707.0. "Metroid II (Game Boy)" by WIDGIT::WEST (Let's get GUI) Tue Dec 31 1991 12:10

What a great game !!! Has any one else got this yet ?

Does anyone know how to kill the plant that spits. I don't have my manual
with me to tell you the name of it...but it shrinks down and then springs up
spitting 4 somethings...pretty nasty character.

I've had some success jumping over it with great timing...but there must
be a better way.

I'm down to 29 metroids left to kill.

Also...has anyone found a second energy tank ? Two would be a great help !!

Yep, I've had the game for a couple of weeks. Amazing what they can
squeeze into these tiny cartridges :-)

Plant that spits = Blob Thrower, maybe? If so, I just blast it with my
    Wave Beam.

I'm down to 20 Metroids. I've got two extra tanks, but I don't have my
maps here. Keep in mind that a lot of "dead ends" aren't -- patient
bombing and jumping can reveal secret passages.

707.2I got it too!DEMING::CATUOGNOTue Jan 07 1992 09:4416
I received a Gameboy and Metroid II last week for my birthday and can't
seem to put it down. I've found 3 Energy Tanks, F-Beam, W-Beam, S-Beam,
P-Beam, Spider Ball, High Jump Boots, Space Jump and of course the Bomb.
I have 17 Metroids left and the game is getting very frustrating.

The hardest thing was waiting for earthquakes to happen to change the
level of fluid so you can go lower into the planet. There is still at
least one other lower section I can't get through until the level shifts
    again.

There are a ton of dead ends, even when you think you've found a
passage it doesn't lead any where. Unfotrunately in my hast when I
started the game I didn't make a map, just got to involved to quick.

I've seen two types of Metroids and am looking forward to seeing the
    rest of the cast.

I just completed it this weekend. The last stage is pretty tough!

Really liked this game - better than metroid 1 for the regular NES.

spoiler warning

Couldn't put any in earlier because DECWindow notes doesn't let me...

I kept working from the save game pedestals in a given area.

Climb every wall you can with spider ball, especially when looking
for the 3rd and 4th group of metroids.

After the 4th quake, they are pretty much all found in the same
general area of the maze, then you move on to the next area
after the quake..

When going after the big metroids, I always worked them with me
in a corner so they couldn't push me around.

If you have more specific questions, just ask... I'm doing the game
again!

707.6Where is the screw?DEMING::CATUOGNOFri Jan 17 1992 12:1114
    I need some help

I've been stuck at the same spot for days. I've gotten down to 13
Metroids left. I can't seem to find the varia or screw attack, not to
mention any other passages. I don't know how many quakes there have
been, but at least three. Any spoilers would be appreciated.

By the way, when you pause the game I get L07 where the metroid counter
was. The instructions say there is some other information that can be
found with the counter, but I haven't figured it out yet. Has anyone?

    Thanks,

You're doing pretty well to be down to 13 without the Varia. I'm still
at 20, but I did find the Varia early on. I'll give my maps a look
tonight and see if I can point you in the right direction.

I don't know where the screw attack is.

707.8I've got a screw loose!DEMING::CATUOGNOMon Jan 27 1992 10:317
Well it seems that I found the Varia last night. I'm still looking for
the Screw Attack and the Spring Ball. I am assuming that the remaining
Metroids are in those areas. I'm getting very frustrated and tired of
rolling and bombing!! Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

707.9a little insightWIDGIT::WESTLet's get GUITue Feb 04 1992 13:3223
For those that have not tried this yet...like me.

PRACTICE with the 'space jump'. It gets you to many places that you
can't otherwise get to.

Also...when you pause, you'll notice that the status line changes on
the right hand side. It shows an 'L' and a number. This is the number
of Metroids that you have to kill in order to cause another earthquake.
This wasn't real clear in the manual.

Boy is this a great game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've tried to map out every place I've been...but I tend to get carried
away and just cruise. I've gotten to one place that is a vertical corridor
with many "ball rooms" on the left hand side. A ball room is one of the
rooms where you shoot the ball to get the goody...like the spazer beam.
In these rooms I've noticed that they are repeats of the ones that you'll
find early on in the game. Great if you want to change your weapon.

707.10Where to hit OmegaMetroid ?WIDGIT::WESTLet's get GUIFri Feb 07 1992 14:0316
  Ok...little help needed.

I've begun to run into those bloody OmegaMetroids. I pumped over 180
missiles into one and it didn't die...I however ran out of energy.

I noticed that most of my shots were to its head. Is this not the correct
place to shoot this creature ?? They way it comes at ya, the head is about
the only place to hit it before it 'pounces' on you.

...also, I now have four energy pods...and it would appear that I lose
energy must faster than when I only had two or three. Has anyone else
noticed this ??

707.11Where are they?DEMING::CATUOGNOFri Feb 07 1992 15:365

you find the screw attack? I could use some help too.

I'm also down to 11 left. I don't have any maps to where I found it...but
I went low and then to the left as far as I could go...then up. I found an
entrance that is block by sand.

When you blow away the sand...there it is. A real nasty critter !!!

I have also not found the screw attack...sounds useful. Bet we have to
wait for the next earthquake.

707.13Omega or Zeta?DEMING::CATUOGNOTue Feb 11 1992 15:3017
I found the area you were describing in the previous note. I don't
think it is an Omega Metroid, but rather a Zeta Metroid.

I tried getting into this location before, but there were two stones
that blocked the entrance. I tried bombing, shooting, missles etc and could
never get through. Then I knelt on a ledge and shot a missle, and I was
    in!

The screw attack is in this area as well, you have to fight a metroid
    to get it.

I also found the spring ball last night in another area. I found a
statue with a ball, when you shoot the ball it truns into a creature
that can't be killed with missles or beam. I finally figured it out and
when it was destroyed it left the spring ball.

This game was well worth the $24.99!!

Could be...looked like the Omega from the picture in the manual...but we
know that's not always accurate.

Ditto. I noticed that these 'rocks' were different when I was unable to
"spider ball" over them.

Thanx for the clue...now to find this hideous creature. Does the screw
attack work well ?

Funny you should mention this. I found this creature pretty early on and
was unsuccessful on two occasions to kill it...I figured that it wasn't meant
to be killed and wouldn't provide anything. Well, tonight, I go for the
spring ball. Much thanx on this clue.

> This game was well worth the $24.99!!

I got this for Christmas from my mother-n-law (another Game Boy junkie).
This is a most wicked cool game. So far it's my favorite for the Game Boy !!

I have just 1 Metroid left and can't seem to find it. I'll describe where I'm
at after the spoiler warning.

Spoiler warning:

I at the point where there is a liquid that slows you down. Up above there are
3 openings, 1 has energy and missle replenishers, One has a broken statue
which will get you the ice beam (ithink), and one has the metriods that cling
to you and suck you energy (I don't think you can kill them). In this last
entrance you can see a metriod egg but there is a wall between you and the egg.
When you go under it the metroid count goes from 1 to 9 (?). If you follow
the passages you come to a room that has a "trap door" that drops you to a
passage that has diamond shapes in the way. I cannot for the life of me get
in there. I believe this is where the last of the metroids are. Is there
anyone who has finished this game that can help me out? Spoilers welcome.

The screw attack is useful when your flying around with the space ball,
if you hit anything you kill it and collect whatever they leave.

    RE: .15

I got there also last night, in between watching the Olympics.

    Spoiler

I was really made to watch my counter go from 1 to 9. I thought I had
taken to long to find this area and the Metroids started to multiply
again. They sucked the life out of me real quick. If it is like the
original Metroid you will need to get the ice beam, freeze them, then
shoot them with five missles. I haven't explored the area much as it
was getting late when I finally found it. I don't even remember where I
saved my last position. I probably won't get to play again till
Thursday, but will really try and find it.

Ok...just how does one kill a Zeta Metroid ?

Or better yet...how many missiles does it take ?

Also, has anyone figured out yet that if you leave an area with a Metroid
and then come back...do ya have to start over with the missile count ?

I just stood against the wall and shot missles into his mouth. It seems that

Finally finished !!! Now to try and do it faster. My first time was
21:00. I think I spent too much time "looking" for things.

For those that finished...how many energy pods did you accumulate ? I had
only four. Towards the end I saw a pod just under some "egg remains", but
didn't spend too much time trying to get it. Any one else figure out how
to get to this one ?

My ending wasn't any different than -.1.

707.23Game big lines ? TBJVOA::BAUDELOTSystem ghost ain't a bug...Thu Feb 27 1992 23:4712
Hi,

I just got it... but without the instruction booklet !
It seems a good game, for graphics & sound, as good as Gargoyle.
But... I cant'go through the 1st raw of stone-like things,
in the 1st vertical pit. Seems I'm rather stupid.

Would someone be kind enough to give me the principal rules of the
game, and to explain how to pass this 1st obstacle

Thanks in advance

I'm stuck at 20 Metroids left. I suppose there is an entry in the

but I could'nt find any.

Any hint welcome,
