828.0. "Nordic Track Experiences" by POBOX::SEIBERTR () Tue Sep 21 1993 00:50

    Hi!! My husband and I are thinking about buying a Nordic Track.
    Does anyone out there use it? What do you think of it? Supposedly,
    it burns approx. 1100 calories in an hour workout.

    Thanks,
    Renee

    Never used one but my reaction was that it looked boring as hell.

    If I must sit inside on a machine instead of doing something outside
    and fun for my exercise, I want something where my arms are free to
    hold a book, so I can read and not get bored.

    Granted, holding a book provides less of a workout for my arms than
    nordic-trac, but if I couldn't read a book, then I wouldn't do it at
    all, and a partial workout is better than none.

    Your mileage will of course vary, depending on your tolerance for
    boredom. (Life would be easier if I even remotely enjoyed TV.)

828.2A "10++" on my scaleSOLVIT::TRUBACZTue Sep 21 1993 19:0027
    I've had a Pro350 for about 3 years now and it gets a lot of mileage.

    It's built up my stamina and endurance, it's helped develop my upper
    body and given more strength in my leg muscles. My husband used it to
    help him train for a 100 xcountry ski trek in Alaska.

    On the high or low side of activity this is excellent for everyone.
    People I know who have heart trouble, back trouble or knee trouble have
    found this a life saver. 10 minutes a day to a hour.

    The equipment is absolute quality and customer satisfaction is 100%.
    I called with questions from set up, noise or mileage. They called a
    couple months after to see if I were having any problems. As a result
    I received a new ski, and another follow up call.

    Bored??? NEVER.... in the coldest, snowiest, raniest, hottest days, I
    walk down stairs put on my favorite walking or aerobics music and off I
    go. As I'm moving, I visualize the fields Stefan and I crossed last
    year cross country skiing, and the quick lunch breaks in the warm sun
    of the winter.

    Or, I put a bicycle touring or walking tape in the VCR and go in search
    of rain forests.

    Do it, you'll never regret it....

828.3"Tracking" is great!SOLVIT::DUHAIMEWed Sep 22 1993 22:2215

    Here's another advocate of the Nordictrack. I have the Pro as well
    and use it 4-5 times a week for 45-60 minutes at a time. I love it!

    The quality is superior and it's a great workout. You need to
    stay focused {as with any type of activity} and it certainly helps
    to have your Walkman with you or a favorite TV program.

    Try to borrow one first and use it for at least 20 minutes so you
    can get a real understanding of the proper usage. It may not be
    for everyone but if you do like it, it's a great cardiovascular
    workout and does wonders for the waist and legs.

    Well, the hubby and I decided to go for it!!! We ordered the Pro--
    that seems to be a favorite, even the guy who took our order has it!!

    Patti, you actually do it for an HOUR?????!!! That's great!!!!
    I'm shooting for 10 min. my first couple of times!! We're going
    to plant it right in front of the tube. I usually make time to watch
    my favorite soap, so I intend on making that my workout time as well.

    Thanks for the responses both in the file and off line! It was great
    to hear from you.

    IMO. they're more fun than a lifecycle.

    Be prepared to feel clumsy the first time you use it.

    How much do they cost?
828.6"Great investment...I highly recommend it"ZMASK::GIRARDThu Sep 23 1993 19:3517
Hi,

I've have my Nordic Trak Pro model since October 1987. I
still use it 3 to 5 times a week. For a while I was doing
50-60 minutes, but lately only 30-40 (I find it hard to
schedule workouts in thesummer). Now that fall is here
I'll be back to using it lots.

I've had all kinds of memberships at health clubs, and
have spent money on different equipment. Nordic Trac
is the best money I've ever spent. I highly recommend it.

Two people I work with have bought one in the last month.

Good Luck, you'll love it.

    They're pretty expensive---which is why I asked about them in here
    first!!!!! The Pro is $599.95 plus shipping. I called Nordictrack
    at 800.328.5888. They want a credit card, but they will spread
    the payments over 4 months. Also, they are currently giving the
    computer which gives you your pulse, miles, and calories away free.
    It supposedly costs $150.00.

828.10I love my Nordic Track ProUNYEM::KOROLTue Nov 09 1993 16:0219
    I too have a Nordic Track Pro. My husband and I have been using it off
    and on for over 5 years. I have just gotten back into the swing of
    things and I'm using it 3 days a week for at least 20 minutes. It
    takes a while to build up to 30+ minutes, but I will get there. Also
    it's the only machine that I have used that really makes me sweat and
    when I'm done, know that I have gotten a great workout. I cannot wait
    to fix into my smaller pants by spring. I just put on my headset and
    listen to music as I exercise, it makes the time fly.

    I have had other exercise equipment in the past and this is the only
    machine I can say that I have used successfully - if I stop exercising
    for whatever reason (excuse), I have always gone back and starting using it
    again - once I get back into the routine of exercising, I cannot wait
    to get on it again.

    One year I wanted a exercise bike for Christmas, I got it - used it for
    about a month, hated it (it was soooo boring) we sold it by April.

828.11WALKFIT?USCTR1::BAKSTRANTue Nov 08 1994 18:399
    Anyone have a nordic walkfit. I love the workout, but the hippad
    is too close to the front and I can't get a good stride because
    my feet bump the front of the machine. Anyone else have this
    problem. I think the nordictrak hip pad moves in and out, the
    walkfit doesn't?
    Anyone else experience this?

    Thanks
