56.0. "Where the games are" by YODA::TAYLOR () Fri Feb 05 1988 11:42

I am starting this note to let others know what and where games
are available. I have been looking, not very diligently, when
visiting stores and I am surprised at the lack of games on the
    shelves.

So if you have seen some that are available please add a
    note here.

Well, KAYBEEs in the Greendale Mall (Worcester) seems to have
a fairly good selection at the moment.

If you have K-BEE toy stores in your area, Check em out!! Out here
in Colorado Spgs. They have over 35 nintendo compatible games in
    stock at all times...

56.3Stuarts in BillericaHBO::BLAISDELLI dunno...d'you know?Mon Feb 08 1988 10:4419
Well, there goes life as I used to know it! Finally went out
and bought the basic NES with Super Mario Brothers. Added a couple
of more games (Golf and Zelda) to round out the library. It's
    fun and addicting, especially Zelda.

Where did he get you ask? Well I live in the Lowell Mass. area
and after reading about the trials and tribulations of Larry Ingram,
I plunked myself down at the phone yesterday and started dialing.
Paydirt was reached after about the 20th call. Stuarts in Billerica
had a few of the basic systems in stock. They hold it for you if
you call, to boot!! Unfortunately, the price is at 89 instead of
    the customary $79.

Other possibilities are; Service Merchandise will back order the
game for you and the rest of the stores are saying the end of February
    for their next shipment.

Well I finally got mine...after adding a note a couple of weeks
ago (53?) I to scoured the country side. I placed orders at several
places for "rainchecks"..got some mail on Friday from Service
Merchandise in Aurburn Mass. Picked it up on Saturday, however,
in this area games were very much in absence. I did get Baseball
and golf at the Fair in Worcester Ma.

I spoke to a manager at "Toys R Us" and he stated that this chain
is somehow affiliated with Nintendo and they should be well stocked
by this coming weekend (that is area TRU.). I have a coupon from
the Worcester Telegram for $3.00 off all catridges in KAYBEES Toys
(Limit six). Their store in the Aurburn Mall had a very limited
    selection on Satruday.

Now that I have the game I (when I get the kids away) can't stop,
I am a Nintendo Junky after less than 48 hours.

I am in quest of the basketball and Top gun catridges so if anyone
sees them around please drop me a line.

    Thanks..

Thanks for the prior entries I really didn't know where to start
looking After visiting and calling many different stores specifically
for TOP GUN I called the Video 2001 store(Calif) and they're
shipping one out to me. Should take 3 to 5 days. They're also
sending out a complete(?) list of games available. I'll list them
    here when it arrives.

                     {The Games Are Here!}
I live in Western Ma. so if your in the area check out the Ingleside
Mall in Holyoke Ma. It has easy access in that it is right on RT
91 north from Springfeild or the Mass Pike. Store located in this
Mall which carry the NES system are Service Merchandise, Paysaver,
Electonics Boutique, and Babbage's. Probably the best for game
acquisition is Babbage's. It carries no hardware excluding joysticks
(currently out of the Advantage). What the do have is lots of software
and firmware. They carry a complete line of IBM software along with
software for Apple's and Commodore's. They also have NES cartridges
and SEGA carts. I was in there Sunday and they had atleast 15 Top
Guns on the shelf along with 1942, Rygar, Ghost $ Goblins, and about
20 others(Zelda was out of stock, but they did have it two weeks
ago, they expect more in on Tuesday the 16th.) I'll try and keep
a look-out for additional places which are clustered like these
4 are in central place for the W. Ma. area.

Still Fighting in Zelda (Rnd 2 Level 7)

As is such the case below. This reply was originally entered
in Topic #3 which is only suppose to be used for (FOR SALE, TRADE

people decided to reply to this note. If you wish to reply to an

This way it doesn't take up unwanted disk space and also save others

Before you enter a note, take a few moments to do a directory

O.K., I give up!!! I've searched every store in the area, and Zelda,
The adventure of link, is nowhere to be found! The stores won't
tell you when or if they will be getting it in, and when they do

I'm from southern Ct. Is this cartridge this difficult to find all

A most unusual location I discovered late last week. It's called
the Plaza Convenience Store in Tyngsboro, on DW highway about a
mile south of Pheasant Lane Mall, right across from that roller
skating place. As of last Friday, I noticed they had SMBII, Zelda,
and a few others. I don't think they advertise the fact that they
carry them, and I don't know what the prices are, but with Christmas
approaching rapidly, price may not be a major consideration.

For those of you still trying to find game cartridges, I was at
Pheasant Lane Mall last night, and noticed that the record/tape
store has quite a few Nintendo cartridges. Prices seem reasonable
    as these things go.

Sorry, don't remember the name of the store, but it's on the lower
level right underneath Ross Jewelers at the Penney's end of the
mall. Specifically saw Zelda and a few others, didn't see SMB in

I saw Simon's Quest in Kaybee's at the Burlington Mall last nite.
They had 5 copies & had 4 after I bought one. Next door at the
Electronic Boutique, they had Castlevania I.

My little brother bought me Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf last weekend
at a Toy's R Us in Poughkeepsie NY where they had just about everything
    including Link II, SMB II.

There's a video store up the street from my house at 798 Mass Ave
in Arlington called Video Horizon's. They have at least one copy
of EVERY available cartridge with multiple titles of the popular
games (They have 7 Blades of Steels!). They also SELL Bases Loaded
& had 2 copies left last week. They sell other titles as well.
Their rental price doesn't make sense to me. $2.00 the first day,
$1.00 each additional day & they have an honor system where you
agree to bring the game back within a reasonable period of time
(not more than 3 or 4 days). It makes more sense to charge $1.00
the first & $2.00 the additional days but I guess their honor system
    works!

Where is BLADES of STEEL?!? I am tired of renting this!

kids just got out of Arlington High! They have another store in
    Billerica.

KayBee Toys in the Mystic Mall in Medford got a shipment in this

I picked up my Blades of Steel there for 39.99. They have 3 left

About the same as most places I've looked.

Most games range from $36 to $43. I have seen a few (I assume less
popular or older) for as low as $30 and once as high as $45 (though
I haven't seen any for this much recently. I think TETRIS was going
for $41, but I'm not sure.

One more thing, sometimes there's a tall skinny salesperson who
can get a little annoying, but he does seem to keep fairly good
track of what's happening with various Nintendo products. He says
he's trying to expand their selection of available games.

     Mike,

I'm also looking for Hudson's Adventure Island for my niece for
X-Mas. This one is hard to find. It was pretty plentiful last year
at this time. Now it seems like not that many stores carry it. Of
the 12 different stores I've gone to, only (1) stocks it, (Child
World) and they were on back order. This was the CW in Fitchburg,
      Ma.

I'll be checking again this week to see if it comes in...

56.102A new one from BroderbundCURIE::BERNIERThu Jan 11 1990 23:5550

	Hi,

I just got off the phone with the people at Broderbund
They make games for Nintendo such as Legacy of the Wizard,
The Guardian Legend and as of Jan 9th they began shipping thier
latest game The Battle of Olympus, This is a role playing action
adventure game simula to Zelda I would think. It has a password
feature also and the graphics are supposed to be pretty good.

I asked the operator if they had a mailing list I could get
on for future releases and she said she didn't think so but
they do have a catalog for Broderbund products/software and
although she doesn't know if all of thier Nintendo games are
listed in the catalog she said that the new game Battle of Olympus
is listed in it. You can buy this and maybe other games directly
from the company by calling 1-800-521-6263 they accept all major
credit cards and check/money orders as well.
you can also have them send you a catalog using this number.

Taken from Game Players strategy for Nintendo games Jan issue

"The Battle of Olympus, Save the beautiful Helene before she
is devoured by the hideous Hydra. This is relentless role-playing
action with graphics that need to be seen to be believed !"

The picture they show has really good graphics and it seems to
be set in the days of Hercules and Zeus. In the picture there
is a character (main character?) who is wearing a toga and sandals
with a crown of leaves in his hair, and carring a shield and sword.

Based on the picture in the mag and the fact that thier aren't
to many RPG out at this time and depending on the
description of the game in the catalog I will be receiving I will
most likley order thier new game The Battle of Olympus
after I get thier catalog, it sells for $39.95
(not bad for a RPG with password feature for the Nintendo)

I'll keep you posted with any new info that I may receive
and a review of the game when if I get it.

Record Town in the Greendale Mall had 5 copies of SMB III at 4:30 yestday. I
bought copy number 4 at 5:10. But I'm not entering this note to help you find,
the game, just to suggest technique.

When I was looking at the games in stock, a clerk asked if they could help me,
and I gave the usual "just looking" reply. Just as I was about to leave, a
second clerk said "You have the Mario look, are you looking for Mario?" I
quickly mumbled "Number 3?" and she said yes and pulled out a copy from
under the desk.

Point is I got lucky. If you're looking for the game, and they're not
displaying it, ask anyway, they might have it tucked away.

Happy Hunting!

about 10 other folks waiting for the store to open (they all had
gotten "the word"). At any rate, once we all dashed in, they had about
50+ tickets out for SMBIII, and it looked like they had plenty of

I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that
Leachmeres does have SMB3.The bad news is the price.I went there
originally with my girlfriend to buy ARKANOID(If you know anyone selling
it let me know,I can't find it.).Anyway,we were looking when I overheard
a lady talking to the cashier. She said"All the cartredges are on sale,
even SMB3."So I rushed over and scoffed up the last copy they had. They
sold 100 copies that day,thurs..The next day I went back and bought a
NES for myself and a SMB3 cartredge at 30% off.(just the tape was
30%off)SO.. Sat. I went down to buy TETRIS(cool game). the manager that
was there told me there was never a sale and the salespeople that told
me that were wrong.I argued with him for a while ,but to no avail. He
said I was lucky to get the two that I did.So... SMB3 will cost you
$50.00.Sorry for the disinformation,but I was misinformed.Iwent to Child
World next door and found tapes a little cheaper. That's where I got
TETRIS.As far as other Leachmeres carrying SMB3,I don't know,but I don't
see why they would'nt.

To All,

Can we please keep the "Where the Games Are" notes in this note. A lot
of the topics have more notes on where the game was sighted, rather than tips
and discussion of the game. Especially the SMB III note lately.

I too have been guilty, and will change my noting behavior.

I was going to place this in the FOR SALE/TRADE/WANTED note but
decided visibility would be better here.

The Toys R Us in Auburn is making room for new titles by selling
off games at reduced prices. Last Friday, they had roughly 20
games - in a special area - all selling at $19.97.

These games were standard games, light gun and power pad games
and ranged from adventure/role playing to shoot'em up games.

I bought 2 - Blaster Master & Monster Party. What is interesting
is that the original selling price is indicated. A few of the
titles I saw were LOLO I, Gotcha, & POW.

I'm not sure if other Toys R Us stores are doing the same thing
but the Auburn store had new games that I had never seen or heard
of before - including PLENTY of Super Mario 3!

By the way, the sale was not a weekly sale - it was ongoing until
    stock was gone.

Tengen is currently offering a $5/cartridge rebate on selected games,

The AMES store I was referring to is located on Amherst street, Nashua,

AMES is actually what used to be ZAYRE department store as ZAYRE was
purchased by AMES. I here though that many of the AMES stores closed
down due to all the business problems AMES took over from ZAYRE.

Tengen games are starting to be a real (explative of choice) to find.
The info I got from one store manager (a real fan of Tengen Tetris) is
that Nintendo says "Buy from Tengen, we get slow and short on your

twenty stores in the Rochester, NY area includes a number of chains

If there's one near you, I think it's well worth the price.

This brings up a question, though. How much do the retailers *really*
pay for these games? Willow used to be $45-50. I find it hard to

Hi,

Toy Works, in the new Water Tower Plaza at the corner of routes 12 and
2 in Leominster MA, has just opened.

They have a good selection of games. Nintendo, Sega, and GameBoy.
The selection is not as good as Toys-R-Us, but it's not far behind. They had
all of the new games, and the prices were good. One that stuck out was
Double Dragon II for $39.99.

They were having a grand opening sale this weekend. On a purchase
of $70 or more they knocked off 10%. I don't know if that is still happening
now however.

To get there, take route 2 to the rte 12 Leominster exit. Go through
the first set of lights, and take your first left, right by McDonalds. Toy
Works is on the other side of the parking lot.

If you cannot find somebody willing to part with Mario Brothers, check
the ads in the back of the video game magazines -- several places buy
and sell used games. Also, try Video 2001 in California at
213-824-4737; I got one from them. It was a while ago, but they had it
    when other stores did not.

Thanks for the tip - I stopped by the Child World in Nashua last night, and
wow - about 85% of the Nintendo games were on sale! I picked up Castevania
for $14.90, and Silent Service for $19.90. The most recent games like
Super Mario Brothers 3 and Pipe Dream weren't on sale.

If you plan to stop by, do it soon - I don't know how long the sale is on for,
but I bet that after tonight there will be slim pickings! (If it's not true
already)

I'm not sure if this REALLY fits in this note or not, but...

I was in Boulder last week and stumbled on a store in a mall that had some VERY
impressive prices. They had over 100 games all priced between $16.99 and
$24.99. They WILL ship, though they couldn't give me a prices since I would
need to talk to the manager. I took a couple of minutes to copy down a few
prices - btw they claim they will meet ANYONE's prices...

Sega games are also discounted. Wonder where I'm going tonight? 8^)

Don't rush to the Child World in Fitchburg. Looks like they've been
cleaned out. I only saw one or two games for $9.99, neither of which
generated any interest for me. (One was Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde).
Zelda and Faxanadu were advertised for $9.99, but were not to be found.
There was probably some fine print in the circular I saw that said while
    supplies last.

About a third of the games were discounted in the $10 range, but there
was a very small selection overall. Only about 1/4 of their selection
they had two months ago. Looks like bankruptcy might be a possibility
    for this company. Pity.
