262.0. "PLATOON" by PLANET::MCGEE () Sun Apr 23 1989 18:10

I'm trying to get some help for my 12 year old son. He has recently
purchased the PLATOON cartridge and has successfully mastered Level 1.

His problem is that in level 2 you need to find Flares and a compass. He
has found the flares, but can't find the compass. Any assistance as to
where it might be found would be appreciated.

Also, there is something you can do to get a password screen to come up,
which he has done, he just doesn't know what to do with it once he has it.
Again, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Bill McGee

262.1Re-entry of replies requestedWJO::MCGEESun May 07 1989 17:548
I know that 2 responses were given to this note last weekend, but due
to technical problems concerning disk space this replies were not added
to this notes conference. I would appreciate it if those two people would
be willing to re-enter their responses. Both my son and I would be very
grateful and appreciative.

262.2PLATOON LEADERHPSMEG::CLARKSun May 07 1989 23:2837
    After about 3 weeks of playing Platoon, I finally killed Sgt. Barnes
    and was airlifted out of Vietnam. The graphics in this game are
    spectacular, especially at the end when it is almost like watching
    the movie except in cartoon form. Another animation sequence from
    the movie can also be seen at the beginning of the game if you wait
    about 3-5 minutes after turning on the power without pressing any
    controls. As far as I know there is no continue or password option
    in this game. Unfortunately no matter what level you are at in the
    game, if all platoon members are lost you have to start back at
    the beginning again. This can be very frustating in the later stages
    of the game.
                      <<<spoiler follows>>>

    Sorry if I didnt do the spoiler correctly, as I am new at this,but
    if you dont already know what I,m talking about this info won't
    do any good.
    In order to complete the tunnel sequence you need the compass and
    2 boxes of flares. The first box of flares can be found in the upper
    left room inside a desk drawer. The second box is at about the
    bottom center section of the maze in a box. The compass is also
    in a desk drawer in a room that is roughly in the upper right quadrant
    of the tunnel system and the exit is at the bottom right corner
    of the system. There are other along the way which have medical
    supplies and ammo which are essential to your suvival. After several
    attemps at completing the game(actually about 75 tries), I knew
    the entire layout of the tunnel system, similar to how the first
    jungle pattern is learned. I hope this help you out, if not send
    mail for how I can get a hand drawn map of the tunnel system to
    you. Good luck, Dean.

    How the hell do you get out of the Jungle in Platoon? I must
    have killed a whole Nort Vietnamese Battalion walking around
    in circles getting no where...bumping into trees, jumping
    over trip wires....I just couldn't get out of the jungle,
    but I was killing them commie dogs by the truck load!

    Help me I'm lost...
