HELLO DIETERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over the past year I have lost almost 40 lbs. and I can say that most of the 
help was from Slim-Fast. I did not know if it would work but I tryed it anyways.
I am not a very big breakfast eatter anyways so I would drink a Slim-Fast for
breakfast and than usually for lunch.  For dinner I would plan to eat a lot
but after not eatting anything all day I could not eat that much.  Sometimes
I would have a little something to eat during the day.  And of course on the
weekends and holidays I ate and drank a bit, well...sometimes a lot!!!

The weight came off slow but this way I am hopping to keep it off.  This summer
I hardly drank Slim-Fast and I did not gain more than 5 lbs all summer and have
already lost it.  I am back to drinking the Slim-Fast for breakfast, not lunches though
I also joined a health club which I haven't done for 2 years.

Has anybody else had any experience with Slim-Fast? Good.? Bad?

I have a list of recipes from Slim-Fast of different things you can make with
the powder.  They are all not shakes either.  If anyone is interested I will
add them into this file tomorrow, I will probably add them even if no one is
interested.  They may surprise you!!

I have also been experimenting with slim fast for most of this
last summer.  I was about 20 pounds overweight mostly due to the
normal effects of getting older.  Some of it though came from
being the family garbage can and eating the stuff the kids don't
want when we go out to dinner, or otherwise cleaning the plates. 
This has been a *very* difficult habit to break since I learned
it from my father -- 'nuff said.

I've tried exercise, since I have been an enthusastic runner in
the past, but found that I was working much too hard for too
little results.  I always knew that, and have often said that the
best weight loss exercise is pushing the plate away...but I had
to try just to be sure.  For the record, I've found that unless I
do 20 or more miles a week exercise is worthless for weight
control.

I eat a small breakfast, usually no more than a bran muffin, then
have a slim-fast for lunch, and a normal dinner.  I even have
some low-calorie ice cream (actually yogurt) to take care of the
sweet tooth.  So far I've been losing about 1/2 to 3/4 pounds a
week when I don't blow it.  I started at 172, my weight this
morning was 162, and I'm going for 150.

Blowing it usually happens on weekends when we go out for dinner,
as I mentioned above, or when I nibble during the day.  But all
in all, its been relatively painless.  I also carry around a
large water cup and drink it constantly during the day. I like to
fill the cup halfway or more with ice cubes then pour in the
water.  The colder the better!

On my slim-fast routine.  I have a small rubbermaid container
that I use to carry the slim-fast from my desk to the lunch room.
I buy a small container of skim milk or low fat if the skim is
gone and fill the slim-fast shakeer cup with it.  Then I throw in
an ice cube and the contents of the rubbermaid container.  Cap
the shaker and mix it up on the way to my seat.  Then I let it
sit for a few minutes and drink it slowly.

I detail this routine because its carefully done and very
important.  I don't want to think about what I'm doing, I just
want it to be a part of my life.  The less I think about it the
better it works, if you know what I mean.

The ice cube is important because slim-fast is best the colder it
gets.  It also helps in the mixing action.  Also important is
adding the slim-fast to the milk rather than just the opposite
this being the reason for the rubbermaid container shuffle--- you
ladies are probably smiling over my ignorance of this point, but
it was quite the discovery for me!

The only bothersome side effect of this diet is that it seems to
encourage "excessive flatulence" when its really doing its thing.
Its embarrasing, but I always remind myself that each toot brings
me closer to my goal!  I think the flatulence is a side effect of
the milk, but I don't know since I've never been a milk drinker.

So far I'm down about 10, and have been stuck there for several
weeks because of various things.  But I'm in for the long haul,
which is the only way it should be.  Another 5 pounds or so and
I'll probably do a little jogging, though the 3 or so miles I'll
be doing at first is peanuts for taking off the weight.

    HOT CHOCOLATE:
    1 heaping scoop Chocolate Royale Ultra Slim-Fast
    8 oz. nonfat milk
    1 teaspoon cocoa powder
    1/8 teaspoon non caloric sweetner
    
    combine ingredients in blender and blend for 40 seconds.  Transfer to a
    microwave 2 minutes on high power or...pour into a small saucepan and
    heat on low until hot, stirring occasionally.
    
    CHOCOLATE MOUSSE
    1 Packet of unflavored gelatin
    8 oz nonfat milk
    2 teaspoon cocoa
    1 heaping scoop Chocolate Royale Ultra Slim-Fast
    2 packets non calorie sweetner
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 medium egg white
    1 pinch of tartar
    
    1.  Pour 1/4 cup of milk in a small saucepan then sprinkle gelatin on
    top and let sit 1 minute.  Heat over medium-low until gelatin
    dissolves. In a blender mix the rest of the milk, cocoa, Slim-Fast,
    sweetener and vanilla until smooth.  Add the dissolved gelatin and
    puree again for 10 seconds.
    2.  Transfer blender contents to a bowl and place in the freezer for 25
    minutes to set.
    3.  Beat the egg white until foamy with a hand or a electric beater. 
    Add the cream of tart and continue beating until stiff.  Fold egg white
    into the chocolate mixture, then transfer to a serving dish or parfait
    glass.  Serve immediately.     
    -246 Calories
    
    CHOCOLATE MINT SHAKE
    1 Heaping Chocolate Royale Ultra Slim-Fast
    8 oz. nonfat milk
    3 drops mint extract
    2 ice cubes 
    1/2 teaspoon cocoa powder
    1/2 packet non calorie sweetner
    
    Blend all ingredients together in blender for 40 seconds
    
    CHOCOLATE FUDGE POPS
    1 Heaping scoop Chocolate Royale Ultra Slim-Fast
    8 oz. nonfat milk
    1 teaspoon cocoa powder
    1 packet non calorie sweetner
    4 ice cubes
    
    1.  Blend all ingredients together in blender for 40 seconds.  Pour into
    3 four ounce paper cups or plastic popsicle molds.  Insert popsicle
    sticks when pops are half frozen.  Let freeze completely.
    2.  To unfreeze, peel away paper cup or run warm water on the outside
    of the cup or mold.
    Makes 3-4 oz pops
    
    PINA COLODA
    1 Heaping scoop French Vanilla Ultra Slim-Fast
    1/2 teaspoon rum extract
    3/4 teaspoon coconut extract
    8 oz. nonfat milk
    9 ice cubes
    1/4 cup fresh or canned pineapple chunks, no sugar added
    1/4 banana
    
    blend all ingredients together in blender for 40 seconds
    239 calories.
    
    MIXED BERRY SMOOTHIES
    1 Heaping scoop French Vanilla Ultra Slim-Fast
    8 oz seltzer water
    8 oz. low fat mixed berry yogurt
    
    Blend all ingredients in blender for 40 seconds.
    - 331 calories
    
    STRAWBERRY RASPBERRY SMOOTHIE
    1 Heaping scoop Strawberry Supreme Ultra Slim-Fast
    1/2 cup fresh or frozen raspberries (no sugar added)
    8 oz. nonfat milk
    6 ice cubes
    1 packet non calorie sweetner
    
    Blend all ingredients together in blender for 40 seconds.
    
    STRAWBERRY FROZEN YOGURT
    1 Heaping scoop Strawberry Supreme Ultra Slim-Fast
    1/2 cup nonfat yogurt
    3/4 cup frozen unsweetened strawberries
    2 packets non calorie sweetner
    9 ice cubes
    
    Blend all ingredients in blender for 40 seconds.  Serve immediately or
    transfer to a metal bowl and freeze 1/2 hour.

    re: .1 "excessive flatulence" - you are correct.  It's the milk.  I've 
    never been much of a milk drinker either - but about a year ago, when I 
    was trying various diet drinks, I discovered that I am lactose
    intolerant.  So I now buy the lactose drops at the drug store - its
    over-the-counter -- and put the drops in the milk (5 per quart) let it
    sit for 24 hours, then the milk is fine.  Still tastes good - use it in
    cold cereals as well as drinks.  By the way, I use the 1% fat milk -
    somehow skim milk is just watery.

    Here are some more recipes:
    
    CHOCOLATE PUDDING
    1 Heaping scoop Chocolate Royale Ultra Slim-Fast
    8 oz nonfat milk
    1 packet unflavored gelatin
    1/2 teaspoon cocoa powder
    
    1. Sprinkle gelatin on top of 1/4 cup of milk in a small saucepan.  Let
    sit 1 minute for gelatin to soften.
    2.  Place over medium heat and stir mixture until gelatin dissolves.
    3.  In a blender combine the remaining 3/4 cup milk with the Slim-Fast
    and cocoa, blend for 10 seconds.  Add the gelatin mixture and blend
    again for 30 seconds.  Transfer to a bowl.  Refrigerate for 1/2 hour.
    4.  Before serving stir vigorously with a spoon.  Transfer to a serving
    dish and serve.
    
    MOCHA WHIP
    1 Heaping scoop Chocolate Royale Ultra Slim-Fast
    8 oz nonfat milk
    1 teaspoon cocoa powder
    1 packet non calorie sweetner
    1 teaspoon instant coffee
    6 ice cubes
    
    Blend all ingredients together for 40 seconds
    
    CAPPUCCINO BRANDY SHAKE
    1 heaping scoop Chocolate Royale Ultra Slim-Fast
    1 teaspoon instant coffee
    8 oz. nonfat milk
    1 teaspoon cocoa powder
    2 packets non calorie sweetner
    1/2 teaspoon brandy extract
    9 ice cubes
    
    Blend all ingredients together in blender for 40 seconds
    
    CHOCOLATE MAPLE FRAPPE
    1 heaping scoop Chocolate Royale Ultra Slim-Fast
    8 oz nonfat milk

    Blend all ingredients together in blender for 40 seconds.
    
    DOUBLE STRAWBERRY COOLER
    1 heaping scoop Strawberry Supreme Ultra Slim-Fast
    8 oz nonfat milk
    1/2 cup frozen strawberries
    7 ice cubes
    
    Blend all ingredients together for 40 seconds
    
    STRAWBERRY CREAM SODA

    6 oz. diet cream soda
    
    1.  Mix Slim-Fast milk and ice cubes in the blender on high for 40
    seconds.
    2.  Pour the cream soda in a tall glass, add the slim-fast mixture to
    the soda and stir.
    
    STRAWBERRY BLUEBERRY FREEZE
    1 heaping scoop Strawberry Supreme Ultra Slim-Fast
    8 oz nonfat milk
    1/2 cup frozen or fresh blueberries
    9 ice cubes
    1/2 teaspoon lime juice
