124.0. "Does anyone in DEC still publish" by SILVER::TURANO () Fri Aug 10 1984 12:55

Considering the amount of interest there seems to be
in mathematics around here, several of us were wondering how many people
actually do mathematics research around here (including recreational math)
and actually publish. This includes work related and nonwork related
interests. If you respond please submit a list of RECENT publications,
i.e. not stuff you did in grad school.

I haven't had any "real" publications, as in the form of articles,
but I am a fanatic problemist and contribute heavily to the problem
sections of various journals. Following is the list of problems of
mine or solutions to problems that I have had published between
June 1982 and June 1983:

Problem A-3. The AMATYC Review. 3(Spring 1982)52.

Problem 758. Crux Mathematicorum. 8(Jun 1982)174.

Solution to Problem 647. Crux Mathematicorum. 8(Jun 1982)177-178.

Problem 766. Crux Mathematicorum. 8(Aug 1982)210.

Solution to Problem 666. Crux Mathematicorum. 8(Aug 1982)222-223.

I know that several of our correspondents have published things
in the past. I occasionally run across references to articles
published by Lynn Yarbrough and John Hallyburton. [I hope they will
give us a bibiliography.]

Unfortunately, it's too easy to get deeply immersed in what we're
doing for DEC (like programming) and stop doing any mathematics
at all. I hope that this note file will help alleviate this
problem by giving ex-mathematicians some mathematics to play with.

We have been seeing some real good mathematics in here lately, and
I hope it might spur some of the contributors (like Gilbert) to
publish something.

Another possiblility is that we might hand edit this note file
at some time in the future and publish it as a DEC technical report,
in the same way that MIT published (that great classic) HAKMEM.

Also, I believe there \are/ some mathematicians officially working for
DEC that have published recently. Let's hear from them.

I graduated (Mathematics, University of Bucharest) in 1981 and published a
paper in 1992:

Une generalisation des theoremes de A. Froda et Yu. Y. Prokhorov concernant
les points de discontinuite de premiere espece

(A generalization of the theorems of A. Froda and Yu. Y. Prokhorov
concerning the first species discontinuity points)

Studii si Cercetari Matematice (Mathematical Reports), Tomul 4,
iulie-august 1992, Editura Academiei Romane, Bucuresti

(and isn't all this some mouthfuls?)
