632.0. "Mother-of-the-Bride" by DASXPS::MREX () Thu Jan 03 1991 22:59

Happy New Year, my name is Myrna Rex and I work at Das in Andover, Ma.
I need a kick in the rear to get started again, such a frustrating job
it is to lose weight particulary when you love to eat. (My Problem!!)
I will be the mother of the bride at the end of June and need (and
want) to lose weight for the wedding. I would like to surprise my
daughter with a slimmer and trimmer mother.
I need to lose about 70 pounds and I know that is a big goal to do in
six months and I do not want to think so far in advance. Any weight
that I lose between now and June will be a help.
I am considering WW again (I did lose 80 pounds about 8 years
ago) or perhaps Jenny Craig. Any word about the new WW program?
Right now I am cutting back on my downfalls, potato chips, soda,
hamburgers, food in general. I am trying to aquire a taste for diet
soda, elimanating the buns from the hamburgers and not coming anywhere
near potato chips or fries. These are by far my worst downfalls, I can
leave sweets alone but do enjoy "FOOD".

To A Slimmer and Trimmer New Year.

632.2I know what you mean...FDCV14::WHALENThu Jan 03 1991 23:2937
    Hi Myrna

I just joined WW (my first time) and today is day 1. I am 50 lbs
overweight (my god, how did I ever let it get so out of hand?!) and I'm
    sick of it.

I have succesfully lost weight in the past (35 lbs) doing it
"on my own" by just eating right, but I always eventually gain it
all back. People start telling me how great I look and I think
to myself "I can have that pizza if I want". Well, that 1 piece
of pizza becomes a bag of chips, a muffin, candy, etc. etc. and
before I know it, I've gained back all the weight I lost.

But not this time!! The new WW program looks great. As an example
here is my menu for today (Day 1):

Breakfast: 1 WW Yogurt, 2 diet breads (dry), 1/2 skim milk

Lunch: Large Salad, 3 tps salad dressing, pita bread, 1 apple

Dinner: 4 oz stir fry chicken w/peppers & onions, 1 cup carrots,
3 oz potatoe, 1 slice diet bread

    Snack: 1 orange

Now when I look at that I have to say, that's a pretty good amount
of food!!! This is how I SHOULD be eating all the time!!

As for Jenny Craig, I've never done it, but my friend did it and
lost 40 lbs and she looks great. The only thing about Jenny Craig
is that it is too expensive for me ($80 to join, then an average
of $65 a week for food). I just can't afford that.

Well Myrna, I wish you luck in losing the weight - I KNOW we can
    BOTH do it!!

    70lbs in 6 months is entirely possible - I lost 110 in 6 months.

    Hard but worth it...

632.4Nutra System worked for meWMOIS::BARDSLEYFri Jan 04 1991 15:2326
I resently needed to lose 50 lbs and had a hard time deciding what was
the right diet for me. I checked out a lot of different plans and had
also been sucessful on WW before. I choose to join Nutra System. This
diet is a bit more expensive then WW because you have to pay for your
weekly meeting all up front. I know that some centers are offering a
great price of $189.00 to join right now and that is the cheapest you
will get it. Depending on how many calories you are put on will depend
on your weekly cost and some centers are cheaper then others. You also
see a nutritionist every week and attend a behavior class for 1/2 hour.
In about 16 weeks I took off 36 lbs and then decided to quit smoking
too, so my weight losses since that time have slow down but I
expected that. When you have reached you goal you them attend different
classes that teach you how to maintain you weight loss. I haven't
reached that part of the program yet but I'm not far away from it.
What I like about the program at least at the center that I go to is
how they really care and help you stick to the diet every week. I you
have a bad week as I did over the holidays they will call you and see
how your doing and ask you need any help getting through the week. I
think support like that will help anyone become sucessful. I hope you
find the right diet that will work for you whatever the diet may be. I
you need some extra support just drop me a note on wmois: bardsley.

    GOOD LUCK

    Sandi :)

I cannot believe the quick response that I have gotten to my note.
Sometimes I feel that I am the only one with this problem (even though
I do know that this is not the case.) I am to new to this notes file
having just recently found it, and I am sure that I will read it very
    carefully.

Thanks to all of you for your interest.

    Myrna,

First Congrats on your daughter's wedding. Second, you sound alot like
me with our red light foods being similar. I just can not get away
from the chips. However, I have lost 12 lbs on WW over the last 12
weeks and have been able to have my chips. WW really helped me gain
and maintain the motivation I needed to keep it up.

Just a few hints with your food choices. One thing you really should
do is try to cut out as much fat as possible. I am sure you have heard
this a thousand times, but I was really amazed at how much better
    I felt once I started eating a low-fat diet.

Best of luck in whatever method you choose!!
