707.0. "Fit for Life" by DPDMAI::HUDDLESTON () Sat Dec 14 1991 01:00

    Ok, I want to know why (in notes 180 and 460) that someone thinks this
    book is a scam. Explain why you think this. Except for the fact that
    you probably should eat a few dairy products, I see nothing wrong with
    the books concept.

    The previous notes were written a long time ago. Anyone for fresh
    idea's.

    Funny you should single this out, the only dairy products
    I need to consume is Ben & Jerry's Ice cream and if my very
    healthy Yoga friends were to have their way I'd not even have that!

707.2Who needs Dairy products?MCIS2::SCHULMANSANFORDMon Dec 23 1991 16:546
    Why do you need dairy products? We need calcium, but animals, once
    weaned never have any (save cats - something we do for them?) There are
    some schools of thought that believe dairy products may in fact be
    detrimental. Ask the many people who have no lactic tolerance.

    I guess I mentioned the dairy products for two reasons. The previous
    notes mentioned in my orig. note, and because I have always heard that
    you need calcuim. Can you get that from other foods besides dairy
    products (ie milk)

    Well, I did the paper a long time ago, but I can that the food
    food combinations the author suggested were not based on fact.
    With only a few exceptions, if you eat a balanced diet, with
    all foods in moderation, food interactions are too trivial to
    even measure.

    If you would like, post some of the lists of foods that the author
    claims interact - and at what times in the day they cause problems,
    and I will address that.

    Basic nutrition concepts and human physiolgy haven't changed much
    in the last few years. I hope you don't assume that something has
    been discovered to vindicate Fit For Life, because it hasn't.

    It was then, and is still, flawed.

.2>                         -< Who needs Dairy products? >-

    No one needs dairy products, not even babies. There are always
    alternatives that will supply the necessary nutrients. For example,
    you could get all the calcium and vitamin D you need from proper
    food selection and adequate sunlight.

    Should you give up dairy products? Unless you have lactose intol-
    erance, or object to foods with an animal original, no. Milk happens
    to be a very good source of easily assimilated calcium.
707.6It works for me !!!JUNO::JUPPWed Mar 04 1992 18:0318
    Well I will add, that I have been following Fit for Life for almost 2
    years. I have never been a big Dairy product eater, and I must say
    that the only side effect I seem to have "suffered" is that I have
    almost got to my "Ideal" weight.

    I have just got over a bout of Flu at Christmas, and that has been my
    only illness in about 6 years.

    I don't follow the book to the letter, by try to live by the
    principles. Quite often the canteen food just makes it impossible to
    follow the book (unless you want salad every day) so I when that
    happens I have whatever I fancy.

    Remember, they say in the book, that you can take it as seriously or as
    lightly as you like, the only thing that alters is the rate at which
    you loose weight.

    Cheers Ian...
707.7FIT FOR LIFE, thankyou.CTOAVX::CRONKWed Feb 10 1993 17:044
    Thanks for the message Ian. One of these folks sounds like he
    represents the U.S. Dairy Council. I have just started the program.
    Early weight loss is rapid. The program is easy to manage even when
    you travel.
