456.0. "Will we ever see these games?" by LUDWIG::PHILLIPS (Music of the spheres.) Mon May 07 1990 19:48

What games haven't been translated to the Nintendo system yet?

There are, of course, dozens of great games out there, including
some of the "golden oldies" like Joust, Pac-Man, Gyruss, Defender
and Millipede. However, there are some games that are pretty special
to me that I'd REALLY like to see developed for the NES.

    My top three:
    1. MISSILE COMMAND
    2. STAR WARS
Alas, it's not likely we'll see these, since the coin-op licenses
are owned by (*shudder*) Atari. Still, wouldn't it be great to
have these with the capabilities of the NES (or better)?
    3. SINISTAR
This was a mid-eighties space shootout by Williams Bros. which
I played a LOT ("Beware.....I live!") It was quite complex for its
time, but would probably work quite well today.

    Some other favorites:
    TEMPEST, BATTLEZONE, (Atari)
MOON PATROL, ROBOTRON 2084 (Williams Bros.)
    QIX (Taito)
    TAC-SCAN (Sega) - the coin-op vector-scan version.

How about it, campers - what games would you like to see made for
    the Nintendo? [And don't say PONG ;^) ;^) ;^).....!]

    						--Eric--

P.S. I'd like to place an "Honorable Mention" for a game that was
supposed to be made by Atari, but never was: STARFIGHTER. This
was the ficticious game around which the movie "The Last Starfighter"
was framed. I was SO disappointed when it never made it to the
arcades or to the home systems. (BTW, it was watching a rerun of
that movie last night that prompted me to write this note!)

456.1Pac-Man lives....NETMAN::BLANEYNot just a job, an OBSESSIONTue May 08 1990 11:2620
    << .... Pac-Man .... >>

I know what you mean about golden oldies, but I have PAC-MAN at home.
Now mind you, it is a crappy version, and I have drafted a letter to
Nintendo to voice a complaint. The game allows you 1 extra man after
10K and that's it! It only has 3 cartoons, "The Chase", "The Rip" and
"The Strip" (as we affectionately call them) and then "The Strip"
repeats itself every four mazes. It also only has 8 tokens (fruit or
edible items for points). Once it reaches the 8th token (a blue key)
it keeps repeating and repeating the key. I got up to 158,000, (I
started to get extremely bored at that point and let my 5 year old take
over) no more free guys, no different cartoons, no different tokens, and
no different mazes ---- obviously a low budget game!!!

However, for the record, it plays just like the arcade - easy.

Just thought I'd let you know it's out there.

456.7BLOCK OUT or ???NANOOK::PARENTTue Aug 28 1990 20:3713
I don't remember the name of this video game but it was played on
a table model video...you could play against the machine or you
    could play against another person.

You would try to block each other off with a running wall...that
you could each control, one wall was one color and the other was
another color...I kind of want to call it BLOCK OUT or something
like that, does any one remember the game.

And does NES make any thing like it...? Ir really was a good two
    person game.

In response to .-1 .. the name of the game was blockade. It was a fairly good
game, A similar game is the lightcycles in TRON. Nintendo does not make this
game to my knowledge. Atari had it though.

456.9Yup, Thats it...NANOOK::PARENTWed Aug 29 1990 12:079
    Eric,

Ya that was it...I really enjoyed that game, and I did notice a
comparison between lightcycles in TRON but never did play the game.

Does anyone know if there is anything out there that is similar??

    Thanks,

Two venerable old games have made it to the Gameboy: Qix and Space
Invaders (both from the Taito originals).

Re. -1 Good choice! And it probably would be neat on the Gameboy too,
if you could make it using the Nintendo (+) controller.....

Say, that's a thought .... what old games would go good as handhelds?

    How about Scramble and Battlezone?

P.S. I see that Qix made it to the NES. All right!

456.15"...SRB ignition...we have lift-off!"LUDWIG::PHILLIPSMusic of the spheres.Thu Apr 25 1991 12:2917
I think I should mention one other favorite, which I tried just the
    other day....

SPACE SHUTTLE (Activision) for the (*gasp!*) Atari 2600.

I still find it puzzling that, given the popularity of flight simulator
computer programs, no one has issued such a game for the Nintendo. The
Activision game is still an absolute marvel, considering the original
capabilities of the 2600. In a magazine article, author Steve Kitchen
says he wrote the program for the 2600 because it had the largest base-
line, and because it was a challenge to squeeze so much into what was
    considered an archaic system.

Now, considering the obvious capabilities of the NES, could you
*imagine* the Space Shuttle flight simulator we could have? (*Sigh*)
