46.0. "Mr. Mint; Sports Illustrated Article+" by REMACP::RICHARDSON () Fri Jul 01 1988 15:43

    For anyone interested out there, there is an article in the July/4
    issue of Sports Illustrated about Alan Rosen, alias "Mr Mint".
    Just a little bit about his start in cards and the "52' TOPPS
    MINT FIND" of 1986. This is one speculator who hit it at the right
    time (10 years ago..) and kept hitting it.. And you know his
    specialty?? OLD CARDS... (hmmm, must be something about those old
    cards being established in value...)

    	I met some people this weekend, dealers not collectors, who
    said that they have tried to deal with Mr. Mint on occasion and
    were in for a rude awakening. They said that he doesn't really offer
    the kind of money that was quoted in SI, and gets REAL picky about
    conditions and is very beligerant. I guess with the kind of money
    that, you get to call your shots. At any rate, he didn't get to
    where he is now without knowing the business!!! I wish I had
    some of his money and cards though.
    	See you Wednesday JR.

    	WHEW....I haven't seen this article but it sounds like this
    guy qualifies for the "scum of the Earth" award according to what
    I read here. Would anyone be willing to send me a photocopy of
    the article ? I can't get SI in Ireland and by the time I get home
    for my vacation it will be gone from all the stores.

    	By the way, my two cents worth on the short-term "investors"
    buying/reselling to fund their "habit" is ...... It's OK by me as
    long as no one is out to screw the other guy along the way.

46.4Mr. Mint is #1AKOV12::GASPARONIFri Feb 16 1990 16:1911
    I've spoken to Mr. Mint, and the guy is genuine, a real nice guy. He
    is very knowledgable about the card business, and can just about quote
    any card right out of the book. He also has a personnel collection
    which suppose to be quite nice. He is very pickey about the cards
    conditions, because thats what its all about in his business, selling
    top condition cards for top prices. If you have a Gem Mint card, he
    will give you top price, believe me, or he would not have the
    reputation he has in the business. He is #1 in the business, he has
    turned over $27Million in cards in only 11 years in the business.
    Somebody has to be buying from him.

    Not only is he into autographs but he is also into selling watches, as
    Roy and I witnessed in New Jersey.

    He struck me as a "car salesman" type of dealer. I stood around and
    watched him for awhile. I happened to see somebody walk into the show
    carrying a small paper bag and immediately Mr Mints hollers loudly:
    "Are you interested in selling some cards today, sir". The poor guy
    was about 15-20 feet away from him at the time. He doesn't miss a
    trick. I suppose that is how he keeps his reputation but I think
    he has the personality of a jerk.

    I think Mr. Mint should specialize in selling one type of card.

    I can see it now......Mr Kahn's Wiener

46.12The Famous Mr. Mint!!AKOV12::GASPARONIWed Mar 14 1990 15:106
    Sounds like you guys may be jealous?? Everything you said is exactly
    what a dealer should be doing at a card show. Hawking his stuff. He buys
    what ever he can, and if some guy walks in and doesn't know the FAMOUS
    Mr. Mint, he may possibly walk right by his table with a box full of
    52T MM's, or pete roses. He's there to buy and sell, not stand there
    like a dead log. Give the guy a break!!
