It is good to have a partner but how about the snacking or
times in between? Have you looked in to a Weight Watchers
    class..

It is great to have a partner but I have learn noone can helo
you or make you lose weight, YOU have to do it.. and want to
    do it for YOU...

It would be nice if you could find someone that you could go
to a Weight Watchers class ..and then go over what you should
    eat..

I will wish you luck and if you need any YOU CAN DO IT !
    write or call me..

Take it from someone that needs to lose over 100 pounds...

I have lost 16 pounds but I did it by going to classes
and saying NO to things that I can't handle..

You made the first big step by writing..

172.2things to think about...ARGUS::CORWINI don't care if I AM a lemmingThu Dec 17 1987 13:3634
Dear .0,

I have a couple of things for you to think about...

Food doesn't come in only three "flavors", breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
You need to watch yourself all day. What about snacks? I think most of
us, even if we eat the right things at mealtime, wander into the kitchen (or
the cafeteria) between meals and have the urge (even if we don't indulge) to
eat something. We learn control, as well as other things, and that keeps us
honest (or close to honest :-)) both at mealtime, and between meals.

We're all here to support each other. Finding someone to share your meals
with you would be very supportive, and helpful too, as long as you learn how to
deal with food when you're not watched, because that's the way it's going to
be in the "real world". So, even if you can't find a dieting partner, lean
on us!

Another idea for you...Weight Watchers has a variety of "spas", where you can
stay for a week or two. They feed you properly (so you'll have a lot of
partners here!), you exercise, you learn good nutrition so you can continue
losing weight when you leave. It always sounded like a great idea to me.
Let me know if you want any more details.

By the way, I lost 35 pounds to get to my goal weight, and have been maintaining
it (well, mostly) for the past year. It took me a long time to get up the
"whatever" to really do it after fooling around and not getting anywhere.
But once I got going (summer of '86) I got there (Christmas/New Year's '86-7).

Weight Watchers At Work program in Marlboro is starting up soon, so if Hudson
doesn't have a program, join us.

good luck!
Jill

    > DO NOT LIKE EXERCISE BUT WILLING TO TRY.

Here's something you might try. Stand up. Put one foot in front
    of you.  Repeat for about 10-15 minutes.  Do about 4-5 times weekly;
gradually increase the time to 30-45 minutes a session.

Seriously, as far as exercise is concerned, walking is as good as
any other exercise and better than most.

As for the rest of your note, having a partner to do a weightloss
program with does make things easier. Not much more I can add that
hasn't been said and said well in .1-.4.

    Best of luck,
    Paul

172.6A few more tips...HPSCAD::DMCARRRaised on a PDP-9Fri Dec 18 1987 13:0130
    A few additional pointers:

o Choose a *particular* diet & make a promise to yourself to stick with
it. As with any major endeavor (& making the decision to change
your weight IS a major endeavor) you should do some initial research.
Go to the library, the bookstore, read as much of this notesfile as
you can & choose a diet that you feel you can live with & stick to.

o I think the main reason I was successful in my weight loss plan (40 lbs
using the Rotation Diet, discussed elsewhere in this conference), was
that I was mentally motivated to do it. I was on the diet for ME, not
because someone else put me on the diet or was watching over everything
I stuffed down my throat. You've made the first step by joining this
conference, its most definitely a great means of support. I'm not
knocking the "buddy system", but you've got to get it set in your own
mind that you're the only one who can convince yourself to stick with it.

o Regarding the walking which Paul brought up, by all means DO IT. Start
with short 15 minute *brisk* walks (no strolling here, you're not out
just to kill time, but to get your heart rate up), then work up to
longer walks (1/2 hr within 2 weeks, 45 minutes by 3 weeks). You'll
find that it sure doesn't feel like exercise. BTW, you shouldn't feel
tired after these walks, just invigorated. I suggest going at lunch
      time after eating.

Good luck & remember that we're all here for support if you need it.

172.7Partner by NotesKERNEL::LUCKHURSTYou Can keep the Change!Fri Feb 19 1988 10:1416
    Hello,

I'm in the UK so I can't watch over you, but boy do I need to lose
    weight - about 40 - 50 pounds.

If you haven't already found someone to partner you, how about"partner
    by notes".

We could decide a start date and keep in touch and encourage each
other. I know we'll also get lots of encouragement from other noters.

Let me know if the idea grabs you.
