I'd read and contribute to a PHYSICS notesfile.  Maybe we can host it.
Let me check with my systems manager.

We would need a charter that tries to avoid overlap with other existing
notesfiles (like SC, for example).

    I would certainly read and support a PHYSICS notesfile.  In fact,
    I've been considering starting one for some time now.  I've just
    recently changed jobs at DEC, and now that I'm no longer in a district
    run by stuffed business-suits, the possibility of getting the resources
    to start such a conference is a possibility.  I will check into
    this.

    I would be interested.  Also, it might be announced in the science
    fiction conference, NICLUS::SF.  Discussions have often cropped up
    there about relativity, propulsion, and so on.

    Wherever it is hosted, I hope the conference isn't too far away
    from a reliable router.  Those of us who have to access BULOVA
    are aware how painful it can be to deal with limited resources,
    flaky Ethernets, up-and-down routers, etc.
    
    I have a lot of questions to ask in this conference.

I've been informed by my systems manager that the compute and disk resources
are available, but that our site (BXB) is a bad candidate for additional
notesfiles because of limited network line capacity.

I must reluctantly withdraw the offer to host.

    Theorem: There is a difference between Math and Physics.
    Lemma 1:  Math contains 4 letters while Physics has 7.
    proof:  By math induction:  
         1. M is one letter.
         2. a is a letter
         Hence, Ma has two letters.  Similarly, (with some handwaving)
         we conclude that Math contains 4 letters.
         By the above work, we can easily show that Physics contains
         7 letters.
    
    Now to prove the theorem.  By lemma 1, there is a difference between
    Math and Physics Q.E.D

Is there any progress towards establishing this notesfile ?

Should I plead with my system manager again to allow it to be established
on our cluster ?

    I just took a look at the EASNETS list and found that virtually
    every non-computer scientific-oriented notes file (Astronomy, Biology,
    Geology, Meteorology and Oceanography) is on node LDP (does that belong
    to Laboratory Data Products?).  The only exceptions are this one and
    Psychology (which, last time I looked had very little technical
    content).  I imagine that the managers of the LDP node would be
    very sympathetic to a physics notes file.  Anyone have a personal
    contact there?

    I will secure system support for a PHYSICS notes file if:
    
    	1.) someone outthere can provide some help to the system manager
    		on getting NOTES installed on the cluster
    
    	2.) someone would co-moderate the conference with me....I don't
    		have a great deal of time to do it by myself.

         I would like to help.  On the other hand, I do not know how
    to install a  NOTES on a cluster.  Also, I am relatively new to
    DEC; hence, do not have any idea as to what is involved in becoming
    a moderator.  In any case, I am willing to contribute a reasonable
    amount of time for a PHYSICS notesfile
         By the way, where is your facillity located?

    According to the FINDNODE tool, node PHENIX is at site
    BXB in Boxborough, MA; the Mid-Range Systems Business Group.

         Are you in an AI group?  I mean LISP and AITG all sound like
    AI stuff.  I am a bit puzzled by ZFC though.  I mean ZF stands for
    Zermelo-Frankel(?), but what does that C stands for?  As a matter of
    fact, the first time I read it I thought it was ZFG
    (Zermelo-Frankel-Godel).  By the way, I am pretty interested in AI
    stuff.  I would like to meet you in person, and learn something
    about what DEC is doing in AI.  I am in MRO1. (By the way, what does 
    the TG mean in AITG?)

     Congratulations, by the way, you are only the second
     person to both figure out the node name and let me know.
     
     AITG is the Artificial Intelligence Technology Group.
     AITG is also our cluster alias, and LISP is our lavc's
     cluster alias.  I'm not sure what happens when the two
     clusters are merged/joined/whatever.  I used to NOTE
     from ZFC ("my" workstation) until the system manager
     rigged it to use the lavc cluster alias. :-(  Hence the
     personal name.  We are at DLB5 in Marlboro.

     It won't let me delete .-1 to add to it, probably the
     cluster alais problem.  I once saw ZF referred to as
     ZSF (S for Skolem).  You may have been thinking of BG
     or NBG (for Bernay, Godel, and von Neumann) for the G,
     but then again, I'm sure he contributed to both.  As
     for working in AI, I am a VAX LISP developer currently
     working on its editor.

    I read that the problems people have been having deleting notes,
    changing their titles, or setting up the little asterisk, are because
    node CLT is testing a new version of NOTES.

    Folks,
    	Yes, Ric Raymond is in Boxborough, Mid-Range systems group.
    Actually, I am an engineering manager in manufacturing....with
    assorted duties including advanced technologies.
    	However, I am trying to arrange for the PHYSICS notes file to
    reside on the Salem, NH (NIO) rather on the BXB cluster.  BXB is
    a "branch line" on the network while NIO is one of the main network
    nodes.  This will improve performance for world-wide access.
    	Will let you know about the progress of the file....should have
    it established by next week....if I can get out of some of these
    meetings.  I will announce the file here first.
