54.0. "1988 Donruss Baseball's Best" by PNO::KAPLAN (subtlety..SUBTLETY..<<S U B T L E T Y>>) Tue Nov 29 1988 18:53

I have just seen a "limited edition" 1988 Donruss card set at our
local Walgreen's (a nationwide drug chain) here in Phoenix. The
set consists of about 360 cards in the '88 format, but these are
supposedly all glossy, and consist only of stars and semi-stars.
Instead of the blue border, these cards have an orange border.
According to the display, all players are on their correct teams,
meaning, I suppose, that early '88 trades have been taken into account.
The set is selling for $20. It appears to be moving slowly, but
there weren't that many in the display in the first place. Just
thought you collectors might have an interest.

    RE: .-1

I haven't purchased this set yet but I heard it was offered at
the Walgreen's store in Marlboro 3-4 weeks ago for about $18 - $20.
I haven't had a chance to check them out yet; don't know if they
have any left. Some people like the set with the orange/pumpkin
borders; others don't care for it. I don't know if they will go
off like the "Opening Day" sets did last year, which in my opinion
were useless (a complete waste.... Who wants a card of Bob Stanley
as the starting pitcher for the Sox???, not me).

I did see this set offered at AOK Baseball Cards about a week
ago. His price was about $28.

Anybody interested in checking the local Walgreen's store
(Marlboro, Framingham, etc) to see if they have anymore in stock???

    Dan

I stopped by Walgreens (Marlboro, Mass) on the way to a meeting
yesterday. They have a S**T load of them in the cheap toy isle for
    $22.99 each.

Also for you Fleer fans - A bin of the 33-card 'whatever' set for
    $1 each.

    Roy,

The Fleer where 88's. Those 33 card special sets they come out with.

You should have grabbed that guys name who was buying those 89's
and 'enlightened' him to reality. NO WAY will I pay $3.50 to be
the first guy on the block with a .40c waxpack.

Was this dealer inside or outside? The guy 'Buzz' on the inside/right/
rear of the flea market also has a shop on West Boyalston st past
    McDonalds(same side).
