Hi,
Does anyone know what Dr. Rubik (of cube fame) has been doing since
1977? No, this is not a trivia question; I'm looking for info on his
background. Does anyone know or remember what his specialty is/was? I
seem to remember root theory.
We moved into a new flat this weekend and the landlady's name is Rubik.
When we asked if she's any relation and she said he is her husband. So, if
I bump into him at some stage I'd like to talk to him about something
interesting. My math degree ('74) is getting a little dusty to use it
confidently.

Erno Rubik was, at the time of the cube fad, an architect or mechanical
engineer of some sort, not a mathematician.

It doesn't matter, now. I spoke with our landlady last night and she
mentioned he "was" her husband, not "is". So I don't think we'll
actually meet.
Coincidently, there was something in the paper I saw yesterday about
Hungarian inventors and he was listed. Not quite as impresssive as
inventing bombs or sterilisation.

Perhaps you could solve it mathematically using group theory. Do you
