2080.0. "LP for OpenVMS Alpha wanted." by SNOFS1::RASMUSSEN () Thu Mar 13 1997 22:44

I have a customer looking for a package for Linear Programming to run
under OpenVMS on Alpha. My search of the Web pointed me to:

    http://www.sto.dec.com/repository/doc/alpha/software/public/pvs_alpha_vms.txt

However, I have not been able to get to this site....not responding.

I would therefore appreciate some references to what are considered
reasonable LP packages for OpenVMS on Alpha.

    Regards and thanks

I'm sorry that I can't help on this one directly. I don't work on
    LP.

If I were you, I would try contacting one of the OpenVMS centres
that Digital has, where they do benchmarking. For instance, the Systems
Integration centre at Valbonne might be able to help out. I don't know
where the Asia Pacific equivalent is. [You're in Sydney, yes?]

The alternative would be to approach one of the accounts that might
be using LP heavily. The oil industry is the place that I would start.

The third suggestion is to look through lists of ISVs supporting
Open VMS. There must be some outfit producing mathematical software of
the kind that you're looking for.

Sorry again that I can't be more specific.

    Cheers,
    Andrew.

Will DXML (see reply 3.1 in the NICCTR::DXML notes conference)
        meet their needs?

also no direct help, but some pointers.

try the decus library. i think there are some LP programs there.
i have no idea how good or bad they are.

also try COSMOS. i'm not sure of the spelling.
it is a u.s. depository of software developed for various
govt agencies. it is in GA, perhaps at one of the big forts or U of Ga.
i think they had an assortment of optimization packages.

the software tools clearing house has pointers to other collections
of software. some of them might have what you need.

the vax software source book lists a couple, including IMSL which
was mentioned in a previous note. my copy is about 12 years old,
so i'll skip the contact info unless you ask for it.
i understand IMSL is highly regarded in the numerical analysis community for
the quality of their routines.

That system is back up now however the file you want is available directly
    at

    XLIB::USER3$:[ONLINE_CTLG.PUBLIC]PVS_ALPHA_VMS.TXT

which is probably better given that it is over 3MB of minimally
structured information i.e. not good for Web access.
