536.0. "<><><> Lisped in numbers . . . <><><>" by KEEPER::KOSTAS (Kostas G. Gavrielidis <o.o> ) Sat Jul 12 1986 21:19

Hello,

I will reserve this note for a collection of verses of those
who tried to work their numbers into rhymes.

And I will start with the first one:

<<
And what are all these mysteries to me

Whose life is full of indices and surds?

2
x  + 7x + 53

11
= --
3
>>

That was from Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, author of "Euclid and his
Modern Rivals" and of "Alice in Wonderland"

Enjoy,

Kostas G.

There was an old Fellow of Trinity

Who solved the square root of oo ,

But it gave him the fidgits

To count up the digits

So he chucked Maths and took up Divinity.

A mathematician confided

That a Moebius band is one-sided,

And you'll get quite a laugh

If you cut it in half

For it stays in one piece when divided!

There was a young lady call Bright
Who could travel faster than light.
She went out one day,
In a relative way,

And came back the previous night.

I wonder if the cat on his ninth lap

(Eight lives expected) calcuates while purring,

"Eleven per cent is, roughly, what I've left;

What's gone is eighty-eight-point-eight-recurring."
