch to get a complete set of cards! Don't get me wrong,
I like CC, but I'd barf after about 4 boxes! 8^o

    re: generic baseball cards.

Also check out your kids Cap'n Crunch cereal. They are putting
generics in the box. The cereal is bad but I think the cards are
    worse.
