I assume from your intro record that you are in northern Mass....

Try Lady Paulines either at the TJ Maxx Plaza across from the Pheasant
Lane Mall in Nashua or across from the Mall of
NH near Filenes Basement in Manchester NH
    or

Plus Size in Burlington Mass on Mall Road across from the
                       Burlington Mall.

    or

Lane Bryant on the Pheasant Lane Mall

    or

Lerner Woman on the Pheasant Lane Mall

    or mail order.....

Johnny Appleseed has a new large size collection

also Spiegel just got into the large size business

....I get lots of these catalogs...seems the whole world went
into the large size fashion business just when started fitting
normal sizes.....be glad to pass these catalogs on since I don't
have any use for them anymore :)

Lane Bryant also has half-sizes in their catalog. Some of the stuff
is overpriced, of course, but they also have some serious sales. I've
been happy with the fit and quality of most of my purchases from them
(the dissatisfaction was from mismatched plaids, which they took back
    with no questions asked).

I'll post the address for their catalog in case anyone wants it
(assuming I can remember to bring it in!).

I've noticed that both TJ Maxx and Marshalls have fairly good sized
half size sections, and I know Marshalls is having their winter
    clearance right now....

I used to go to Women's World. I don't know whether that is a
nationwide chain or only West Coast, but they have a good selection
at reasonable prices, and really good sale prices.

I've also been to Lane Bryant, but their prices seem a bit high.
It's a good place to go for a "special occasion" outfit.

Plus Sizes has a good selection of casual and "working" clothes.

    Hope this helps.

Some people shop in 1/2 size shops because they are short,
or tall and some are short waisted..

I am short all over..At least I am the tallest of the Children.

We could have been great in the Wizard of OZ (-:

207.6There's more available now!CIMNET::WALKERWed Jan 27 1988 15:4330
Ann, I think I've been to every woman-size shop within 50 miles
of downtown Boston, and there are several more that have not yet
been mentioned. Some are really expensive, but you didn't qualify
what price range you were looking for. I'm delighted to see the
    variety of offerings available.

    1. T. Deane in Wellesley and recently opened in Chestnut Hill Mall
on Rt. 9 in Brookline--can be really expensive (for instance, they
have some cashmere and some suede, and lots of lovely Argenti silks.
I prefer the T. Deane in Wellesley because it is larger and has
    a basement with sale items.

    2. Bloomingdales in Chestnut Hill Mall - also can be very expensive,
    but not always.

    3. Jordan Marsh and Filenes. I prefer Jordan Marsh--I think their
commitment to style for +16 is better. If I was really interested,
I'd go to downtown crossing in center of Boston, but I have also
done well in Worcester and in Framingham.

I see some yummy ads from stores in New York City--would like to
    visit Forgotten Woman some day.

I also second some of the catalogs, in particular Spiegels. I just
ripped and order blank from my Spiegel's catalog--if you want it
send me mail--or you could call 1-800-345-4500. They charge for
this little catalog, but give you a merchandise credit.

Lady Pauline's in Nashua/Tyngsboro in the TJ Maxx Mall or up in
Manchester NH. I do a lot of shopping through Roaman's, which
    is women's and half-sizes - catalogue...

207.10One in ActonSTAR::YANKOWSKASFiddles and diddles...Thu Feb 11 1988 14:3018
Ran your question by my wife -- she seconded those who mentioned
Lane Bryant, and also mentioned a place called "That Woman" on Route
2A in Acton (not too far from WJO).

This topic reminded me of a story my wife told me, about the time
she and her mother were going shopping to pick out a dress for a
special occasion. My wife found something right away, but her mother
had a difficult time finding that outfit that was just right. My
wife asked (not in a malicious way), "How about checking out Lane
Bryant?". Her mother gave her one of those looks that could kill
and informed her, "I DON'T go shopping in FAT ladies' shops...".
What this story has to do with the original topic, I don't know,
but this seemed like as appropriate a place to tell it as any...

207.11a Lane Bryant anecdote...ARGUS::CORWINI don't care if I AM a lemmingThu Feb 11 1988 16:4817
re .10 and Lane Bryant:

I remember before I lost weight, I was feeling really discouraged about not
finding any pants I wanted in Jordan's Basement in my size (18 petite, sounds
like a contradiction!). I wanted the cheapest I could find, and didn't want
to hem them, since "I was going on a diet and wouldn't need them for long"
(I still buy petites, at least partially because I don't want to hem them :-)).

Anyway, I went into Lane Bryant, just to look around and see if they had
anything for me to buy. I was wandering around aimlessly, as I usually do
in clothing stores, and a salesperson came up to me and asked if they could
help me. I said I was just looking, or something like that, and she told me
I was in the wrong store! Maybe I should have felt complimented, but I
felt totally lost in the crack between "regular sizes" and "large sizes".

    Re: -1

That reminds me of the day I was shopping for a special dress in
Macy's. Having tried a size 14 and finding it too large, I asked
a sales clerk if she had a size 12. She said, "no, I meant to
tell you that you are in the wrong department."

Having just lost 30 pounds, I could have hugged her. It was the
biggest compliment I had ever received. I felt I had really
    succeeded.

    Re: .10

It's funny the perceptions people have. I once asked a friend,
a guy who wanted to lose weight, if he wanted to join Weight
Watchers with me. His answer was "no, I don't want to join the
    Fat Ladies Garden Club."
