38.0. "Double Dribble" by VINO::RASPUZZI (Michael Raspuzzi) Mon Dec 28 1987 12:30

Anyone else played with double dribble yet? I like this basketball
game in the arcade so naturally, I like the home version. There
    are only a few bummers.

    - When all players convene in a close area, the screen gets very
hard to see because the players fade in and out.

    - Extremely close shots sometimes miss. I can see missing from 15-20
feet but not from 4-5 feet.

    - The clock ticks when a ball goes out of bounds. It does not give
you a chance to setup a play.

Other than those items I really like this game and would give it an
8 on the 1-10 scale. There are 3 levels (1,2,3) and the computer
gets real tough to beat at level 3. I won at level 2 108-107 and
    it was quite the game.

Oh, yea, there is one other thing that irks me and it is the most
annoying thing of all. The computer is always the Celtics when you
play against it! That's no fun for us Celtics fans. In baseball
and soccer, the computer randomly becomes a team when you start
and if it is your team, you reset and start again. Oh, well.

38.1help on the right!!!PLDVAX::CHARRONMon Dec 28 1987 15:5911
Yes, I have. I got the NES along with Double Dribble for Christmas.
Generally speaking, I like the game but, I share some of your
complaints. My biggest problem with the game is, as your facing
the screen, the hoop on the right side is harder to score on as
opposed to the one on the left. The outside shots work great when
your shooting at the left hoop, but forget it on the right. Even
the short jumpers are hard to make say nothing about the slams!
Have you noticed this problem?? If so, how do you compensate for
    it??

When I start missing the short jumpers on the right side hoop, I
just keep banging away at them. I try to work the ball in for a
close shot or a slam to break the cold streak. Also, when I don't
get the rebound, I am usually good about anticipating my opponent
    and make a steal.

Slams are weird. You have to be careful to not go too far forward.
One way to avoid this is to try running from the bottom of the screen
upwar toward the hoop. This seems to be the best percentage slam.
It also seems to be the best percentage shot (from about the lower
right corner). Just don't go too deep into the lower right corner
or your shot will hit the side of the backboard.

I find that my 3-point percentage is about 1 out of every 4 or 5
attempts. I like burying the crucial 3 pointers late in the game.

Got DD for X-mas also. It's a fun game but has it's problems.
Once being that its toeasy to score and to ahrd to play defense. Once
you get the ball you can usualy start the fast break and end up with an
easy slam off the break, but it is fun...just not very realistic.

Actually the more you play the game the better you get on defense.
I switch up on defense by using the B button and steal the ball
with the A button. Switching on defense makes it much more difficult
for the offensive team to score those easy slams...

re: -2 I took your advice for scoring on the right hoop.. It works!
It's just a matter of finding the right spot on the floor to shoot
    from.

OK, Sound's like a good game so far!! But can someone tell me
if it can be played with two people against each other? My wife
    is getting tired of watching!!

Has anyone come across this problem?? I have only been able
to duplicate it twice, so I don't know EXACTLY how I did it. What
happened was the ball suddenly went flying to the right side of
the court and bounced off the wall, then the call out of bounds
was made. I remember pushing left on the controller and the a button
when it happened twice, and I wasChicago....

    Re .7:

Actually, I don't think you have found a problem. I have seen this
happen a couple of times and I have also seen it happen in the arcade
    version.

The scenario is something like the computer has an inbounds pass,
it brings the ball in and then proceeds to throw it the full length
of the court and out of bounds. I look at it as if I just put so
much pressure on the microprocessor that it threw the ball away
    (a turnover).
