I rented the X-MEN cartridge for a weekend and was sorely disappointed. The
intro screens and character selection screens were awesome, but the rest of the
cartridge didn't retain that level.
The game play is seen from above, rather than from the side. You basicly run
thru 5 or 6 levels of play, beating the bad guy at the end. Each level, is
a complicated maze with small bad guys along the way. You control one of the
x-men, and the computer controls a second. You can switch the control to the
other x-man at anytime. You get 8 x-men, I think, to choose your pair from.
Once one pair is killed, you get to restart with two new x-men until they're
all gone. Each x-man has different capabilities. Some are powerful but slow,
others are fast, but lack in power.
I found the graphics to be fair at best. It was tough at times to distinguish
a bad guy from the background. If all eight x-men were on the screen at once,
you'd also have a hard time distinguishing them apart. But this was before I
got glasses, so maybe the graphics aren't so bad! 8^) Also, the computers
x-man would often times get hung up and blasted by the bad guys well before you
could switch control to him and save him. I also didn't like the control of
the x-men. It somehow didn't feel natural, if there is such a thing with
Nintendo controlled Mutants!
The game plays a lot like Gauntlet, another game I didn't care for. If you
liked Gauntlet, then you might like this one. However I'd strongly reccommend
renting/borrowing before buying this one. I'd give it a 4.

| Pete,
I would caution you to get some more input before you shell out
for this one. I don't have any first hand experience, but a
friend of mine rented the game and was very dissapointed. I
don't recall the specifics, but I wold suggest renting it, or
at least getting input from a few more people before you buy.
