921.0. "Ephedrine...will it work?" by POLAR::WAUCAUSH () Sat Aug 10 1996 17:42

Does anyone out there use Ehedrine?
Ephidrine is a traditional Chinese herb.
You take Eph. with coffee and a asprin, the Eph is a decongestant and
opens up your lungs, the asprin thins out your blood, the caffine
kicks everything into high gear and sends your metabolism soaring.

One of my team mates in hockey suggested it to me for game days.
I tried it and could notice quite a difference, it did'nt take as long
to catch my breath, and after the game I felt like I could still run 5
    kilometers.

I just went out and baught a bottle of the stuff and am about to start
using it with a exercise program. I am very excited about it as I am
    rather inactive right now.

I'll keep ya all updated to see if I threw my money out the window.

    Right now I'm 5'11", 220lbs and a 38 waist...here goes nothing!

Be extremely careful with Chinese Ma Huang.

The article below has a warning for both Chinese Ma Huang and the Kola
Nut together, however it is still being investigated on its own as
well. It was a topic of serious conversation when I attended an herbal
symposium last year. And since you are mixing the caffeine of your
coffee with the Ma Huang, you're essentially substituting that caffeine
for the caffeine of the Kola Nut, so be extra careful. Yes, it will
    work, but it's also risky.

The bottle you have should say that you should not use the product if
you are at risk for cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure or
especially pregnancy. If it doesn't say this, then it's being marketed
    by an irresponsible manufacturer, imo.

Beware This Diet Duo - Ma Huang and Kola Nut
    --------------------

The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers to be
wary of any product combining the Chinese herb ma huang and
the Kola nut. Ma huang is a source of ephedrine, an
amphetamine-like substance, and kola nut is a source of
caffeine. Products containing the two are often promoted as
    diet aids or energy boosters.

The FDA has received more than 100 reports of adverse effects,
including irregular heartbeat, heart attack, stroke, seizures,
hepatitis, and psychosis. Several deaths have also been
linked to the products, and the FDA maintains that adverse
effects can occur even at recommended doses.

Did you get positive results from Ehedrine?
921.3POLAR::WAUCAUSHWed Aug 21 1996 05:379
Well, I have'nt been on it very long yet and I only use it before a
work out. I have used it for hockey and have noticed a huge
difference. It does'nt take as long to recover from a good burst of
energy. To tell you the truth the reply with the warning kinda scared
me off it for about a week and a half. But after talking to more
people about it, I've decided to go on it again. Keeping in mind that
I've just started my program with it, I'm affraid the only good news I
have is that I have'nt givin up yet! Will keep you updated
