642.0. "<><><> How many did Cain fear? <><><>" by THEBUS::KOSTAS (Wisdom is the child of experience.) Tue Jan 06 1987 12:23

   There are some interesting applications of series on the 14th
   verse of the 4th chapter of Genesis. The King James Version makes
   Cain say:

      "... and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth;
      and it shall come to pass that every one that findeth me shall
      slay me."

   The question is this:

      How many did Cain fear?

   Most people who read this accound wonder why Cain should dread being
   killed, when it does not appear to them that there were any anhabitants
   on the earth at that time but himself and his parents. To correct
   this mistake, let it be observed that the death of Abel took place in the
   128th or 129th year of the world. Now, supposing Adam and Eve to have
   had no other sons and Cain and Abel in the year of the world 128, yet as
   they had daughters married to these sons, their descendants would make
   a considerable figure on the earth.
