363.0. "Exercise Anyone?" by NHL::ARNO (I Owe I Owe so Off to Work I go) Tue Oct 11 1988 20:05

I would love to start exercise but because of my size
I need to do simple ones at first and build up.

Do you know of any classes that are for Obese People?

Or ones that are just for toning and getting you going ?

Are there any Videos that are good ?

    Any Ideas ?

    Ann

    Ann,
Have you thought of starting by walking or swimming on a regular
basis? Both activities are low impact, cheap, and walking at least
can be done anywhere. They are good for the getting started you
mentioned, good for aerobics, and they make you feel good without
    hurting.

	Walking is GREAT *aerobic* exercise.

If you take it up, buy a good set of walking shoes.

    	Rockport makes some good ones.

    Hi Ann,

As you are located in Nashua you might want to go sign up to use
the new life center in MKO1. They have stretch & flex classes which
would be good for someone like you. Also the exercise bikes and
the treadmills would be great for you to use. They are open til
7PM so you should be able to make use of them after work.

If you take up walking and decide to by Rockport Walking shoes,
which I heartily reccomend, you might want to try their Factory
Outlet Store on Route 85 in Marlboro, Mass.

I don't want to pour water on the walking idea, it is very healthy,
I had myself walking up to 4 miles each trip out to a total of 20
miles per week. I also own a well worn pair of Rockports. But...with
all the violent crime, woman getting rapped in parks (at least 8
or 9 this summer) a few murders. I gave it up. I have 3 people
in my house hold none will walk with me, I go too fast. I have
a huge 75 lb. dog who is a wimp. I have to keep other dogs from
picking on him, and everybody he sees is his pal. I am waiting
for winter to whip out my XC skies, the whole family skies and they
    don't mind going FAST!!!!
The only thing I HIGHLY recommended is find a walking partner, so
you'll be safe, and a good walking stick. If I knew where you were
I'd go with you in a minute. By the way Ann I've lost 65 lbs since
Dec 14, 1987 with 24 to go til I reach goal, and boy am I PHYCHED!!!
    Good Luck
    Elaine

I am positive that walking helps. When I was in the US for 3 weeks
in September I completely ignored my diet, I ate burgers, Hagen
Daz icecream, Mexican, you name it I tried it.

I also walks MILES everday sightseeing, and I came back the same
    weight I went.
