587.0. "GO problem, May 1986 American Go Journal" by REGINA::OSMAN (and silos to fill before I feep, and silos to fill before I feep) Thu Sep 25 1986 15:14

Here's a Chinese go problem from the May 1986 American Go Journal.
I consider it quite hard, because even if you find the right answer,
you must check quite a few possible retorts to be sure.

                             - - - - - - - +
                             . . . . # O . |
                             . O . O # O O |
                             . . . O O # # O #=Black, O=White
                             . . O # # # O b
                             . . O a . # # |
                             . . . . # # . |
                             . . . O O . O |
                             . . . . . O . |
                             . . . . . . . |

    The text reads as follows:

    MORE PRECIOUS THAN GOLD

B to live. B may get an eye by playing either a or b, but there
is not time to make a second eye. They key is to use the two sacrifice
stones, and to consider B's relationship to the corner.
