I do not know if this works on teh Nintendo Galaga (though after reading the
review, it might be the next cartridge for my Nintendo).

Following the Line Feed, there is a more detailed description of the
"Trick" for the arcade version.

Allright, this file has been too quiet for too long.............

In reviewing some old files (yes, general house/file cleaning) I found a couple
of tips I saved from Usenet.

This one is for GALAGA!!

Subject: Cheating at...er, Simplifying Galaga (spoiler)

Alright...due to some interest in the methods required to, uh, disarm the
aliens in Galaga, I have decided to post the technique. All you others
not interested, quit here on this

Two step process.

Part One

Maim :	On a reasonable level (say, one or two) you may obliterate all aliens
EXCEPT for the leftmost one in the lower row of BLUE aliens. Note
that the aliens always return to the same positions, so take care not
to accidentally destroy this one (since they all look alike.) If you
become unsure of which it is, you may 1) let them all live and hope to
survive part two, or 2) clobber them all and try again next wave.
This occurs quite often, and usually involves not knowing which of the
last two blue aliens was the lower one when they no longer stop in
	their launch positions.

Part Two

Wait :	Sit around idly for 5 to 20 or so minutes, usually around 15. This
may cause boredom to the player, and annoyance to the arcade management
but it must be done this way. Your surviving aliens will stupidly come
down and attack you as usual, and because you have decimated them
(you HAVE decimated them, haven't you?) you have little to fear, and
deftly dodge their futile shots. Sometimes it (they) will fire one,
sometimes two, sometimes none. When the last condition occurs three
or more times, congratulate yourself, and shoot whatever remains.
Not a single missile will fall your way until level 256 (or your
last death by kamikaze attack, whichever comes first.) While dodging,
of course, beware those shots which cross over the screen edge, and
try to look as though you are engaged in a vicious battle with the
hapless alien, if only for the benefit of surrounding game players.

Part Three (part three? I thought it only had two parts...)

Play :	If you're a good player, you will find this but a convenience and
your scores may not change much.

If you're a bad player, this may help you quite a bit, or at least
let you see what you've been missing (by not getting there.)

If you're like me, you will die anyway, because I'm rather bad at
Galaga. At this point, swear off videogames and return to the
realm of analog pinball, especially those made by Williams.

Enjoy, y'all.
-dave
(ed: -dave has nothing to do with Galaga, nor Williams. He merely eats his
lunch in front of these items (former case) and their products (latter
case). Say, does anyone have a complete list of hidden city locations
in Xevious? I've forgotten them all...)

175.3I agree: galaga is worth it.SARAH::HOVEYSun Feb 19 1989 12:278
I 2nd the motion. Galaga is great and just as good as the arcade.

If you have the joy-stick, slow works and you can play for a long time.

Also, by using your VCR you and play coronor and figure out why you died
(e.g. answer the question where the _ell did HE come from) and learn not to be
"there" on the screen or if I don't hit this guy soon he's going to turn
into three scorpions.
