    The Gift
    
    What begins with a gaze, almost routine in nature,
       Involuntarily transforms itself into pure bliss
          As if blind eyes were blessed with sight.
    
    Nightfall upon us, the eve blends mood and spirit
       Uncovering your undivided attention and longing.
    
    The scent:  pleasantly unobtrusive and distinct
       Hangs heavy in the space between us,
          What very little there is at this point in time.
    
    In lieu of guesses and heightened expectations,
       I deliver this gift, so singular in nature,
          So pure, so symbolic, forever will this peak of emotion
             Be embedded inside.
    
    The affectionate response received, this innermost love
       Acknowledges the ever-meaningful character
          Of this one rose I hand to you.
