    WE PICKED UP A NEW TAPE THIS WEEKEND - PAPERBOY. IT IS REALLY A
    GOOD ONE - WENT TO CHILD WORLD IN WOONSOCKER, RI AND THEY HAD LOADS.
    WE TRIED IT LAST NIGHT FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS. JUST LIKE THE ARCADE
    VERSION. GRAPHICS ARE GREAT!!! ONLY GOT UP TO WEDNESDAY THOUGH.
    MADE IT THROUGH THE TRAINING COURSE (ONLY ONCE).

    HOPE WE CAN KEEP THIS TOPIC GOING!!!!!

202.2BIG OOOOPPPPSSSS!!!!FSHQA1::MSCHRAMMon Feb 06 1989 13:134
    OOOOPPPPSSSS!!!! NOTICED AFTER I ADDED LAST NOTE --- WHERE WE BOUGHT
    THE TAPE WAS WOONSOCKET, RHODE ISLAND -- NOT WOONSOCKER.

202.3Two Questions????SAGE::GREERMon Feb 06 1989 14:3111
    I'm pysched to here that Paperboy is now available. I have one
    question....how do you control the bicycle. In the arcade version
    you actually have handlebars that allow you to turn and excellerate.

    I guess I have two questions.....the second is, has anyone seen
    this game available anywhere in Mass. or even New Hampshire, I live
    in Marlboro, MA. and work in Nashua, NH. ?

    Thanks in advance,

    chris
202.5Very easy to find this one!VICKI::SHIPPINGLanguage of the mad... 261-2022Mon Feb 06 1989 14:529
    Chris, the game is everywhere right now. You should have no problem
    in any game store like Child World, Toys R Us or Kaybee. I wish
    Blades of Steel were that easy to find!  (^;

    Anyway, controlling the bike is easy, Up arrow is fast, down arrow
    is the break, left and right arrow for the direction. A or B buttons
    fire the papers.

    for those who don't know - the arcade upright has a DEC J-11 for
    the CPU in it, and now it's duplicated on the NES...

202.8A "brief" description - ha!ha!ha!FSHQA1::MSCHRAMMon Feb 06 1989 16:4930
    A QUICK AND BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME-----

    YOU HAVE TO DELIVER PAPERS TO CERTAIN HOUSES ON A STREET -- NOT
    EVERY HOUSE HAS A SUBSCRIPTION....ONLY WHITE, YELLOW AND BLUE HOUSES
    HAVE THEM AND THOSE ARE THE ONES TO DELIVER TO.

    YOUR ON A BIKE AND AS YOU PASS BY EACH HOUSE (W,Y OR B) YOU THROW
    A PAPER AT THE DOOR (FOR POINTS) OR TRY TO GET IT IN THE MAILBOX
    (FOR BIGGER POINTS). THE RED HOUSES DON'T HAVE SUBSCRIPTIONS AND
    WITH THOSE HOUSES YOU THROW PAPERS TO BREAK WINDOWS, HIT TOMBSTONES,
    OR ANYTHING ELSE IN THEIR YARDS.

    (BOY, I QUESS I'M NOT REALLY INTO "BRIEF" DESCRIPTIONS!!!)

    WELL, ANYWAY---

    AS YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO DELIVER THESE PAPERS (YOU HAVE ABOUT 12-15
    TO START WITH) YOU HAVE MANY, MANY OBSTACLES TO PASS SUCH AS
    SKATEBOARDERS, ROLLING TIRES, NUTTY NEIGHBORS WHO RUN AFTER YOU,
    REMOTE CONTROL CARS, ETC. IF YOU MISS THE HOUSES TO DELIVER TO
    YOU LOOSE THEIR SUBSCRIPTIONS WHEN YOU GET TO THE NEXT PHASE (THE
    NEXT DAY). AT THE END OF THE ROAD IS A TRAINING COURSE WITH OBSTACLES
    AND JUMPS, ETC. IF YOU MAKE IT THROUGH YOU GET EXTRA POINTS - IF
    YOU DON'T YOU JUST GO TO THE NEXT DAY.

    WELL - THAT'S MY "BRIEF" DESCRIPTION. IF ANYONE HAS MORE TO ADD
    - PLEASE DO.

202.9FORGOT SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!FSHQA1::MSCHRAMMon Feb 06 1989 16:5512
    I FORGOT SOMETHING

    AS YOU GO FROM HOUSE TO HOUSE, EXTRA PAPERS CAN BE PICKED UP. SOME
    OF THE HOUSES (ANY COLOR) HAVE "BUNDLES" EITHER ON THEIR SIDEWALKS
    OR DRIVEWAYS OR YARDS. YOU HAVE TO MANUVER THROUGH WHATEVER TO
    PICK UP THESE PAPERS. IF YOU DON'T OR MISS EITHER THERE ARE OTHERS
    AT OTHER HOUSES OR YOU JUST RUN OUT!!!

    	Hi Mary Ann

    	I see you got a second job delivering papers!!!!!

    	The game sounds good so far,what would you rate it from 1-10

    	By the way I finished the 1st phase of Zelda about 2-3 weeks
        ago I'm on phase 2 level 7 now.

    	Its hard to keep to one game though,I'm now into Castlevania

    	Zelda is on hold for a while.

    	I'd like to try the paper boy game
    	About how much is it going for and where can it be found??????

    	Wayne an X WFR resident soon to be a UPO1 resident.(Feb 20th)

    Hi Wayne...

    Great job delivering papers-----tough obstacles though. Rate the
    game a definite 8+. I've been trying to get Castlevania but cannot
    find it anywhere---got any ideas????

    The obstacle course at the end of each delivery day is really
    challenging. I seem to bump (crash!!!) into something before the
    end so I very seldom complete it for extra points.

    So where to at UPO???

    Take care...

    Mary Ann

202.12I Like It!PHAROS::WILSONI can't get used to this lifestyle.Mon Feb 13 1989 11:0414
    Just picked up this game and I like it. Interesting set of characters
    and obstacles to overcome on the paper route. There's one character
    not mentioned in the booklet: looks like an irate woman in a red
    housecoat, chasing after the paper boy. Right?

    The breakdancers are really funny, and I like the sound effects.

    It's fun and challenging.

    Toys 'R Us in Framingham had a number of cartridges available at
    $42.00.

    There is a place in Fitchburg on the John Fitch highway called Music
    Forum (actually they have several stores but this is the one I go
    to). It is in the plaza across from Heartland (with Rich's and Market
    Basket). The usually have a good selection of games and are usually
    good at getting new games in quickly.

    Stop by sometime and inquire about membership. Games are usually
    $2 per night or $5 for a week. They also rent movies.

       Also try Function Electronic's. Thier located on John Fitch
    Highway also. Rental fee is $1 per night or $5 a week. I don't
    believe there is a rental fee.

202.18Extra Lives???NEXUS::MARZULLAThu Mar 09 1989 23:2111

    	Just got this game a few days ago and think it's alot of fun.
    The furthest I made it to was wednesday with two lives left and
    never made it to the obstacle track. I think the sound effects are
    very good such as the glass breaking and car horns blowing.. Does
    anybody know of a way to get extra lives such as point totals? I
    have only gotten around 22k points once and that wasn't good enough
    for extra lives if it is possible at all..

    	I was disappointed with the ending of this game. After you deliver
    Sunday's paper it just ends like it does when you have died for
    the fourth time during the week except the paper's headlines are
    different.. Oh well, I guess I was just expecting something more
    to happen...

202.20paperboy a challenge????SCOVAX::MONOCCHIThu Apr 27 1989 12:376
    RE:-1
    Is this game easy to beat ? If its one thing I hate it dropping $50.00
    on a cartridge and having my kid beat it in one or two days. Best
    cartridges I bought so far was Zelda and Link. They lasted for months.

202.21Too Easy I think...NEXUS::MARZULLAThu Apr 27 1989 23:0113
    re:-1

    	I think this game was alittle too easy. I am not as good as
    alot of folks in here appear to be with these games. Some of the
    scores and how fast people complete some games amaze me. I can
    usally get to saturday if not the whole week with this game so it
    appears easy to me.. It only took a week of occasional playing to
    complete this. I agree with what you said about Zelda and Link and
    this game isn't even close to the difficulty level that they are.
    I suggest to rent it first..

    Steve

202.22too easy?SCOVAX::MONOCCHIFri May 05 1989 14:483
    Anyone else have this game who thought it was too easy? My son has
    been bugging me for this one.

202.23pondering?WLDWST::DRAKEThu May 11 1989 15:599
    I don't have Paper boy yet but I'm thinking about getting it. Are
    there just seven levels(one week)? Seems like it should go longer.

    If you're looking for a tough game, try GOONIES II. Without the
    Nintendo bible it is really tough to get beyond rescueing the
    third goonie, much less finding him. There is an entry in this
    thing for GOONIES.

202.24no bang for your buckSCOVAX::MONOCCHIThu May 11 1989 17:475
    Usually the good games vanish from the stores in record times. I have
    been in plenty of stores and Paperboy is well stocked on the shelves.
    This makes me wonder how good it really is. The game retails for 44.99
    in most stores. Perhaps the word has gotten out that its not worth
    the money.
202.25Rent first!!!!!FSHQA1::MSCHRAMFri May 12 1989 15:496
    I would suggest renting it first and see how you like it. I enjoy
    the game. I'm not into NES as a daily routine but when I do play,
    I usually play this one for quite some time.

    Again, rent first before buying.

    Thanks for the info. I will have to check with the local video rental
    center to see if they have this one. From what I hear, it doesn't
    sound like it would be worth it to buy this game.

    Just checking form feed.
