814.0. "Cindy Crawford Workout Tape" by WR1FOR::MEYERS_NA () Sat Jul 17 1993 02:07

    Hi,

As anyone else out there used Cindy Crawford's Shape Your Body
    Video Tape?

It is not an aerobic workout but it is a total toning workout.
Cindy shows how to do the exercises with her personal trainer,
    RADU, showing proper form, etc.

I supplement this with walking at lunch or another aerobic tape. I
have been using the video since early March and feel much better about
myself than I used to (although the weight has not changed much but
    has been replaced by "muscle").

There are 2 regular workouts on the tape and you do these workouts
on alternating days. There's a 10 minute mini-workout at the end
but since I do the regular workouts daily, I never bother with
that (but it is probably good if you are stretched for time).

I didn't really like Cindy Crawford that much BEFORE I bought this
video but have changed my opinion of her. I used to think that
some people were just "lucky" to have great shapes but this tape
made me believe EVERYONE needs to work out.

The only part of my body that has been really tough to tone is my
stomach (and there are alot of stomach exercises!) so maybe it depends
on your body type and how it responds to exercises.

I never have to worry about flabby arms any more - I used to dislike
my upper arms but now since they have a lot of muscle tone I like
wearning tanks and skimpy tops (and I have just enough muscle tone -
    not like a body builder!).

I might not ever have the body that I want but I believe with this
tape and aerobics I can have the body that's just right for me.

Here's to you Cindy and RADU!

Thanks for letting us know about the tape. I was put off by the tape
(I haven't seen it) because "she's a model, has a great figure, etc
etc" In other words I prejudged the tape and haven't heard anyone
express their opinions about it. I may go rent it later.

The tape has received negative reviews by all the "experts."

    The moves are dangerous.

"Shape" magazine rates tons of videotapes (I think they do it annually
in the January issue...I'll have to check my library 8^) ) and they
gave it very bad reviews...as -.1 said, a lot of the moves are done
incorrectly and can be very dangerous. You might want to check out
Shape's annual review for their comments; I found them very useful.

It is indeed the Jan. 1993 issue of "Shape" that has the fitness video
review. They give Cindy Crawford/Shape Your Body Workout With Radu
an overall rating of F+ 8^) The following is reprinted without any
        permission whatsoever:

Cindy Crawford/Shape Your Body Workout With Radu

        Total-body toning with hand weights
If you want to sit on your couch and remind yourself that Crawford is
gorgeous, sexy and charismatic, buy this tape. If you want a workout
of any significant value, don't. Crawford generally uses terrible
form to demonstrate risky, ineffective moves, and she doesn't seem to
understand the word "aerobic." her trainer, Radu, fails to provide
even the most basic safety or alighnment cues.

Generally they give high marks to Cher, Karen Voight, Kathy Smith,
the Weight Watchers Series, Candace Copeland, and Jane Fonda.

I usually take everything I read with a grain of salt, but Shape is
a fairly reputable magazine and generally gives what seems to be
        sound advice. Just be careful.

        Have fun!

I having been using this tape also for a long time and I think
    it's great!

I don't care if SHAPE rated it bad or not - you have to use the
tape for yourself and judge it. My body shape has improved
drastically and I don't find anything "DANGEROUS" about the
exercises - these are "classic" exercises that work!

    Just my opinion...

    Hi,

I have been working out with the Cindy Crawford workout tape for
approximately 4 months. The results have been amazing. I have never
been so toned in my life. I started noticing improvements after about
2 weeks. I enjoy the workout and have stuck with this tape much longer
than any other workout tape. There are 2 workouts (approx. 45 mins.
each) which you alternate to work different muscles and to give the
muscles you used the day before a rest. There is also a 10 min.
workout at the end in case you don't have time to do the whole workout
one day. I enjoy everything about the tape including the music Cindy
    and Radu.

Just last week, I went on a water skiing trip and haven't seen some of
the people for a year and many of them noticed or commented on my
improved shape and firmness. I can only contribute this to my
consistently using the Cindy Crawford workout tape. When I see and
feel this kind of result, I really don't care what Shape or any other
magazine has to say about it.

I was skeptical of it when it first came out because I thought "Oh,
it's just another bimbo workout". But now I'm glad I kept an open mind
    and tried it out.

No offense intended to anyone here, but unless you are
trained to understand what is "unsafe" about an exercise,
you're not likely to believe an exercise is dangerous.

"Feeling" safe is not an indication. An exercise that is
unsafe or contraindicated won't necessarily cause an immediate
injury, but can do enough gradual damage to cause you to have
an unexplained injury weeks or months later.

I have not seen the video, but all of the literature I've
	read rates it as unsafe.

BTW, you can still "get results" from the workout, the question
is, what is the long term price ?

Well, to be fair, most of the IDEA and AFFA "unsafe" exercises can be
safe, if you're in good health and good shape.

But, you can do them for years, never getting hurt, when, one day ...
yeOOWCH! Yes, they err on the cautious side, but there's a reason for
    that.

	Mike,

I'll agree, these organizations tend to be very conservative,
especially AFAA, but what I have found is that you can get a
very effective, very fun workout using conservative exercises.

Also, for a video for the general public, I believe conservative
is best. In a studio or one-on-one situation, you can better
gauge the ability of the students to perform more advanced moves.
