45.0. "Treasure in your attic?" by TOLKIN::LOCKE () Mon Jun 20 1988 12:26

I got a little story here and then some questions. My cousin happened
to come across his cards in his mothers attic. Suffice to say he
was collecting when he was a kid so the cards aren't in great condition
but there not too bad. A partial list:

    65 Mantle, 68 Mantle, 69 Mantle, 68 Rookie Bench, 68 Maris's and
Yaz. 63 Musial, 63 Rookie Rose, 63 Berra, Spahn.

Now the questions. Being a shaver while collecting he made the
mistake of circling Rose on his rookie card (in Ink) it also has
a dinged corner. How much does this kill it's value? Also I believe
in 68 there was a set of 33 cards in the wax packs of a baseball
game. Can any one list these with there prices (Tony?) I want to
pick some up from him but I don't know what's fair to pay him. He
also doesn't have cards 1 and 32 but he does have 5 #2 Mantles.

He also had a bunch of 68's with which I will be rating and buying
some for my collection of 68's. Good fortune that the Sox had a
good year in 67 cause that's why he started buying in 68.

does anyone know who #'s 1 and 32 are. He doesn't have these.
Right Tony I have a 68 Mantle as well as a Bench Rookie. All
I have to do is rate the cards for him and let him know what they're
worth and he will make arrangements with me.

#1 Mateo Alou, about .75 in NM
#32 Orlando Cepeda, about $1 in NM.

They pop up in card shops that carry older stuff, I know Great
Expectations in Fitchburg has a few of these in NM (I looked at
them myself Saturday) but dont recall their #'s. Go back a few notes
(Popular Card Shops) for their address & #.

45.7Anyone need a 77 Topps set?ROYALT::ASHEBound for Moomooland...Mon Mar 02 1992 02:076
Went home this weekend and was trying to work on finishing a set or 2.
My mom says "Are those your cards up in the attic?" I (of course) said
"Uh what cards? Uh, yeah, they must be mine, where..." Go up to the
attic and sure enough in an opened, but more or less untouched box, is
a 1977 Topps set, mint except for about 5 cards. (all commons) Life
sucks sometimes, huh? (smiley goes here)...

Just got back from Canada. Spent some time with my cousin. A year ago
he found a box at work with about 5000 hockey cards in it. Well we went
through them and saw they were all O pee-chee cards. 1966-1986.
Especially nice was a 1979 Wayne Gretzky, ah only worth $750.00

Should of seen the dozen or so other premier rookies he had. I cant
believe how lucky some people are. And he doesnt even collect or know
anything about sports cards. Im really bumming :-(
