177.0. "Iron Tank" by TRUPUT::JWILLIAMS (Welcome to the Bush League) Wed Dec 28 1988 14:27

    Iron Tank is an excellent game. It's quite hard, but fortunately
    has a password feature. The theme of the game is relatively straight
    forward; You command a tank that is breaking through enemy lines.
    You control the direction of the tank and the direction of the turret
    with the control pad. A separate screen brought up by select allows
    you to choose which of your power ups you want to use at the moment.

    Excellent detailed graphics with enemy trains, planes, boats, subs,
    ships, and every form of tank.

    This game is a must have.

177.1I found it tough for beginnersAIMHI::RAYMONDThu Dec 29 1988 14:349
    I bought my first Nintendo the day after christmas and along with
    it I bought Iron Tank. I found it very hard and couldnt get very
    far at all. I ended up exchanging it for a advantage joystick.
    How does the password feature make it easier?
    I only have the Super Mario game it came with and am undecided which
    on to get next.

177.2Are you using the right tactics?TRUPUT::JWILLIAMSWelcome to the Bush LeagueFri Dec 30 1988 14:1528
    Iron Tank is fairly difficult, but I managed to finish it. The secret
    is knowing when and how to use the special weapons. One of the first
    big tanks you run into is at the beginning of the game. You receive
    a message via communications that there is a huge object ahead.
    As soon as you see the big tank, hit select. Choose fast, long,
    and armor piercing. Pump shots into the tank, and you can usually
    pop it before it gets off a single round.

    Another aspect of the game is knowing when to methodically eliminate
    enemies or to run. Some enemies will try to corner you, but others
    will sit kind of passively while you breeze by them.

    When you continue, you get to keep all the weapons you've collected
    so far. When you restart with the password, you lose everything.

    There are a few screens where you hve to shoot on the fly, particularly
    when you're on the train tracks. It will send trains down the tracks
    that you have to pop with bombs. The guns require careful timing.
    They will send off multiple rounds. The guns at the end, for example,
    send off 12 rounds and then sit for a while. You have to time your
    attack with these breaks. The turret guns on top of the buildings
    can be a particular nuisance. The ones on the left can only be shot
    using armor pierce. Normal or bombs don't go any further than the
    side of the building.

    As I said, I've finished the game, so if anyone needs any specific
    spoilers, ask away.

177.3Programming errors!DNEAST::DUMAIS_BOBTue Jan 03 1989 17:5628
	I got this game a while ago and found that it was fairly easy to
complete if you take the correct route. I have a few problems with the
game and would like to know if anyone else has experienced the same.
	The instructions state that the game can be played by two players.
I haven't found out how. I have a sneaky suspicion that whoever planned this
game had wonderful ideas which never evolved but are in some fashion still
incorporated. Things like, when they tell you to use the radio or call, the
information they give you is usually worthless! I think they wanted to do
something like the radio used in Metal Gear but never quite got it into the
game(time to market?). They also tell you to use Radar! How are you supposed
to do that when you haven't got any radar. They tell you to meet a guy named
Ichiban but never tell you when you finally meet up with him. Things like
this continue throughout the complete game concerning the radio or calling.
        The next thing I found disturbing was in one of the areas where you
have to destroy the C Think Tank, that's the small one which shoots the large
bombs. If the Tank get's into the lower right corner of the screen, it blows
up and you end up stuck. You can't be destroyed and you can't proceed any
further. This is a real drag because you have to reset the game to continue.
I believe that the Tank is quite a ways along in the game. Has anyone else
found that this is a problem? Maybe I have a bad game pack. To get the
tank to go to the area, move your tank there and then move out before he gets
into the area. Try to stay near the bottom of the screen.
	I found that the rest of the game was o.k. I would rate it a 6
and no more. Some of the paths you take are more difficult than others.
I have had some fun with this game.

177.4Bug confirmation.IOENG::JWILLIAMSWelcome to the Bush LeagueMon Jan 16 1989 19:156
    Bob, I tried it from the password you gave me, and I discovered
    the same bug. I kind of thought so to begin with, as those kinds
    of problems are very rarely the result of defective manufacturing.
    I don't know what to suggest except, "Don't do that".

177.5What will the Company say?DNEAST::DUMAIS_BOBTue Jan 17 1989 18:348
	Hey John, thanks for trying that out and letting me know about
your findings! I sent a letter to the SNK company about Iron Tank and
another game they sell. I'll let you know what they have to say about the
hitches in the Iron Tank game.

	Thanks again,
	Bob
177.6Spoilers Wanted Iron TankKAOA01::BOUGHNERTue Apr 03 1990 16:228
     I bought Iron Tank for my 10 year old.I usually don't have alot
    of time to play and figure things out so I'll take any major spoilers
    you can give.

    RE:177.4 I did find alot of the same problems with radar,messages
    ect.Would be interested in what the SNK company has to say.

    Regards Dave
177.7So what is their excuse?KIMCHI::KWAKHeaven + Man + Fire + Earth = ChaosWed Jul 04 1990 20:586

    I would also be interested in what SNK has to say about printing the
    instructions to read "IRON TANK can be played by one player, or by two
    players at the same time." Just how is one suppose to choose two
    player option if it never asks you. Please post what the SNK says
    regarding this particular bug.
