706.0. "Are batteries user replaceable ?" by AIMHI::DEROO () Mon Dec 30 1991 12:27

After reading EVERY note that discusses batteries in games like zelda, I am
still unclear, are they user replacable or are they not and if not what is the
standard action to take when they go?

Thanks....
Ken

Batteries cannot be replaced by most users. I think the fastening
mechanisms on cartridges might be difficult or impossible to open
without special tools or causing damage to the cartridge. I wonder if
a service center might be able to replace the batteries for a small
fee. When batteries go, call Nintendo, play the game without saves, or
    throw it away.

The batteries are replaceable by a repair center. You can call
Nintendo and they will tell you where there is one in your local area.

Thanks.....I was shying away from buying used games that have batteries
because of that....I guess I din't need to. Unless of course,
    replacement is expensive.

    Thanks again.

I took apart our Zelda cartridge the other day. It's pretty
easy to replace the battery. Probably just as easy as
replacing watch batteries. The battery itself is pretty
large, I've never seen one like it before.

Note: Some of the older cartridges might be fastened differently than
newer cartridges. I recall a note on Usenet about Nintendo switching
from screws to snaps or something.
