There are no plans to offer the 5 day "VAX Vector Processing for Programmers"
after the Q3. Our Vector Programming instructor, Sue Morrison, is leaving the
Training Organization. Sue will be delivering the course for customers
(EY-D561E-L0) in Parker Street (PKO) the week of January 20, 1992 and internal
people (EY-E197E-L0) in Marlboro (MRO2-LA) the week of February 3, 1992.
Internal people can attend the customer session if necessary. Sue has
delivered this course worldwide to employees and to customers in the U.S.. She
has received an internal average of 4.87 and a customer average of 5.0 (5.0 is a
perfect rating) from her students. Sue has spent the last year in the
Supercomputer Technology Center getting hands-on experience between teaching
assignments. She is leaving training to join the AI engineering group.

Action Required: Please pass this information on to your Sales, Sales
Support and Customer Services people. Account managers with Vector systems,
or planned systems, should pass this information on to their customers.

Audience: Worldwide Technical Product Instructors (Internal and Customer),
Sales Support, Professional Sales Support (PSS) and CSC Support.

Prerequisites: Students should have a working knowledge of FORTRAN
Application Programming, and Basic VAX Architecture (Exceptions, Basic
Architectures, Data Types). They should have some knowledge of using the
Debugger, VMS (Exception Handling), DCL, MACRO, numerical methods and matrix
  algebra.

  Course Description:

This 5 day course is designed for application programmers who will be either
porting existing FORTRAN applications or developing new FORTRAN applications
to run on one of Digital's VAX Vector Processing computers. Through lecture
and hands-on lab work the course will focus on:

o Supercomputing and Vector processing concepts
o The VAX implementation of vector architecture
o How to use the FORTRAN High Performance Option (HPO)
o Analysis of data dependences and restructuring of code for
            vectorization
o How VMS supports vector processing
o How ULTRIX supports vector processing
o Using the vector CASE environment development tools such as the
Analyzer (PCA), Language Sensitive Editor (LSE), DEBUG, and the
VAX Vector Instruction Emulator Facility for application
            development
o Introducing and using the Digital Extended Math Library
o Optimization processes and issues for Vector Performance
o Disk striping driver concepts for managing I/O

  Goals:

Software Support (PSS) and Sales Support Specialists attending will be able
to provide the technical expertise and analytical skills to:

o Answer customer inquiries regarding Vector Processing
o Answer RFI's and RFP's for Vector Processing Applications
o Gain the ability to analyze vector code.
o Gain a thorough knowledge of Vector FORTRAN Programming Techniques
and the architecture of competing vector hardware.
o Gain a thorough knowledge of Digital's products, applications and
            industry requirements for Vector Processing.

i cant see where it says how much is the course?
why is it the last one? does this mean that DEC is not putting as much
energy in Vector processing as befor ?
1531.2CHOVAX::YOUNGINSPECT: Ignorance=Security ???Wed Dec 18 1991 03:418
I do not know the answer to either question.

But I do know that enrollment for these classes is very low, which
means that if you want to you can certainly get in (Yeah!), and it
might also explain why more effore is not being made to keep it alive
    (boo!).
