623.0. "how to deal with The Eating Season!!" by LUNER::MACKINNON () Tue Nov 27 1990 20:22

O.K The holiday season is officially here. I for one am having quite
a time watching what I eat. It is not the quantity that gets me, but
the types of foods. At Christmas, there are several types of cookies
available at my Mom's (where I spend the entire day with the family).
These cookies are great, and they are only made at Christmas. I love
them and do not want to not eat them. I can only eat just a few and
be happy with that. However, they are loaded with calories.

I have been on WW for the past 9 weeks and have lost 10 pounds total.
Luckily I was able to maintain my weight over this past holiday weekend
even though we ate out every night at various friends and relatives
    homes.

How do you deal with the Eating Season? I am not going to deprive
myself of the once a year treats, but I do not want to have to pay
for them later!! Mom too has been on WW, and together we have
experimented with changing the recipes to make them less fattening,
but the taste factor suffered from our attempts. HELP!!!

    Michele,

Isn't it soo hard around this time of year? I am the one in our house
who HAS to make all the Christmas cookies; it's such a tradition that
it really would break my dad's heart not to make them. So of course I
make all the favorites and there they sit in front of me. Oh but I
don't (DO!) want to eat them!

I guess there are no solid answers - just do whatever works for each of
us. I happen to make just enough of my very favorite kind to provide
for my parents and brothers to get a bunch and that's it - none left
    for me!

    Sigh.
623.2How about freezing some?..... AKOPWJ::LANEHe's a cold hearted snake....Thu Nov 29 1990 20:3114
Hi Michelle,

I don't know if this will work for you but I do have an idea. Why don't you
limit yourself to whatever cookies you can eat under optional calories for
the week. Then, take some more cookies home and freeze them. That way you
can just have a couple of week and you're not missing out.

Good luck I know it's hard. I just started doing WW (unofficially) again on
Monday with my sister. At the holiday's I'm the one that does most of the
baking, mum makes all the "good for you" food. So, maybe I can limit what
I make. One thing I do is make stuff that I don't like, that way I'm not
tempted to eat eat.

    re -1

It really isnt a problem with the quantity. I plan on eating a few of
each type. Just that each one is loaded with sooo many calories.
It is quite overwhelming at times.

    Michelle,

You know, it really sounds like you've got this under control. You've
thought it out, you acknowledge the inherent difficulty of the season,
you feel comfortable with portion control... So pat yourself on the
back. Now, stop worrying about the calories (as long as you keep doing
portion control). Don't create problems for yourself! (I am guessing
that this is what you are doing b/c that's what I do to myself.)

    Continue with your success!! Kay
