166.0. "Noise while using Super Mario Bros." by SPGOGO::SAMSON () Mon Dec 12 1988 14:45

Could some of you Nintendo "Gurus" help me?

My 8 year old got a NES system package with 3 games in one cartridge
. Super Mario Bros (works with controls)
. Duck Hunt (works with the zapper gun)
. World Class (works with the power pad)
When he uses SMB there is a fairly loud noise in the background
which is disturbing. However the noise is gone when he plays the
    other two games.

Would anyone know if this is normal or is it a bad cartridge?
My son promises me that the noise will go away as he uses the game!
Which I find hard to believe.

What advice do you have? If it is a bad cartridge does it go back
to the store or to the manufacturer?

    Thanks.

    Judy Samson

    Re .0:

It sounds like a bad cartridge, although it might be a bad system that
just happens to have the problem displayed with Super Mario Brothers
    and not the other games.

Take the cartridge back to the store where you bought it, if it has
been less than a week or whatever their return policy is. If they
don't have a cartridge in stock, ask them to open a set that has it in
it, because otherwise you'll just bring the whole system back for
    exchange.

If the store does not have a replacement in stock, then you'll either
have to wait or contact Nintendo and make an exchange.

166.2Call Nintendo!HOTAIR::DAVISWe're Flying!!!Fri Dec 16 1988 20:4913
If you fail with the store call Nintendo at their toll free number
and explain the situation. We had a Zelda cartridge go bad and
I called about the situation. While I was on the line I explained
about a controller that was acting funny. The rep said send them
both to Nintendo (even though the controller was out of warranty).

They replaced both at no charge and sent them Federal express!

This time of year it'll probably take a month or so to get returns,
    but they're usually free!
