968.0. "ATM connection over SONET mux?" by MIPSBX::"dekkert@mail.dec.com" (ton dekker) Mon Apr 14 1997 15:03

Hi,

I'm not very familiar with ATM and therefore probably overseeing something...

Customer has two GS/FDDI which he wants to connect by means of AGL2's
over a SONET network. The SONET network consists of two muxes which
in turn are connected to each other by means of a 622 Mbps trunk.
The only setup on the AGL card at this moment is: set the PHY to SONET
instead of SDH.
However, customer does not see any communication accross the ATM link.

Any suggestions where to look and/or what else should be configured?

Ton.

...look in the AGL Reference Guide which is located at the www
pages. It has a chapter on how to properly set things up. The
    appendices also contain useful information.

    We just setup a connection of 2 GS/FDDI via AGL-2+ ports and a SDH-Mux.
The requried MIB were:	aglInterfaceSonetMode (2) = SDH- Mode
    	  			aglInterfaceSonetTiming (2) = local timing

You migth have to try either loop or local timing, depending on the
ability of the used Sonet-Mux to provide the clock or not.
(The Mux must provide a 155Mbps port for the AGL)
