605.0. "whole grain pasta... where?" by PAXVAX::MCGRAY () Fri Sep 14 1990 01:19

Hi there,

I am currently on a low-fat, low-sugar, low-refined carbohydrate
diet (no calorie counting at all, just eat right). It's working
great and I feel much healthier. I eat alot of whole grain breads
and cereals, which I love. Someone told me that whole wheat pasta
(the kind with no white flour in it, enriched or not) was good,
and it sounds like an alternative for spaghetti, which of course is
white flour based. The problem is I can't find any! I've looked in
all the big supermarkets (Purity, Victory, Sudbury Farms, Star)
and they don't carry it. Does anyone know where I can buy some?
I live in Sudbury.

Thanks!
Julie

Can't help you location wise as I'm in the UK, but wholewheat spaghetti
    is certainly available here!

    Julie,

Most (all?) health food stores will carry whole wheat pastas. In
fact, you will also find *artichoke* flour pasta!

My favorite is in Westboro, which really isn't that far from you.
It's called "Simple Enough", and is at the intersection of Lyman
St. and Rte. 9. That is the intersection that has on its four
corners a Burger King, Shell station, Mobil station, and a
building called "Factory Town, U.S.A.". Factory Town is where
simple enough is located. Park in the back. This is a *very*
small mall, with about 8 stores. "Simple Enough" is the size of
small grocery store, but it is pretty large for a health food
    store.

I have seen whole wheat pasta in some health food stores in the
Mass./NH area. I can't remember which ones though. Bread and Circus
(there's one off Route 9 in Brookline?, and also one in Cambridge)
    should carry it also.

I was going to mention the pasta made with Jerusalem artichoke
flour (Hi E Grace!). I live in Calilfornia so I can't tell
you where to purchase it in your area *but* I do highly recommend
    it. YUM!

Pinches and Pounds in Shrewsbury Village carries a couple types
of whole wheat pasta, too.

Hi,

I found a place... it's Concord Grains and Spices at
93 Thoreau street in Concord, MA.

I was in a rush, so I didn't get to look around at what
else was in there, but they did have wheat pasta.

Thanks!
