135.0. "Golgo-13" by CYCLPS::FORTEN () Wed Oct 12 1988 19:04

    I just got a game the other day at Child World called Golgo-13.
    It's about a sniper (KGB) who is framed for blowing up a CIA helicopter
    containing a deadly bacterilogical agent known as Cassandra-G. Now
    Duke "Golgo-13" has to find the real culprits plus the antedote
    with the help of some spies from "FIXER". He carries an M16. The
    graphics are very good and the storyline is credible. Its sort of
    a cross between Rambo and Metalgear. It has no password but can
    be continued up to 52 times (after which you start from the beginning
    again). Once you get the hang of it, its fairly easy to survive
    up to the maze.

    There are three different screens: one is known as the conversation
    screen where you can see Duke and other characters (just like Rambo)
    Theres also the action scene, this is where you fight several enemies
    at the same time from Golgo's point of view (Using a Crosshair sight).
    The last is the animation scene? This is where Golgo fights most
    of his ememies and talks to people on the street.

    I find the game can be very addicting but that you can get overwhelmed
    and killed very easily. The maze is very confusing, a map may sometimes
    be neccesary. All in all its a good game.

    I rate it a 7-8.

    If anyone else has this game lets hear your opinions and sugestions.

135.1A little confused...VICKI::SHIPPINGRemember... walking in the sandMon Oct 17 1988 18:5411
    Got it about a week and a half ago. It is interesting. Cute at
    times with the story line unfolding before you. I haven't played
    in a couple of days, but I agree it is habit forming. I find it
    odd, however, that you can get into the maze, exit it at a different
    point, and find a guy telling you that this is where you go into
    the maze, and good luck.

    I'm confused about that. Besides that, I rate it so far about a
    6.5.

135.2Where's the maze CURIE::GREERTue Oct 18 1988 19:2416
    HELP!

    I just bought this game last weekend (10/15) and enjoy it very much.
    However, HOW DO I GET INTO THE MAZE? I've been told that the bad
    guys are under the river, is that where the maze is?

    As you can tell, I am totally confused. Also, is there anyway to
    shoot at the KGB when they are shooting at you? They are always
    too low to hit.

    So as not to spoil anyone elses game you can send all the spoilers
    you like to me at CURIE::GREER.

    I appreciate the help,

    Chris
135.3I don't think it's that great.ATSE::FLAHERTYImagine...Fri Nov 11 1988 15:2512
    I got the game, and am very sorry I did.

    I don't feel the game is that good. The graphics of golgo on the street
    arn't good at all, the dialogs are cute, but thats all. The maze seems
    to have the best graphics, sharp & clear, but it is the same thing over
    and over again.

    I'' play untill I win, and after that this game will collect dust.

    			An attempt to be like a PC game... FAILED,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

	I bought this game last week and I think it is pretty good. The game
	models a 007-style adventure with secret agents, exotic locales,
	secret hideouts and strong enemies.

	After a CIA helicopter carrying the Cassandra-G Vaccine is shot down,
	Duke Togo, aka Golgo-13, is called upon to destroy the culprit and
	reclaim the vaccine.

	Without giving too much away, the game begins with Golgo-13 in Berlin
	trying to gather clues as to the identity and whereabouts of the
	culprit. The game continues to several more cities. I don't know
	exactly how many since I haven't finished it yet.

	Since this game does not have a password feature, it will undoubtedly
	take you several sittings to get good enough and to learn enough
	information to successfully complete the game. However, you do get
	52, yes fifty-two, lives or "telecasts" as they are called in the book.
	Although this doesn't bode well, I succeessfully played for 4 hours on
	22 lives and made it up to Act 8 (each part of the game is an "ACT",
	as I said above, I don't know how many there are since I haven't
	finished it yet). However, the first time I played I just made it
	through Act 3 with all 52 lives.

	The game has two modes of play. In normal mode, movement is horizontal
	across the screen. The other mode is played looking down the barrel
	of a gun. There are also undersea and in-the-air challenges as well.

	This game can be extremely frustrating at times but it can also be
	very good. I can't wait to see what the ending is or even find out
	who the culprit is.....

135.8AmazonGUFFAW::GOYETTEDelicious Demon !Thu Jun 29 1989 12:5810

	Has anyone been able to get through the Amazon Jungle.

	I've been able to get through 3 or 4 areas, all identical looking,
	and filled with karate-kicking women and fireballing stinger soldiers.

	How many areas do I have to complete before I get somewhere ??

	Help please !

    RE: -1.

    Spoiler to get through the Amazon!

    You will note that going through the jungle, there are two larger
    trees, the ones which are more brightly colored, that are close to
    each other. If you go between these two trees you will find yourself
    in a different part of the jungle. BTW, I've completed this game so
    if you need any more help, just ask!

135.10STAGE SELECTDASXPS::BRIDGESWed Jul 26 1989 10:277
    There is a stage select for this game. After the logo "top secret
    episode" fades press start then on controller 2 hold up, left and
    the a & b buttons, on controller 1 hold a & b and up, then press
    start again. This should give you this "00" by holding up it will
    change the code. I can't think of all the codes at the moment but
    I do know that acts 7, 11, 12 cannot be reached by this method.

135.11Maze - Level 3HAVOC::CUTLERThu Dec 07 1989 18:106
    I was wondering if anyone give some help on getting through the
    maze of level 3 of this game. My husband is stuck. I know nothing
    about the game.

    Thanks

135.12Also stuck at Act IIIUSADEC::STARVASKITue Jan 02 1990 19:0811
    I just got this game for xmas. The furthest I've gotten is act III.
    It seems to me that the first maze in act III (the one were you open
    doors and have a compass) is just a diversion, only good for getting
    extra ammo. If you swim to the bottom of the river you find another
    fortress, which is were I get stuck! (remeber that you were told
    that the hide-out was "DEEP" in the spree river.)

    Any help or spoilers would be very much appreciated.

135.13Help I'm drowing in the SPREE RIVERCLOVE::KNIGHTTue May 08 1990 15:176

    The lasers from the hideout deep in the spree river keep killing me.

    Does anyone know how to pass this hideout in ACT III?

    If I remember correctly, I haven't played the game for a long while,
    I would run to the opposite side of the laser, turn and fire. I think
    what happens is that the laser initially points up. When you come into
    view the laser positions itself to fire at you. Before it gets a
    chance to set and shoot, I think you have enough time to get to the
    other side of the pedestal. This makes the laser head turn to the other
    side which takes time. I think there is enough time, if your timing
    is write, to blast enough rounds into it to destroy it before it has a
    chance to hit you.

    	Good Luck,

    	Waiting for the the next Golgo 13 mission Mafait Conspiracy
