149.0. "Milon's Secret Castle" by PARROT::FORTEN () Fri Oct 28 1988 19:32

I just saw a game at Kay-Bee in the Arsenault Mall called,

Milon's Secret Castle. My question is, has anyone played this game
and is it worth the money ($40.00)? If anyone has played this game
your opinions would be most welcomed..

Also for those of you interested Kay-Bee had twenty SMB-II but were
sold out almost immediately. I have the number for the store if
anyone is interested. Its in the Arsenault in Watertown Ma. I'll place
the number in the SMB-II note. They are expecting another shipment
on 11/3/88 so I'll call Tues.

Again any info on Milon's would be greatly appreciated.

    Scott.

149.1Tried it - lousy instructionsGPXVOL::MCCANNChuck McCann - GNED DNC/DNTMon Oct 31 1988 14:068
My wife just picked it up and we tried it out this weekend.
The instruction book is not worth the pulp it's printed on. It
explains 2 objects that can be picked up, and leaves the rest of
the items unexplained. That led to an extremely frustrating time
with the game - though it looks like it has potential, it remains
to be seen whether we'll have the patience...

Milion's Secret Castle and another new game, Adventure Island, are
both made by the same company. Both these games seem to be rip-offs of
the SEGA games, Wonder Boy and Alex Kidd in Miracle World.

    Re .2:

I think it is excessive to call them rip-offs. They are probably both
the same game owned by the same company, only Sega has forced the
company to let Sega market the game under the Sega label rather than
    their own.

Hudson's Adventure Island does seem to be the same as Wonder Boy, but
Milon's Secret Castle is definitely not Alex Kidd in Miracle World.

149.5Too many secrets?COGMK::MCCANNTue Nov 15 1988 13:0414
Has anyone else tried the game? We're not having much luck with
it. We've been in room one and have entered the bonus round, picked
up the honey comb, and captured the hudson bee. There is an area
in the upper left hand corner that could be interesting, but can't
    find a way in.

We've also gotten into room two. We've scaled all of the left side
of this room, but can't get up to the upper levels of the right
hand side of the room. It also appears that a tool other than bubbles
is necessary to cut away block is this room, perhaps the saw? Trouble
is we can't find the saw.

Any help in how to complete these two rooms and move on
    would be most appreciated!!!!

    re: .-3

For anyone interested, my nephew and I had made it up to the fourth
floor and recieved destroyed three Guardians.

The following are spoilers on some of the helpful tips and items
    you can find.

                      <******SPOILERS*******>

First of all, there is a honeycomb in every room (Wow, tell me
    something I don't know)

A hidden store is on the first floor in the first room. (destroy
two blocks then move a block that can't be destryed, then shoot)

A hidden store is in the second room in the uppermost righthand
corner of the second room. (you need the shrink potion and Springboots)

A musibox is found on the first floor by bumping your head in the
first room on the first floor.

                         <SPOILERS FOR SECOND FLOOR>

First, before going into the well, get both honeycombs from two
    rooms.

There is a hidden store in the "HUDSON" room on the lower rightmost
    corner (you need to shrink).

There is a music box in the "trap-door" room right before the exit.
also a store is hidden in the middle of the room.

You need a vest for the fire room. You cannot destroy the "LIVING
FLAME" (lower leftmost corner of fire room.) Destroy the three blocks
right of the "living flame and fall into a trap-door (THIS IS THE
    SECOND GUARDIAN).

                         <SPOILERS FOR THIRD FLOOR>

There are hidden stores in all the rooms. The towers are interesting.
Explore all the ledges (the saw will cut closed windows. It's found on
the first level after you buy the hammer)

    After that good luck!!!!

How the heck do you "kill" the monster on the first level?
Is there some secret, how many times do you have to hit him and
where? My son and I have tried so many times that our fingers are

None of the Nintendo magazines have printed any way to continue Milon's

    re. 11

    Chris,

You can continue the game but only -AFTER- you've defeated
the first guardian (get the crystal). This will only work on the
game you are playing and your position and possesions cannot be
saved when you turn the power off.

After getting the first cyrstal, if you get killed (which you most
definately will!!) press the controller pad over to the left then
press start (while still holding the pad in the lefthand positin).
You will continue in the room you got killed in.

    Hope this helps.

149.15YOU CAN MOVE THE BLOCKS!DNEAST::DUMAIS_BOBMon Feb 06 1989 12:3832
Just got this game this weekend. I had all sorts of trouble getting
past level 1 and 2 mazes. I got everything I could find in the two maze
rooms that I thought were available, but could not get the monster (boss)
to appear in the room. So, I decided that if there was something I was missing,
someone else would need find out where and what. My 10 year old daughter
got home Sunday from visiting her grandmother and was going to play Kid
Icarus (her favorite game though she can't get too far). She found that
you could move blocks the first time she went through the maze one! GREAT!
Look at this! You found the Key to this room in 1 minute where I couldn't
find it in 8 hours. Kids are too lucky at video games sometimes.
The instruction didn't say anything about being able to move blocks
around. I know that there is a hint in one of the hidden rooms which says to
push the on fireplace for four seconds, but you can't get to that section
until you figure the first and second mazes and defeat the monster. It's
easy to get discussed playing this game when you try to do everything you can
think of with no results.
A fin for a map seems steep to me since the game cost $40 to start out
with. Lets ask Nintendo Power to do a review of this game in the magazine.
May save a few bucks!
My son was dragin' his butt this morning when he was shipped off to
school. I fell asleep on the couch about 2am. I asked how long he had played
and he told me 'till 4am! I think he was on the last boss. I told him that
he needed to have a bit more common sense when playing the game. Since the
game doesn't have a password feature I told him that this game is made
to play during the weekend in order to have a chance to defeat this one.
It's hard set it down when you know what you've had to get through to make
it to a certain level.
The number for questions is on the reverse side of the box. I will
check it out this evening and post it here if I can remember to do so.

        Check this game out!

149.16a few Milon questions.CLUSTA::EFRANKTue Feb 07 1989 11:2012

    A few questions....

How do you enter the section at the top left of room 1.

One of the hints says "secret in front wall", what is this.

On the second floor, I enter the middle door and come right out
    why is this?

I think the game is challenging. It seems that there is quite a bit
    to explore.
149.17In A Maze!DNEAST::DUMAIS_BOBTue Feb 07 1989 12:2113
	RE: -1

You must continue to another area. You will enter the front wall
as you normally would to get there but in a different area. You need to kill a
few more bosses before you get there. I don't think that entering through
the front wall is any secret.
(hint) Once you gat a hammer windows are not the only place you
can enter the castle. The middle door on the second level is not the only
place you'll find that this sort of thing happens. These are what I would
call one way doors or windows, you can exit but not enter.

Has anyone figured out you get to the door in the left hand corner,

third stage before you can get
to enter the room you are talking about.
There's no way of starting the game at a different level than the
first stage after you have powered down. What a BUMMER! I got to the
FINAL BOSS last night and didn't do the correct continue
sequence. Try again tonight.

For all you Milon Players. I've drawn the castle for this
game and numbered all the windows which have some importance to them. The
following is and explanation of the symbols used and then a summary of what is
gotten in each room. I may have missed a few things along the way and anyone
who would like to share something I've missed, please do so(I can't seem to
find one of the Music Boxes). From here if anyone needs help on one
particular room I may be able to help.

NOTE: This may be MAJOR SPOILERS for those of you who would like to figure
       this out on your own!

You drawing of the castle was good, thanks for the listing of
the items and what room/level they can be found in,but do you
think you can give us a little more detail on how we can get
	these items?

	For example,

in what room is the saw and hammer and exactly how do we get them?
Do we have to move a stone?,shoot bubbles at a certain place in a
certain room?,buy them at a store, how do we get the stores to appear?
	Kill the dragon?

I'v been in the 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th rooms an can get the boots and
	potion and 2 music boxes,found 3 stores,one store in the 1st room
(boots),one in the 2nd room(potion),two stores in the 3rd room
store "A" 3rd room has nothing in it except you can buy more power
store "B" in 3rd room has a lantern but you need 50.00 and I never
have that much money. Can't get to the well room!

How do we get to the well room?????
How do you kill the dragon in the 3rd room(window)?

I've had this game for about 2 weeks but can't find any of the items
	(hammer,saw) that you mentioned.

Please give us (myself and other noters) a few spoilers minor or
	major spoilers welcomed.

I want to complete this game before buying any new ones but at the
rate I'm going at I'll be old and grey before I figure it out.

	Thanks in advace

149.24Stage 1 Demon Monster Spoilers!DNEAST::DUMAIS_BOBFri Feb 17 1989 13:3843
	Hi Wayne,

I had a problem in defeating the demon monster in the first stage
also. Lets see if I can help you to get this guy.

	1st Stage Demon Monster Spoilers

Make sure that you have gotten both honeycombs in room #1 and room #3.
This increases your life energy and also fills your energy to capacity.
What might help next is to get a Bee. After you get the bee get a heart to
increase the shield power to it's fullest. The bee works a bit strangely.
What I do is get the bee in the first room and try to leave the one in the
second room for later. This means that you can't shoot the one in the second
room or it will not appear later on. If you have trouble keeping the shield
from the first room all the way through the second room go ahead and get the
one in the second room. Here's the technique that I use.

First get the honeycomb. Next get the bee. You must get another
heart to make the shield its fullest power after you get the bee. You will see
the shield expand after you get the heart needed. The shield will only
increase to its fullest power level when your energy level is full and you get
one more heart afterward.

To Defeat the monster you must get your hits near the head. Jump at
the right time to avoid the blue fireballs that it shoots at you. If you have
the shield you will be able to withstand a few more hits.

Now on to the Saw and Hammer. You will see that to get the Saw, you
need the Hammer. The Hammer is in the well, and you can't get to the well
until you get to stage 2. To get to stage 2 you need to defeat the demon
monster in room 4. I thought that I could cut the tree down with the saw,
when I first started to think about what the saw was to be use for, so I could
get to the well. WRONG! I don't want to give any more and spoil your fun
altogether. If you need more let me know.

	Hope this helps,
Let me know how you do.
	Bob

149.25Stage 1 down,now on to 2CRUISE::WBERNIERSat Feb 18 1989 19:1128

    	Hi Bob,

    	Thanks for the help.

I can now make it to stage 2 on my 1st try 3 out of 4 attempts.
I also found it easyer to kill the demon when you get the
umbrella 1st,this way you can shoot with rapid fire and I only
loose 2 or 3 of my life hearts.

I can make it through the shutter room without any problems
but that hudson room is hectic! Haven't had much luck in there, but
will keep trying. A lot of things going on in there all at the
        same time!

I also went into the well room to see what that was like and
        it looks pretty interesting.

I'll keep working on the Hudson room and let you know how I
        make out.

    	Thanks again,

    	Wayne

    	back.

        Are they available yet?

Does anyone have them yet and if so how are they?

How did you get them?......How much did they cost?

    	Thanks in advance

149.27Is It Raining?DNEAST::DUMAIS_BOBMon Feb 20 1989 12:2815

	RE: -2

You're right Wayne! I forgot to mention that the umbrella is needed
to defeat the demon monster. The umbrella allows Milon to rapid fire the
shots. Use this technique whenever trying to defeat any of the Demon monsters.
In fact you should try to get an umbrella as soon as you can when entering any
of the rooms.

        RE: .20

Marianne, I hope this has helped you to defeat the monster also.
Let us know how your doing.

149.28How to beat the monster...lesson 1DPD20::DAVISGBGil Davis - N55591Mon Feb 20 1989 22:2221
We've made it to the third level (i did it to the fourth once...but
no kids were there to witness it...darn).

Anyway, here's my technique for killing the monsters to advance
    levels.

    1. Get all the honeycombs on the level, to get your potential power
    up as high as possible.

    2. Make sure you are up to full power (i.e. all the little rectangles
are Blue - or atleast they are on MY TV)

    3. Get the umbrella for rapid fire BEFORE entering the room.

    4. Jump WHEN THE MONSTER JUMPS! I get into a rhythm of jumping at
the same time he jumps...then I'm ready to give him about 3 or 4
shots in the face when he's at my end of the screen....

    Works *almost* every time!

While one umbrella helps (lets you have two bubbles outstanding
on the screen at any point), two umbrellas is better (lets you have
    three bubbles at any point).

    				that is)
149.30Quick shot water pot.DNEAST::DUMAIS_BOBMon Feb 27 1989 17:418

    	Re:-1

Yea, I have found that three is the max on the umbrellas as
far as making you weapon shoot as fast as it can.
Oh the water pot! Use it to cool off the enemy!

149.31Is This Really FUN?MORO::WHICKER_BIThu Apr 06 1989 22:4412
Has anyone actually completed this game? Is it really worth the
effort to struggle blindly thru each level, with bascially no guidance
or instruction? I guess I'm more into games like Zelda where there
is a map and set of instructions, and the player can get an immediate
sense of purpose for the game. I don't even know what the h***
I'm supoosed to be doing in Milon's Stupid Castle! Am I out of
the mainstream with this kind of thinking...do YOU like to play
games like Milon in which everything is a guess? I don't, and will
probably dispose of the game by violent means in the near future!

	Hi Sion,

I think you haven't got the two special objects you need to save
the princess. The way you can tell what you have is to go into a shop.
Besides selling items and giving you hints there's other helpful
information on the screen when in a shop. Things like items you have so
far, number of coins you have, number of crystals you have, two secret
items, etc.. If you have the instructions to the game, there's a good
explanation of what is displayed and where. Let me know if you need any
help in getting any items you may have missed. I'll be glad to post it
here or send you mail.

I am writing this for my son Greg who is quite a wizzard at these
games. So here goes his response to your question.

Do you have the fire extinguisher? If not, get it (it is the water
pot). Touch the fake princess and turn it into a bat. Now, hit it
with your bubble 20 to 25 times and it will die. After you have
killed it, it will start to flash. When it stops flashing you should
see a crown or a cane where the fake princess was. Get this and
go to the far right of the screen and blow a hole in the wall. Go
into the hole and you should find a trap door in the floor. This
door is the way out of this room.

Could someone post some hints for defeating the fake princess
and the "ice room" demon monster in stage 3? The map and list in
reply .21 have been a great help in getting to this point, but
	these two creatures seem unbeatable!

To fight the fake princess, I drop into her chamber, turn her
into the bat, then drop out and try shooting her through the
columns. I find that staying in the chamber with the bat, we die
very quickly. Is this the right approach?

The problem with the demon monster in the ice room is that his
fireballs seem to take more than one life heart at a time, and
we can never stay alive long enough to do him in. Is this
monster really different from the previous ones or have I missed
	something?

We have all but two of the items we are supposed to collect. We
don't have the water pot from the ice room, and we don't have
the high jump boots from the hidden store room on level 3 (the
map called it room 1a - we can't find it.) Are these item
	necessary?

	Thanks for any help.

	Hi Chet,

The room which I had designated as 1a in stage three didn't get
labeled in the second map I drew for the game. That room is directly above
room 1. Remember the room in the very first stage, the first room? There was
a room on top that has some money and a door. This is where you go when you
get to 1a. You do need the boots to be able to defeat the icy room demon
monster. The way I have been able to defeat this guy is to try to stay to the
right when going down. This will put you very near the entrance of the demon
monster room and let you get in without getting hit. By the way, the icy room
monster is not the most difficult monster in the game. Once you defeat the icy
room monster you will be able to defeat the fake princesses. Let me know if
you need any more help.

149.47FINALLY BEAT IT!!WORDS::MSMITHTue Oct 24 1989 11:5011
I finally beat this game last night. After all that fighting &
exploring, I thought the ending was lacking--not nearly as good
as most of the other games I own--no credits or anything. However,
I still think this is a great game with good graphics & lots of
challenging mazes. I found it very helpful to have rapid fire though.
The 4th Stage wasn't as bad as I thought. I just kept exploring
every room up & down until I figured out where the REAL Princess
    was.

149.48"Help in the "WELL Room""HBO::BROUILLET1990-A new beginning!Mon Jan 29 1990 12:1327
Hi there, well I just finished reading all these notes and didn't see
anything regarding the "WELL".... this is a very frustrating game since you
have to start from "scratch" if you power off.

It took awhile to get into the swing of being able to defeat the dragon in
level 1, finally did it, got to level two, went into each room, got killed
but used the sequence you described to continue, got the lantern, and I
think - vest. Found the room in the Hudson Room by accident, I just kept
hitting every square inch and I fell down to the letters and just kept
going, anyway I decided to go into the Well Room.... the lantern doesn't
show too much and it is a "challenge" to find your way to the rest of the
well... anyway, naturally I got killed and I thought that I did the
sequence but when the game started I was at the beginning again.... you
need to be able to have plenty of "time" to do this game...

What I really am looking for is "help" in the well... when I finally get
over to the left side.... where do I find the hammer, do I just try and
"kill" all of the demons or can I "duck" them.... and when I do get the
hammer, will I automatically come out of the "well" or do I have to work my
way back up....?

Just a "few" MAJOR spoilers would be greatly appreciated... if you don't
want to post them here, you can send mail via HBO::BROUILLET.

Thanks again for any help with this "frustrating" but "different" game...

    Re: .52

To answer one specific question: you have to defeat ALL of the demons
to complete this game (I'm pretty sure you need all of the treasures as
well). IMHO, the one in the fireplace was the second hardest, mostly
because it is at the end of a room (as is the hardest one), so you're
usually half-dead by the time you get there.

Oh yeah, the directions are completely useless, so don't worry about
    it.

Hmmm...as I recall, the feather was *real* hard to find, and I don't
think you can reach it without the high-jump boots. Am I thinking of
    the right one, Bob?

    Spoiler for balloon:

In the fireplace room, there's a closed-off square section around the
middle of the room. Keep shooting into it and the door will appear.
Shoot the two blocks on top, and push on the one that's left to fall
    into the room.

    Spoiler for feather:

Nah, it took me too long to find this room; I'm not gonna tell.
    Just kidding...here it comes:

It's in the extreme top right corner of the blue room. Shoot out the
top right ceiling tile, position Milon directly underneath on the
springy block, and JUMP up into the room.

    Another clue to get the Balloon is;

There are three money blocks which appear when you shoot upwards.
Once you get these you can then go up. I don't think that you can
defeat the monster in the Icy room until you get all the items in stage
    3.

You can't go up the elevator until you get the feather.
