916.0. "errorlog_panic/errorlog_SCPbooted" by SCASS1::BUENSUCESO () Mon Jan 27 1997 13:46

    Folks,

I'm having a similar problem as Note 473 where the switch reboots
causing cluster nodes to clue exit. I've raised the RECNXINTERVAL value
to 180 in an attempt to work around the problem. The following is taken
from the switch, can someone help me identify my problem?

Upgrade your firmware on all modules to version 3.0X now and then
    monitor the switch.

...this was fixed a long time ago. As Mike suggested in .1, upgrade
your switch to modern firmware, although I suggest BL3.1 which is now
    out.

Incidently, they are three major releases behind. Since they
haven't upgrade to BL2.2 yet, they must do that upgrade prior to
upgrading to BL3.1. They can skip the BL3.0 upgrade.

    Thanks Folks,

I have a VAX with an fddi module running 6.2-1h3 vms. I have ucx4.0
and installed DECndu. The firmware I have came from gatekeeper.dec.com
and is version 3.1. As you alrady noted, I'm running BL2.1 and the
release notes mention that I can't go straight to BL3.1 from where I'm
presently at. Can someone give me a pointer to a location on the
internet I can get that lower version, as in BL2.2?

    Thanks again,

    Thanks again,

Considering that I'm using DECndu, do I use the SCP_OP_220.SYS file
    or the SCP_OP_220.TFTP file.

use SCP_OP_220.TFTP, the other types .sys or .mop is for MOP loads.
    DECndu uses tftp.

    Folks,

I tried upgrading the firmware and it went something like this. The
following is the guideline I used during the upgrade with info embedded
    from the UCX$TFTP_STARTUP.LOG;11 file.

                    Upgrading firmware on a Gigaswitch

Configuration: VAX7810, DEMFA, VMS 6.2 or greater, UCX 4.0, DECndu
    1.0

     1. Install UCX - @sys$update:ucx$cleanup.com
                      @sys$update:vmsinstal * dka100:[ucx040.kit]
     2. Get host systems's IP address and NAME ( 128.251.20.70 decv01)
     3. Configure UCX - @sys$manager:ucx$config
                     (a) core
                     (b) interface - choose circuit, system NAME and
IP address, make sure the gigaswitch submask is
the same as this system. $ ucx show interface
                     (c) server components - enable TFTP and BOOTP
                     (d) shutdown UCX
                     (e) startup UCX
     4. $ ucx show service - look for TFTP and BOOTP
     5. $ show system - look for ucx$bootp
     6. Get vaxbinjun96 - openvms VAX software product library disk#6
    AG-PR57T-RE
     7. Install DECndu - [dcf011] is the directory that has DECndu
                     @sys$update:vmsinstal nduplus dka100:[dcf011.kit]
     8. Check to see if tcp/ip is running on the circuit you have plugged
    into the
        gigaswitch. $ anal/system show lan/full, if not rerun ucx$config
    again
     9. $ ucx show config snmp - should be public
    10. Insure all firmware files are located in mom$load:
                    clk-30.rsx
                    fg4-31.rsx
                    scp-31.ftp
                    sbb-31.ftp
                    GSSCP_22.TFT
    11. At the gigaswitch
                     (a) set IP adrs - 5.2 128.251.20.61 0.0.0.0
                             subnet mask 255.255.0.0
                     (b) show box configuration - get lowest lan address or
get it off the clock card, it will be the SA adrs.
                         read write community string password
    				"08002BB31380"
                     (c) show slot configuration
                         scp slot 4
                         flg 5
                         flg 6
                         clk 7
                     (d) show priviledged ports - make them all
                     (e) show bootserver ports - make them all
    12. $ ucx ping 128.251.20.61 - ping the switch from the vax
    13. The order of loading firmware is line cards, clock and scp
        however our problem is unique.

      $ DOWNLOAD SHOW DEVICE 128.251.20.61/FORCE=GIGDESCR/MODULE=4
    ********************************************************************************

My problem begins here. As a result of the next command
the load process hung trying to tranfer the data and this is a log
    taken for sys$sysdevice:[ucx$tftp].

As far as I know, if you use NDU+ for the firmware upgrade, you're
supposed to disable the TFTP bootserver for UCX, since NDU+ has a TFTP
    bootserver of its own.

        However, I may be wrong.
