1696.0. "Crux Mathematicorum Problem 1783" by RUSURE::EDP (Always mount a scratch monkey.) Mon Nov 30 1992 18:13

Proposed by Andy Liu, University of Alberta, and Daniel van Vliet,
student, Salisbury Composite H.S., Sherwood Park, Alberta:

Dissect the figure into two congruent pieces:

    	    XXX
    	XXXXXXX
    	XX XX
    	XX XX
    	XXXXXXX
    	XXXXXXX

[Each X represents a unit square. -- edp]

What is your/the definition of "dissect"? I.e., straight line,
    differentiable curve, ... ?

    Re .1:

I bet the intended dissection uses straight lines, but failing that, I
would expect to get two closed, connected sets.

    	    XXX XXX
    	XXXXXXX OOOOOO X
    	XX XX OO O X
    	XX XX OO O X
    	XXXXXXX OO XXXXX
    	XXXXXXX OO XXXXX
