277.0. "Adventure of Lolo" by BEING::POSTPISCHIL (Always mount a scratch monkey.) Fri May 19 1989 15:28

Adventure of Lolo is a game which requires some thought while (and even
before) playing each room. The game is a series of rooms with objects
to collect, blocks to push, and various types of monsters. There's a
harmless monster which just sits in one place, blocking your path.
Another monster chases you but falls asleep when it reaches you (which
blocks your path, so you'd better be careful where this happens). One
monster does chase and kill you. Another type of monster sits in one
place and shoots when you cross its view. At times, you have to
figure out how to push blocks around to block certain monsters.

The early rooms are not too complicated; I don't know about the rest.
    There is a password.

Oh, wait until you reach the last screen on level #8...be ready
for some quick turns and sharp timing...

Currently stuck on level #9 first room...it's like a puzzle missing
    pieces!

I've finished Adventures of Lolo. There are some nice puzzles, but I
would have liked more of them (What is it, five per floor for ten
floors?) and some harder ones. Some of the rooms do require quick
timing, but the game is mostly a thinking/strategy game.

277.3another Finish!MAGIC1::BEAUDETJUNK_YARD_DOG! DTN:297-6276Mon Jun 05 1989 12:2017
    Yup,

finished it Friday night. I have recorded all the passwords as
I went along. Seems several floors had more rooms than others.
It did seem to be more of a strategy game than a "reflex" game.
It also seem to have different solutions for several rooms. I
was a little dissapointed in the ending - not actually able to
go "one on one" with the devil, as the computer did all the work.
The closeup could have been a little better graphically and watching
the kingdom come "back to life" was cute...

Don't know what the price of the game is new - shouldn't be more
than $35.00 though...good game to practice startegy and develop
    patience.

    Now back to ROBOWarrior!

    Hi,

I'm having trouble with the 4th room on level #4. Could someone please
give me a hint? I am able to pick up all of the hearts, but when I try

Here are two hints, followed by directions.

    Don't cross the monster's path.

You have two shots. Use one to give yourself another path.
    Directions follow.

Push the rock left, but not all the way. Hide below it as necessary.
    Get the bottom left heart.
Push the rock right all the way to the bridge, again hiding as needed.
    Get the bottom right heart.
Push rock across bridge and up, but not all the way.
When the monster is away, get the top right heart.
Get below the rock. When the monster moves to the right, push
the rock all the way up to trap the monster on the right.
Go to the left, make a bridge across river.
Go to bottom, shoot bottom left monster, push its egg to the
right three squares or more, to give yourself access to
    	the chest from the left.
Go up, shoot the top left skull.
    Get the last heart.
Run behind tree, let the skull you didn't shoot come up and start
    	moving around the tree.
Run the other way around the tree, go down, and get the chest.

How much of a spoiler do you want? It took me a LONG time to
figure this one out and then, as usual, it was obvious. By
saying you need one more shot, I assume that you're ending up in

The problem is how to block in the pink moving monster.

Push the green block over the bridge up against the rock.
Go back and get behind the green worm, shoot him once and ride over
then push the block 2 spaces to the right. Go back over the bridge and
wait for the green worm to reappear in it's original spot. Shoot it
again from the side and push it to the right above where you pushed the
block on the other side of the water then ride over so that you can
push the block to trap the pink moving monster. Watch your timing so
you don't get killed getting things in position.

My 6 yr old (and I) rented Lolo (the original) this past weekend.
Considering how little time we actually played, I think we did pretty
good. However, we got stuck at one screen on level 6 (password CRZD).

Does anyone still have this game and might you be willing to give us a
tip on how to get past this level ?? We might rent it again soon.

The problem with the screen seems to be that you need 3 "things" to
block shots with, but there are only 2 things. There is one of those
guys who goes to sleep when he touches you, but I can't find any way
to get him to go to sleep in a useful place.

Thanks

I don't think so. This screen has lots of one way arrows, 2 stationary
guys that shoot in all directions, and 2 pink guys that keep moving
back and forth. I always end up needing ONE EXTRA blocker to get to
the treasure chest. But due to the one-way arrows, I can't get an
extra blocker where I need it!! This screen doesNOT give you the
chance to change an arrow to a different direction.

I think you might be further along that I am. Could you check out the
password (HDKQ) and let me know if you solved it?

I took a look this weekend at floor 7 password HDKQ...

Push the green block next to Lolo up just a little this will allow you
to cross the arrow side ways. Go around the block and push it down to
block the Medusa at the bottom of the screen. Go back up and go right
and push one block up and one down to block in the Medusa's on the
right side. Come back out toward where you started and go down and
around push the block up one space that is next to the 2 up arrows.
You are now blocking in the Pink Moving Monster at the bottom of the
screen. Push the next closest block to the right to complete block in
the PMM. Watch out for the PMM moving back and forth at the top. Now
you move up and push 1 block to the right and up and over onto the
grass. This block will block the top PMM on the chest side. Move the
remaining block to block the PMM on the side. You now should have all
the hearts and a clear path to the chest.

I hope this is clear and you can follow it.

I, too, hit the wall on DMYJ when I rented Lolo I. I couldn't beat out
that blob, although I thought I got as far as I could ahead of him by
tricking him to go around the 'loop'.

I thought it was kind of weird that this puzzle relies more on quick

running right down the middle (and I mean middle) of the pink

you need to make a quick jag to get to the chest.

BTW, there is a list of 4 passwords in the Nintendo mag this month for
"Professional" rooms in LOLO II. They take you to 4 rooms that

Just solved this one last night...

As all Lolo lovers know, shooting monsters with two bullets makes them
disappear. Eventually, they reappear in their original spot. Did you
ever wonder what would happen if Lolo "camped" on the original spot???!

On unrelated note, have you ever noticed you only needed to half-block
monsters to keep them from moving or shooting? One chest can block two
monsters up against a wall, rock, or tree! Same holds true for moved
    monsters.

Answered my own question last night...I was on the last maze! Good
news for those who were disappointed in the ending of Lolo I, you get
to take on the big bad guy one-on-one in Lolo II! Although once you
defeat him, you get that ridiculous close up of Lolo and Lala again.

Took a look at the 4 Pro mazes as well. Obviously, never before used
(necessary) tricks are required to complete these!

Also noticed for the first time, that when there are a lot of
characters on the screen that move (as they do when you pick up the
    key), Lolo really slows down.

Just finished LOLO I last night. Took me about a week of sporadic play
to beat it. I found it to be very entertaining, although I'm somewhat
disappointed with the ending. I have a few post-mortem questions,
    though:

    	1) If I start from the beginning again, will I see the same screens,
or does it generate new screens for the different levels? (Sort of
like getting to the second level of Zelda I...)

    	2) What's different between LOLO I and LOLO II? I assume L-II is
more difficult, but is the quest longer? Are the graphics different?
Are there different options available regarding strategy? Etc...Etc...

    Spoiler for floor 7

This one is a little tricky, but basically what you need to do is
Shoot snakey and push the egg into the water (DON'T get on yet, or
you'll be killed by medusa). Run around to the right side of the
medusa (as you're looking at the screen), as far down as you can get.
When the egg floats around, jump on, get on the island, move the block
to block medusa and then get back on the egg to get back to land.
(I think you come out on the top right corner of the island, kinda next
    to Snakey)

You need to be pretty quick on this one to get on and off the island,
AND block medusa in the same breath.

This is the EXACT directions, so you'll probably want to print this out
    and bring it home, or have someone logged on reading while you play;

    U = Up
    D = Down
R = Right as your LOOKING at the T.V.
L = Left as your LOOKING at the T.V.
    HRT = There's a HEART here/near

'#' = The number of 'blocks' (1 stone = the size of 1 block) you should
move, in the direction indicated. ie U1 = Move UP 1 Block, R2 =
          Move Right 2 blocks etc.

    Start:

U and get HRT. D all the way. R until you reach UP arrow. U1, R1,
U2 (HRT), D1, R2, U to HRT, UP to HRT, UP to top, L3 (HRT), CHANGE
ARROW direction of the arrow in front of you. Go 'through' (Left) arrow
    headed towards SKULLman. HRT, D1, L2 (HRT), D2, L1, D1, R1, D2 (HRT),
L2, D1 (you should be at the bottome of the screen here). R to UP
arrow (same as very beginning of the game). U2, R1, U3, L2, D1 (HRT),
L2, CHANGE ARROW **AND BE READY TO RUN** >>>This is your LAST
heart!<<< HRT, R all the way, UP all the way, LEFT all the way and UP
    and left to the chest.

SKULLman doesn't come through the path fast enough to catch you that
    way unless you 'stumble'.

Now, Hopefully I didn't miss one move and send you on a wild goose
chase! If you can make sure that the heart near the bottom encased in
3 'wrong way' arrows, is the last heart you have left, you shoot in
from the top, and go out through the bottom RIGHT, the rest should be
    obvious.

You need to shoot one skull with an egg. Then you can push it back (to
the left), trapping the other skull. Here's more information:

You need to use your shots wisely. Collecting the heart framers will
give you six shots. Use them in this way:

o One shot to make snake into egg, which is used to block the
Medusa at the top left while you get the last heart framer
    	  on the left.
o One shot to shoot snake while still egg, making it disappear.
It comes back in the middle of the screen.
o One shot to make snake into egg again, which is used to
block the Don Medusa at the top right while you get the last
    	  heart framer on the right.
o One shot to shoot snake while still egg again.
o One shot to make snake into egg. Use the egg to block the
Don Medusa again -- but block it from above. This requires
hiding behind the egg at the right moment.
o One shot to shoot skull.

password exactly, but it's something like VKDT, or some combination
thereof (I know the first letter is a V)

I can get all of the heart framers, and all but one of the medusas and
pink moving monsters blocked off. Unfortunately, the one I can't block
is the one that's keeping me from getting to the chest.

277.87Help needed on LOLO 1, Floor 9BTOVT::BERGERON_DFri Feb 08 1991 15:2410
    Hi,

I am stuck on floor 9(room 1). I have tried several ways to move
emerald blocks, but I can't seem to make it to the top to get all
the hearts. I know I need to bring blocks up to the top to block
off the 6 pink monsters, but I can't seem to do it. Some help
    would be greatly APPRECIATED!!!!!

    Thanks

    Re: 86

I finished this one myself just a few days ago. You have to use every
trick that LOLO has in his bag to get through it. For a spoiler hit
    <Return>.

    1. Don't trap the leaper directly over the medusa. Snatch the heart
framer before he hatches and retreat up and over to the right. Once
the leaper comes alive again, he'll come right for you. Zap him again,
push him down to the space between the medusa and the treasure. Sit on
him 'til he hatches and he'll sleep in a position to block your access
    to the chest.

    2.	The second hint is tricky, you need to use the snakey to block the
don medusa to the right, push an emerald block over his old position,
run up and grab the heart framer, run back, zap the eggatized snakey
before he hatches (he'll dissappear) and then staying one step ahead of
the don medusa, get in position to block him in the left corner. You
will then have enough resources to block the other medusa and grab the
jewel. If your timing is off, you won't have enough time to push the
emerald block over the snakey's spot and he'll reappear there.

    Good luck.

Well I finally made it through LOLO I and went out and bought
LOLO II. I've made it up to Floor 7, Password QHDK. It seems
impossible to finish this screen. I've noticed in previous notes
that others have had problems with this one!! Is there a way to
get that last heart up to the left of the door without getting
ZAPPED by the Medusa head. I'm about ready to SCREEAAAMMM!!!!!

I had "fun" with this level as well. What I did out of desperation
	was:

turned the friendly snake thing into an egg and blast him off the
screen. Then before he came back, I moved an emerald chest thing
over the location where the snake would come back, waited, and...

Hope this helps. Have fun! LOLO II is harder than LOLO I, but
the ending makes up for it, too.

277.95LOLO 3 is here.BALBOA::PRICELobotomy? Wait, I'll get a saw!Thu Feb 13 1992 21:4813
I finally found LOLO 3 at Toys R Us here in L.A. It's pretty good, and the kids
and I haven't gotten bored with it. The beginning levels and rooms are easy,
just like LOLO 1 and 2, but they get progressively more difficult. The "World"
has a map sort of like Super Mario 3, where you can choose the level you wish to
challenge. There is even a series of underwater puzzles with new bad guys, but
I haven't gotten that far yet. My only complaint is with the passwords used to
return to the level where you left off. The passwords are very long and don't
always work. After failing to get even one of several passwords to work we've
had to go back to the beginning after resuming a session. which takes up lots
of time. I still recommend LOLO 3 to Nintendo fans who like a little intellect-
ual challenge without the need for the reflexes of a 12 year old.

Every password I've gotten has returned me to the level I stopped at.
When the screen appears after you enter the password, you are in the
"overworld", but when you enter the tower you were working on, it puts
you in the room you were in previously.

    > The passwords are very long and don't always work.

Yes, the passwords are too long, but I have never had one fail. Make
sure you are writing them down carefully.

277.97No P.W. Transcription errors, maybe just a bad cartridge???BALBOA::PRICELobotomy? Wait, I'll get a saw!Fri Feb 14 1992 17:5810
Re: .95, EDP, I can't get past the letter/character selection screen for
entering the password, just get the error tone. Maybe I do have a bad cartridge.
I'm sure I copy the passwords correctly, even down to the hearts, diamonds,
and deltas.

Lemme try again this weekend, (When the Olympics aren't on the tube)

Thanks for your help.

    Re .98:

First you have to do some set-up work; you have probably already done
    these things:

Turn the left snake into an egg, and push it up and then to the left so
that it blocks the top Medusa. Push a block so that it blocks the
bottom Medusa, so now you can move over to the left side of the board.
(These aren't the first things you do; you'll have already had to block
the right Medusa, et cetera.) Then, go to the left and push in the two
blocks on either side of the chest, and push the block in front of the
    chest all the way down.

    Now comes the tricky part:

The trick is to get a block in the top row in the space two squares to
the right of the Medusa. Then go into the top row and get the heart in
the top-right corner. Move left to just above the snake. Shoot it
from above, then push it down and then to the right, so that it goes
into the rightmost column and blocks the right Medusa. Then QUICKLY go
above the egg, get the heart, and go back left and down so you are to
the left of the egg. Turn to the right and shoot the egg a second time
while it is still an egg.

Now go up to the top row again and wait for the snake to come back.
When it does, shoot it, push it down two squares, and then push it as
far to the left as it will go, and then push it up to the top right, to
the left of the top Medusa. You can now get all the hearts and go to
    the chest.
