46.0. "RYGAR" by MLCSSE::PICCICUTO (All I want is more than I'll get!) Mon Jan 04 1988 14:32

If it's OK with the moderator I'd like to start a "RYGAR" notes
file because I really like the game but I'm stuck and need some
help from you experts out there.

                         < GAME STORY >

Once there was a holy place called Argool which was founded by five
lengendary Indora Gods. One day, suddenly the blackest tragedy
happened. The prosperous holy place, Argool was attacked by the
troops of the cruel king called Ligar. The sky of the holy place
was completely covered with the flying castle of Ligar and his army
of dangerous beasts. These animalized soldiers came down from the
sky and committed the most atrocious cruelties. In a single day,
they established the kindom of EVIL. In addition, Ligar took away
the "Door to Peace" symbolizing the peace that had been created
    by Indora.
The hope of peace disappeared with the loss of the "Door to Peace"
and the people of Argool ceased to smile and could only pray for
salvation. They prayed an ancient passage to counter the fulfilled
prophecy of Ligar's evil reign of terror. The legend say, "When
the peaceful land is covered with EVIL SPIRITS, a brave soldier
will be brought to life from the dead, for the purpose of saving
persecuted people. The people of Argool's painful prayers were
so loud that it reverberated throughout the mountains and traveled
a long distance in the land of Algosu. And at last, Rygar, the
hero came back from the dead in order to restore peace to the land
of Argool, battling the forces of evil everywhere. Join forces with
    RYGAR!

I haven't played Zelda yet, but from what I hear, it's similar to
Rygar and the graphics and music are great.

46.1How do you get those weapons?MLCSSE::PICCICUTOAll I want is more than I'll get!Mon Jan 04 1988 14:3911

I need help on attaining the weapons and other items along the way.
I made it all the way to the top of Gran mountain only to find that
I needed the grappling hook and or other items. As I destroyed
the Pragokelis', Rolphers and other nastys I see the "items" appear
on the screen but I don't know how to take them and then select
them on the sub-screen so I can use them. Any helpful hints would
    be very much appreciated.

Don't ignore the booklet as they give you the location of the five
treasures of Indora. Basically, you fight your way through to the end
of each area and pick up the prize. Sounds easier than it is. My son
and I have 4 of the 5 but can't figure out how to get to the Island
 of Dorago. Help?

Unfortunately, it takes quite a while to get to all the places
and you can't save it unless you just leave the box on until you
    get to the end.

    Re .1:

To get an item, just walk over it. You do not need to select them on
the subscreen; they are automatically available. For example, to use
the grappling hook, just point upward and shoot (and hold the button
down). To use the gear that carries you across ropes, move near the
end of the rope and move around a bit until you hear the "clink".

You have to go through each of the areas in a certain order; the only
way to find out is try. If you do not have what you need, you will
come to a point you cannot pass.

    Re .2:

You get to the island by using the device that carries you across
ropes. You also need the coil of rope, so that you can send it across
    the water to the island.

When I walk over them do they appear on my sub-screen in the "windows"
as they appear to do in the book? When I walk over the items, I
hear a "beep" but they never seem to appear on my sub-screen, and
I move my sub-screen pointer and nothing appears to happen???

More help would appreciated because the game is not being used because
    I can't get these weapons.

    Re .4:

Most of them appear in the bottom-right box of the sub-screen. Moving
your sub-screen pointer will not do anything; they are not things you
point to. The pointer can change the magic you are about to use (to
restore health or do two other things) and switch between the flute and
your normal weapon, I think, but you do not get the flute until late in
    the game.

46.6location of wind pulley ?PARITY::GILLFri Jan 08 1988 13:3112

Greetings - I'm entering this question for my son, so please excuse
me if the terminology is incorrect.

He has played RYGAR for the last week or so and is doing well except
that he has not been able to find the 'wind pulley'. He believes
that this is in 'Eruga', but is not sure where.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I haven't gotten that far yet, but there is an "Idol" with a nasty
robot guarding the entrance. It's located close to the entrance,
up about four levels and you need the grappling hook weapon because
you go as high as you can, move to the right onto a unconnected
chunk of rock and then point upward and extend your hook and you'll
find the Idol. I can't remember what I found there so good luck,

    (I must start taking notes....)

I have two questions.....how do you do a form feed in NOTES so I
can locate spoilers after one and.....in RYGAR has anyone gotten
to the very top of Gran mountain and how?

If you are using the default editor (TPU/EVE), you can get a form-feed
by pressing control-V and control-L. The control key is just like the
shift keys; you hold it down, press a letter key, and let it go. I've
finished the game, so I have been to the top of Gran mountain.

The entrance to the tower is up a few levels from the entrance to the
rest of the game, and to the right. You will need lots of energy plus
enough of the mind-power things to restore your energy plus the
    medicine to restore your energy.

Make sure you have three things:

    	o full power
o seven of the "mental power" tokens so you can restore power
o the medicine that restores power

This will let you restore power twice during your fight with the
monsters, assuming you get through the rest of the castle without a lot
of damage. Then just fight. Don't waste any time; hit as fast as you
can. I made it just as I thought the last of my power gave out.

You have to get onto the first island by means of the wind

you get to the tree stump. Stand on the stump (or very close

46.18How did you get the 'wind pulley'AKOV11::CONNAUGHTONGIA/FS Information ServicesFri Feb 19 1988 15:3613
This question is also for my sons:
They have the grapling hook, and have reached 'Eruga'. However,
they can not find the 'wind pulley'.
They have read replys .6 & .7 to this note, but still can not find
    it.
They're wondering if they need to kill the two-headed dragon at
the end of the 'Eruga' before one of the gods will give them
the wind pulley. Currently they stay on a branch of the tree and
jump over the objects the two-headed monster is firing at them.
Do they need to kill the monster, before they can get the wind pulley?

    Thanx

    Re .17, .18:

Yes, you must kill the two-headed dragon at the end of Eruga. I seem
to recall being able to jump on top of it and hit, but that may have
    been a fluke.

To find the tower, look in:

Rolsa Valley. There is a place where you can go way up. Play the
    flute.

There is an easier way to kill "Eruga" and most of the other monsters
    you have to kill:

    <semi-spoiler follows>

If you get enough of those "minds" you can use the "attack and assail".
It makes it a lot easier to kill him. If you want to make it even
easier, then get right in front of him, use "attack and assail"
and hit him at the same time. When the "attack and assail" runs
    out just keep hitting him.

YOU MUST KILL THE 2 HEADED DRAGON BEFORE YOU CONTINUE. TO DO SO
YOU MUST FIRST BUILD YOU YOUR POWER UP CAPIBILITIES... THEN YOU
JUMP ON HIS HEAD CONTINUOUSLY WHILE AVOIDING HIS SHOTS AT YOU...
EVENTUALLY HE WILL GO TO SLEEP AND YOU CAN THEN JUMP OFF AND KILL
HIM... IT TOOK ME MANY HOURS TO FIGURE THIS ONE OUT...
46.23how do you use attack/assail?WEFXEM::WALKERWed Mar 23 1988 14:1117
I have not figured out how the "Attack and Assail" works yet...
I have aquired all treasures and confronted Ligar but without any
luck in killing him... My tone and last are at 4095 which is the
maximum and my mind is full. I also had the medicine...
Will the "Attack and Assail" help me here? And how is it used...
I select it on the subscreen and push "B" but I don't see any evidence
of it working... Do I need to go to the main screen and then push
    "B"?
This game is great... I started playing it at 5:30 last nite and
quite with frustration at 10:30 after being destroyed by Ligar several
times... Each time having to leave the castle to build up my mind...
Did you know there is a place in the castle to get medicine and
your life power refreshed.? that helps...

    I love Rygar!

    Buster,
It's been a while since I played RYGAR but, you are on
the right track. You will need attack and assail to defeat Ligar.
    You use a & a by selecting a & a on your sub-screen. After you have
made your selection (arrow is next to attack & assail) push the
A button on your controller. You should see your mind powers disappear
on the screen with the exception of two. I would suggest trying
it out while you are in the lower levels to be sure it works. You
will see evidence of it working when you push the B button. Every
enemy around you will be destroyed leaving nothing except energy
viles and mind powers. Remember, you will need mind powers to beat
    Ligar.

    good luck,

    Brian << RYGAR alumni >>
46.25reply to Brian C.WEFXEM::WALKERThu Mar 24 1988 18:2311
Thank You Brian,
I just want to see if I understand what you are saying... When I
get to Ligar I should go the subscreen and select "attack and assail",
then push the A button and my mind should go to 2... This will then
weaken Ligar... When I am in the sub worlds I should use the "B"
button and this will destroy all on the screen... Is this right?

Thanks for your response, I will be attacking Ligar tonite... I
will let you know what happens...

    buster
46.26almost ANGORA::CHARRONFri Mar 25 1988 19:5917
    Buster,
You are just about right.. You use mind powers in the sub
worlds in the same manner you would use them against Ligar. When
you have collected enough you select them the way I mentioned
previously (push A) and you're off to the races.. The important
thing to remember is, when you reach the room that Ligar is in
( up in the sky castle ) select your mind powers before you go into
the room. When you get into the room push B and you inflict serious
damage upon old Ligar baby. There is one more trick to killing Ligar.
Mind powers will weaken him, but you must finish him off with your
    weapon.. Remember, mind powers= sub-screen, select a & a, push A,
get out of sub-screen, push B. This works in the sub worlds as well
as Ligar's castle.. I goofed, push B when enemies are around you..

    may you free your people.......

bow should shoot across to the stump on the island. Make sure
you have all your "MINDS" and the jar of PHYSICAL STRENGTH and
    full POTENTIAL POWER.

Instead of fighting the DEMON GHOSTS, I recommend you jump over
them and enter the passageways.....worked well with me.

Also, be prepared to move quickly when you cross the open gaps
with the crossbow, or the GHOSTS will knock you off the edge!!

    					Love that ending!!!

Let me get this straight, first I get the grappling hook, wind
pulley, cross bow, coat of arms, suit of armor. When do I go for
the flute? Where is the jar of Physical Strength found? Is it
refillable? I mean once used, is it gone? Thanks for any and all
	answers.

46.35Helpful Hints?DNEAST::PURNELL_CHRII want my NES!!!Thu Mar 09 1989 10:3523
    Deb,

The grappling weapon first (Garloz). On to Eruga for the wind
pulley. Back to Garolz and enter the Den of Seguila for the cross
bow. By this time I usually have 8 hearts and proceed to Lapis
(located in Garloz). Then forward to the Palace of Dirago for the
Coat of Arms. Back to Gran Mountain, power up and head for the
Flute. Back in Garloz, there is a place to receive the Jar of
Physical Strength, then on to the Tower of Lile (Life). Enter
    the Floating Castle of Rolsa.

There are places where the "gods" ask you if you have the Coat of
Arms yet, which when you do, they will give you the Jar plus fill
your potential. Remember, have all MINDS, JAR & all POTENTIAL power
    upon entering "ROLSA".

About the jar, once you've used it, that's it!!

    					Hope this helps,

46.38I love my NES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1TYFYS::MOLLERHalloween the 13th on Elm Street #7Wed Mar 15 1989 04:4118
	Chris,
You won't believe this - I didn't play RYGAR this weekend.
I have been playing ZELDA II or THE ADVENTURES OF LINK.
I am addicted to my NES. This system has some good games
and I want to play them all NOW. I'm that kind of person.
I hope to get to RYGAR soon but these questions and answere
will help me when I do so don't despair, or give up
		answering

		my questions, O.K.?

I don't like the fact (in RYAR) that when you loose all 3
lives, you loose all the "minds" that you have accumulated.
Is there any way to save them??

    	Well Deb,

I wish I could tell you yes, but NO! Everything else
is saved (with the exception of hearts, you start up
with only 3). Your best bet is when you start back
    		up, bang on the enemy!!

I love the game and play it all the time. Wish I
could find Zelda II or Link, games are scarce up here
    		in Maine.

    		Any more questions, just holler!!

46.40Wind pully?? What wind pully??SALEM::EASTERMon Feb 19 1990 12:2411
My son and I are "TRYING" to find the wind pully in Eruga and can't.
We can defeat the two headed dragon and only lose one heart in the
process, but the dragons cries or howling continues. Is this ok???
And where is that wind pully?????

    Please help!!

    John.

P.S. We just got the game and enjoy it very much.

I believe the creature you speak of is more Bear than dragon, (yes?)
anyway....I found that if you avoid dieing and this creature gets
past you (are you on a tree limb?) it will disappear and the growling
will continue. This seems to be a bug, not a feature.

You have not killed the beast and there does not see to be a way
to get the beast back on the screen with out returning to the forest
    and reentering.

Power up with as many of the super blasts ( I don't remember the
correct term) and jump on the head while unleashing these. It should
drop the creatures power enough to "off" it with your regular weapon.

As I said, it has been awhile. If this sounds way off base, reply
with more detail as to where you are. Good luck!!

OK, that worked. After killing the dragon/bear the door opened up
on the other end. NOW!!!! Earler on in this note the mention of
the cross bow was made and this was in the ice type world with the
guru being garded by a robot. We've killed the robot but I can't
find the spot to climb up to one of the gods to get the cross bow.Is
this what I'am supposed to be doing?????

I believe you will see what appear to be tree stumps located on
the edges of these ice masses. Using the Wind Pulley allows you
to travel from stump to stump (on another ice ledge). Between using
this and the Grappling Hook you can move where you have to. Remember
you can go up as well as down with the Grappling Hook. Test the
waters, so to speak, and throw the hook up & down from every ledge.
You might be in for some surprises.
