    Tony,
From what I've seen at shows, magazines etc, here is a rough
    guess:

    			1982 Topps baseball $60
			1983 Topps baseball $60
			1984 Topps baseball $60-$80
			1985 Topps baseball $90
			1988 Fleer baseball $25
			1988 Donruss baseball $15

Yup, 36 to a box , has it always been 15 to a pack or was it 17
at one time? Also some bad news to pass along , football and hockey
wax packs have gone up to $ .45 for a pack of 15. I assume that
next years baseball cards will go up also.

Try looking in Baseball Hobby News for pricing guidelines. They
run a section every month on unopened wax packs and boxes listing
the "going price"-- whatever that means. Dealers I've seen around
here (Dallas) have varying prices and that pricing depends pretty
much on what they had to pay.

News. From >>> to >>> are my comments. After I read this I should

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can anybody out there tell me what a fair "going price" is for the
following unopened wax boxes:

>>> Tony, here's the "going prices" from the latest BHN

			1982 Topps baseball 48.25
			1983 Topps baseball 62.50
			1984 Topps baseball 55.50
			1985 Topps baseball 84.50
			1988 Fleer baseball 25.75
			1988 Donruss baseball 14.50

>> Dealers around here have been hard pressed to sell Donruss at 14.50 per box
when most people can get them for 10-12 dolllars a box. They are also pressed
on Fleer but area able to get around 21 a box however, I expect to see that price
rise since there has been no Fleer in the grocery stores for several months.>>>

I'm trying to finish off a trade deal with somebody who's looking for
unopened boxes of cards. I don't deal in any of that stuff and I have no idea
what they go for. Your help would be greatly appreciated .... Thanks !

What's the advantage of holding onto a unopened package? I don't
follow the reasoning. For example, I bought one of the large
Donruss rack packs over the weekend because it had Saberhagen
and Greg Vaughn on top. Any reason why I shouldn't open it?
What kind of markup would I anticipate?

    Walt,

The longer you hold to something the less there is in the
market. In ten years, how many 1990 Donruss raks will have
survived? This is something strictly for investment.
A collector would not look at something that way. :*)

I opened it, found an Anthony, Canseco, W. Clark, etc.. inside...
I don't need to wait 10 years for those... I get some with bums
on the front for that...ha ha...

51.11You can ALWAYS open them...CLOVE::JACUNSKIWed Apr 18 1990 20:2310
The unopened packs with players visble seem to sell to collectors of a
particular player rather than investors, and the price is usually the
going price for that rack or cello plus approx. 3 times the going price
of the star or rookie showing. Less if the back of the desired card is
    showing.

I've got an 85 Topps rack with Mattingly showing face up, but on the
BACK of the pack. How do you figure a value for that one?

51.12Multiple Stars Showing ???USWAV1::VINTONWed Apr 18 1990 21:184
What about multiple stars showing ? I have an 87 topps with Canseco
and Greenwell rookies on the front and Mattingly on the back. I'd guess
as a collectable there aren't alot of these around.

How can you stand to look at an unopened box or waxpack and not get the
    shakes or chills.

Besides, by the time I get home from work my wife and kids have an
empty card box on the floor, on the other side of the room is a pile
of empty wrappers, and in the middle of the room are hundreds of cards
    that are being sorted out.

How can you not get the shakes and shivers when looking at unopened
    boxes and waxpacks?

Besides by the time that I get home from work my wife and kids are busy
at work in the family room with an empty card box on the floor and a
stack of empty wrappers and a pile of a couple of hundred cards on the
    floor waiting to be sorted.
