13.0. "Point of interest" by CURIE::DECARTERET (Jason DeCarteret) Mon Nov 02 1987 21:30

The other day I was really bored so I decided to get a better
understanding for my Nintendo. Have any of you noticed that removable
lid on the underside of the system? Well I took that lid off and
I couldn't figure out why they would just have a piece of plastic
underneath it. I thought it would be just for ventilation of
something. "Nahhh" I though. So I took a screwdriver and pryed
the piece of plastic off. To my suprise I found a slot that could
accomidate a cartrige or some other pin-type connector. What does
Nintendo have in store for us? I thought about writing to the company
and requesting some more info but I wouldnt think that they would
tell me much. Does anyone out there have any ideas on what it might
    be used for?

I don't know how I missed that! I found the corresponding part on my
Sega. But I do know what it is for -- or at least one thing it is for.
How much is it worth to you?

In the original Nintendo note, one of our friends in Japan mentioned
that they have _disks_ there; you can buy a disk for more than a
cartridge but get them rewritten with new games much more cheaply.

I CALLED THE NINTENDO PEOPLE AND THEY SAID THE SLOT YOU ARE TALKING
ABOUT WILL BE USED FOR FUTURE ACCESSORIES. THEY ARE WORKING ON
ONE NOW CALLED "SAVE AND LOAD". IT IS LIKE THE BATTERY
IN THE ZELDA GAME. YOU WOULD LOAD YOUR GAME IN AND PLAY AND IT
WOULD SAVE THE GAME IF YOU WANTED TO STOP THE GAME AND PLAY IT
    LATER.

I don't think that it is such a good idea to have the cover over
the slot attached like that. Surely someone will end up breaking
    something inside.
I think it would be kind of fun working for Nintendo inventing
all these ideas. I could come up with a lot of things.
About reply 13.2. Do you know how it would save the games? I can't
    imagine anything at all!

To answer your question I don't know. I will give you the telephone
number to Nintendo when I get into the office on Monday

In case noone else noticed, the Excitebike and Mach Rider games
have Save and Load options that are "NYI".

On both cartridges I have not been able to load a saved track.
I just thought there was a flaw in the making of the cartridge.
Can you do a successful load the games?

    "NYI" means "Not Yet Implemented"
