469.0. "NFL Football (Game Boy)" by ADDISN::SWEENEY () Mon Jun 11 1990 16:34

I just picked up this game at Toys-R-Us and like it fairly well. The one
misleading factor is the name, and the box. It appears that you can play any
team you want from the NFL. This is true, but the plays, players, and abilities
don't change from team to team. At least not from what I can tell.

Anyway, here are the good points:

o Brought to you by Konami. Graphics and sounds are very good with little to
   no breakup. Though every time you receive a kick off, there's a little hitch
   in the display as you pass the 20 yard line.

o Multiple plays to choose from on both offense and defense.

o Realistic player movement, and passing. Once the ball's in the air it's not
   an automatic completion as in Tecmo Bowl. The receiver has to work for it.

o On Defense you can control any player except the down line men. Can
   intercept, and make shoestring tackles.

Bad points:

o Only the Quarterback can run the ball. No handoffs allowed. Though there
   are one or two screen pass options.

o Only two eligible receivers. Though your receivers are clearly marked, the
   computer's are not. It's tough figuring which are eligible, and trying to
   defend them.

o Though you can pick the team, there appears to be no difference between the
   the teams.

o The game may become to beatable. Though I've yet to beat it, I've found a
   few tricks that almost always guarantee 4 to 5 yards.

This is a good game for the game boy, especially considering the limits of the
machine. If you liked Baseball for the game boy, and are a football fan, you
might like this one. I'd give it a solid 7.

469.1The other football game?CVG::CAMPANELLACarpe DiemThu Apr 25 1991 04:206
    There's at least one other football game for the Game Boy (I can't
    recall the name of the game). Could someone with the other game start
    a new note with a review and perhaps a comparison to this game? Thanks
    in advance.
