I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAS LOST PROBABLY 200 LBS IN MY LIFETIME
ONLY TO GAIN IT BACK IN A YEAR OR SO AND THEN SOME. I AM GOING TO

LBS.- BUT ALONG CAME THANKSGIVING, 2 WEDDINGS IN DECEMBER, CHRISTMAS,
NEW YEARS AND A 2 WEEK VACATION IN FLORIDA DURING FEBRUARY. NEEDLESS
TO SAY, I HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN. SUMMER IS FAST COMING - GOT
A 2 WEEK TRIP TO SAN FRANCISCO COMING UP IN JULY SO I THOUGHT I'D SET
MY GOAL TO HAVE 20 POUNDS OFF BY THEN......ANYBODY GOT SUGGESTIONS ON

I find travelling and weight consciousness very difficult to combine.
Restaurants can be a hit or miss. What works for me is to go to a
grocery store and buy a whole load of fruit, some of which I take
everywhere I go. It keeps the nibbles at bay. Also, if I think
that I'm heading to a restaurant where the selection doesn't favour
slim bodies, I may eat an apple right before I go; less hunger to
feed with the high-fat foods. I also carry crackers since I just
love carbohydrates. BTW bananas, kiwis and any other soft fruit
tend to mush in with your camera so buy things that travel well or
eat them first.

One trick before entering a restaurant is to read the menus that
they post outside (or ask to see one inside). If you can't find
one or two things to suit your needs, leave and find a restaurant
that does.

Have fun in sunny Cal

Travelling and weightloss are very difficult without some kind of
physical and emotional planning. The fruit idea is great, but don't
stuff yourself. Too much of anything is not a good idea. The grocery
store carries the bags of already prepared veggies, i.e. carrots, that
are handy and bite size. When ordering in one of California's many
wonderful restraunts, remember to order meals that are somewhat lower
in cal. than others, that don't have heavy sauces, and that are
prepared with lots of vegetables. The key to success is in your mental
attitude not your appetite. If you can cut your portion by 1/2 before
you eat any of it, have the waitress/waiter put it in a take-away
container and save it for another meal. After you have eaten what you
feel is a safe quantity, and remember to eat slowly, crumple up your
napkin and put it on top of your plate. What you don't see won't tempt
    you.
Hope this is helpfull to you. I always carry my water bottle with me
when I travel in the car, so I am not always hungry.

    Bon Voyage.....Phyllis

655.4Don't forget to exerciseRUSTIE::NALEExpert Only: I'll do it anywayThu Mar 21 1991 19:208
Another important key to weightloss is exercise. The easiest and
most "portable" form is walking. Being in a new place, walking is
a great way to do some exploring. Also, lots of hotels have
exercise rooms and pools. Take advantage of them!

	Good luck!

655.5Exercise is my KEY!EARRTH::WORRALLTue Apr 02 1991 22:0910
I can only stress the exercise part. I have recently lost 30 pounds
over a 12 week time frame. The most important factor in losing or even
the weeks that I dont lose or gain is simply - EXERCISE. I walk 3
miles a day 4 to 5 times a week. I eat very well as far as I am
concerned. I have 3 very small meals and pick every once in a while.
But exercise is my KEY to my weight loss. I have lost 30 pounds and
have 20 pounds to go. Exercise has changed my life completely!

San Francisco in July is NOT warm and sunny...it is cold and foggy.
Other parts of the Bay Area get sunshine in the summer...but not the
    City itself.

BTW, you can get a GREAT salad in almost any restaurant in the state of
California. Just remember to order salad dressing on the side. 8-)
