53.0. "Okay-okay..where can I get one?" by JUNIOR::MONTVILLE () Tue Jan 26 1988 16:34

Hello to all you folks......I have read through this notesfile and
    find it more than interesting.

My dilema is...where can I purchase one of the (basic) systems now
and how much can I expect to pay for it ?

I am into sports...how is the Golf game? and the baseball game.
These are two games I would be interested in. I have read the reviews
on the "Mike Tyson" fight game and this would also be considered.

Any and all information would be appreciated.

    Hi Bob,

The last time I saw any decent amount of game systems was at the
Electronic Warehouse in the Pheasant Lane mall in Nashua. $79.99.
The full blown version, with Robot and Gun, is about $139.99.

I have golf and I love it.
    Other games I have are:

    Rygar - Great adventure game.
Top Gun - Great action game.
Ghost and Goblins - another adventure game..more difficult than
    Rygar.
Super Mario Bros - a really fun game for all ages.
Tennis - Good game, multiple computer skill settings, but you can't
play against anyone but the computer. The two player game is you
and your partner playing doubles against the computer.

Good luck finding one and have fun!

    Phil

I just got the basic system this week at Consumer's for $80
(cartridges are relatively inexpensive there too) - don't know
if they are up your way, but look, or else look for another type
    of "walk-in, catalog distributor".

Golf is fun, especially for real-life golfers. Strategies mirror
those out on the course. Only problem is that there is only one
    course!

Thanks to those that have responded so far. I called:

		Consumers in Medford
		    " in Peabody
		    " in Dedham
		Toys-R-Us in Manchester
		Kay-Bee in Natick
		   " in Burlington
		   " in Worcester
		Service Merchandise in Salem
		   " " in Manchester
		Lechmere in Manchester

The closest I got was Consumers in Medford that told me "We got a
ton of them in yesterday, but sold out within the hour". This is
	depressing :-(

53.12Did you try CaldorsJAGUAR::HARRISThu Jan 28 1988 00:3912
Have you tried Caldors(Fram/Natick Mall)? I got mine there two weeks
ago for $80.00 after looking for a few weeks. in all the area stores.
Another place that had them was Leiser |superstores| but they
wanted $100.00 I guess the superstore get super prices. But they
might have some of these high prices systems. I'll tell you I was
getting ready to spend the extra twenty before Caldors came through.

How about The Whiz in Westboro?

    If you're really hard up, call Video 2001 in California;
1-213-824-4737. That's how I got mine, way back before they were
popular or even in stores yet. Make sure they will ship it right away.
They ship UPS COD; it will take at least a week to get to you, and you
will have to have somebody at home with the money or call UPS to
arrange to have it held at their local office.

have you tryed Rich's in Haverhill? I got mine there a week ago
and they had 6-8 of them. Give them a call. If it's not in Haverhill
than try Methuen. Hope this helps.

Personally, I think this is Nintendo's ultimate adventure game.
I get the feeling this is the same as the Cabbage Patch Kids. For
the longest time, they were scarce. Now they're everywhere. In
a month or two, Nintendos will be stacked to the ceiling where
	once there were bare shelves.

I'm just gonna lower my "must get it NOW" level a bit and wait.
all the stores said they expected the units to come in mid to late
	February.

Thanks to everybody that offered suggestions.

								Larry

P.S.	Has the author of .0 had any better luck?
53.16I got one!!VAXWRK::INGRAMLarry IngramThu Feb 04 1988 23:0716
Well, guess what. Every night I pass the Stuart's in Fitchburg on
the way home from work. Every night I say to myself, "I wonder if
just maybe, they might have it". Every night I don't go in and I
forget to call. Last night I finally checked. They had 7 base
consoles! Not the cheapest at $90 but I've burned off more $ in
	gas and phone calls.

So if anyone is interested and is in the north-central Mass. area,
here's your chance. They've got 6 left and counting...

	I finally believe it's real!

Larry

P.S. If you do want to go there, It's on route 12 just outside of
	      downtown Fitchburg.
